NFL Free Agency: Jason Babin Gets Five Year Deal With Eagles
While talking with Kevin Kietzmann on 810 WHB yesterday, neither of us could figure out why the Kansas City Chiefs would be showing interest in free agent DE Jason Babin. If you'll recall, Babin told the Tennessean yesterday that the Chiefs were one of the teams showing some interest in him.
Babin was previously in Kansas City and seems like more of a 4-3 guy. Where does he fit? I'd take Shaun Smith back before another defensive end.
It sounds like we won't have to worry about where he fits in Kansas City. According to Jay Glazer of FOXSports.com, Babin's returning to the Philadelphia Eagles on a five-year deal.
That wraps that. We've heard very few Chiefs free agency rumors relative to other teams so we can mark one of the few rumors out there off the list.

A 5-year contract for a one-trick pony.
Hey, if you want a speed rusher, Babin’s your guy. I don’t think he was ever on our radar. The idea even being brought up, that was just salesmanship, pure and simple.

hi, Mo! 5 minutes!!!
Speed? Hali?
Never heard those two put together before :)
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
Nice :)
Although, Hali brings more to the table than speed…bull rushes, good use of his hands, etc.
OT: I still expect to see us bring in a NT (besides Shaun Smith), of some kind, in the next 24-36 hrs. Pretend Franklin’s off the table. (Which he likely isn’t, but work with me here). Who Ya Got?
I vote for the backup with Pittsburgh, Chris Hoke.

offhand, I got nobody ...
thinking Franlin is indeed out anyway, who knows … never have gotten into the Free Agent guess where the wheel of fortune will land game, I like to see who we got when it’s all said and done and go from there
I said last night Smith maybe, but gotta get him back in the fold first, they may have someone else in mind already on roster for all we know (slide Dorsey over to NT and put the other new kid at DE)

Kelly Gregg
From Ravens. Everybody on NFL radio says he’s a stud.
If he's healthy he'd work out well--same weight as Edwards, two inches shorter...
More leverage. And he’s a master technician, which would be good for Powe.
He’d be like the Weigs of the D-line…
I just don’t see Baltimore letting him go permanently, though. I smell an under-the-table re-signing. That’s why I’m pro-Hoke; I think that’s one cat we could bag that fits our needs, is signable, and will sign for a Pioli contract (2-3 mil, 2-3 seasons).

Ain’t that what the Panthers gave Charles Johnson? haha

True dat.
But he’s at least CJ’syoung, and can/will still be coached to defend the run. Babin? Riiiiight.

That's a pretty good signing.
He’s actually a good fit for PHI
Would’ve been a terrible fit for what we’re doing.
Chiefs - back in the playoffs in 2011.
Yes.

yepper
Babin’s a good guy. Not a good fit for us, but this works for him & Philly. Wish him luck — good to know that the Chiefs helper resurrect his career, even when we sucked as mightily as we did a couple of years back…
Remember when Babin was our DE — who was our LB corps? Johnson, Rocky Boiman & Demo?
Oh, Rocky!
sounds about right on those three

I never believed for a moment he was coming here
But still… phew.

I don't think it was
Jason Babin to the Chiefs makes NO sense. We’re loaded on DEs run stuffers and pass rushers both.
With TJax, Dorsey, Bailey, Gilberry, Gabe Miller and camp fodder like Lucas Patterson and Dion Gales that’s 7 DE before we resign Shaun Smith.
I think it was either an agent trying to get leverage with the Eagles or the Chiefs trying to get leverage with Smith. Maybe both.
Miller is a LB btw

There is no thinking about it
He is a LB in a 3-4 which we run

We don't run a 4-3 anymore
So a lot of that doesn’t make sense.

Washburn is coordinating the Eagles Defense
So this makes way to much sense.

who knows
Interest to an agent is they called to see what he was asking so they could get a read on what another player is asking.

glad
glad they didn’t sign him…we don’t need another 4-3 DE
Babin didn't make a lot of sense
Especially now that Houston is on board. Sure, you can’t have too many passrushers, but he would have been an expensive part-time player.
