If S. Smith signs, NT is set

Can we really expect the Chiefs to have more than Shaun Smith and Jerrel Powe at NT? Given that they played with 6 D-linemen for much of the season, it seems unreasonable that they're adding 2 players through the draft (Bailey and Powe), resigning Smith, AND adding another D-lineman to man the middle.

interesting thought

Fescoe mentioned the same thing as a possibility

but, I still think they are looking for a veteran NT

That might be the plan

If that's the case

Then go spend the money on McClain and Breaston!

The only players I hurt with my words are the ones who have an inflated opinion of their ability. I can't worry about that.

i think that Kevin Gregg or Pat Williams will sign with the chiefs too give us the three NT with Powe and Shaun Smith.

I think our big free agent will come from the WR MLB and RT positions

the good thing about Pat Williams is that he just has to stand there and hug a couple of O-linemen, so his legs would be still fresh.

exactly Pat Williams will be huge and i think we would save money to get other targets

I think Pioli will sign the Deep Freeze, and Branch from AZ

Or maybe he waits to see which veterans get cut first, then makes a move. Or he could just be thinking that Powe and Smith can get the job done, and not do anything.

I'd love for Powe to step in and make a difference like that

But you’re counting on the production of two players that have yet to step on a NFL field. They aren’t going to avoid the possibility of signing Franklin because they signed Smith. The versatility of Smith is key and also an insurance for TJax. Not affecting their decision on Franklin.

I disagree

You have to account for injuries as well. If he learned anything from last year, it was when TJax went down, the whole d-line suffered because of it. Also we all love Shaun Smith, and I am a huge fan, but he can’t hold Franklin’s jock when it come to playing NT. Pioli’s job is to turn this team into a contender and not just re-sign players because they’re popular.

No offense...

But you have to be crazy to think that Romeo C would be totally fine & comfortable going into this season with the key position of his 3-4 defense being Shaun Smith. I’m sorry. But like Ram said

he can’t hold Franklin’s jock when it come to playing NT

If we go into this season with no answer at NT (and after losing Ron Edwards, I’ll consider this off season dissapointing. We would need to make some major splashes through other positions otherwise.

There is a fly in the ointment. The sh*t has hit the fan. The lion will speak.

Smith is a much better DE than he is NT anyway.

Powe and someone else have to be the basis of the 1st, 2nd, and short yardage snaps at NT. It’s not Shaun Smith or anyone else on the roster right now, IMO.
