Let me begin this fanpost by saying I hate the Raiders as much as anyone else on this site. I may have to go on a shooting spree in Oakland if I hear one more Faider fan say they should have been in the playoffs instead of us because they swept the division...Ok, I'm exagerating.. I promise not to go on a shooting spree. BUT MY BLOOD PRESSURE WILL CONTINUE TO BE REAL HIGH. I truly feel they come across as the least educated football fans in the world. Usually the Broncos and Chargers fans have statistics to back up what they say, and they often can carry on an educated argument. That I respect, but the Faiders fans insisting they deserved the playoffs more than us because they swept the division is a crock of you know what...Shall we check what their record has been against the AFC West the last 5 years? BUT, that is not what this fanpost is about. It's about the Faiders ability to be linked to every free agent prospect every year, even though they consistently hover around the cap max..... DISCLAIMER: I promise to only concentrate on this year and to keep my summary very short so the fanpost is not 900 pages long
The Raiders are the red headed step child of the Patriots. The Patriots seem to be linked to high value free agents every year and are able to bring in immediate contributors without breaking the bank (enter Albert Haynsworth for a 5th). They do this by retaining high performing (often young) cheaper personnel to offset the infusion of free agent talent. The Faiders seem to keep the high priced youngsters around that can run 4.3 40's but couldn't make a
high schoolarena football team and try to bring in the Randy Moss' and Richard Seymour's of the world through bad trades and at a high price-Yes, I realize the patriots signed both Moss and Seymour, but for much different deals. Plus, the Patriots seem to get as much out of the talent as possible and then recycle them- The Raiders can't say the same. How are they staying in the free agency news this year??? .... I'll tell you. They are doing that by letting the majority of their in-house talent leave. Who in their right mind refuses to re-sign Nmadi, Zach Miller, Robert Gallery, Michael Huff and other key personnel so they can pursue personnel like IR Gaither, Dashon Goldson and Vince Young. They were hovering around 76 mil in cap numbers prior to free agency.. why would you pass on your in-house talent? I've already seen 18 FA's connected to the Silver and Black.. and I will say that I wouldn't give up Nmadi for all of them combined. The Chiefs on the other hand, have been loosely linked to 6-7 free agents as the front office seems to be tighter lipped than Michael Jackson after he turned clearish white.
The sheer volume of Raiders news on ESPN and SB Nation makes me want to scratch my eyes out... It appears the crypt keeper just wants to stay in the lime light for another few
hundred years until his immortality potion wears off.
Moral of the story: It's exciting to be a Raiders fan due to the sheer volume of news they are bombarded with during free agency, but it's good to be a Chiefs fan... "insert tomahawk chop"
