Kansas City Chiefs GM Scott Pioli can't officially sign any players until Monday at 5:00 p.m. (Arrowhead time) but he can negotiate and agree to terms with players.
One such deal came through this afternoon, according to Aaron Wilson of Scout.com. C Casey Wiegmann agreed to a one-year contract with the Chiefs.
This makes sense. Wiegmann indicated he was a play-in-Kansas-City-or-don't-play-at-all situation so the Chiefs were the only team he was going to sign with. Wilson reports two other teams had calls in about Wiegmann.
After Wiegmann announced his intentions to continue players, I figured this would happen. The deal will officially go through on Friday evening when teams can consummate contracts. (Actually, no deals are truly official until the players ratify the CBA in the next few days.
Rodney Hudson, meet your new best friend.
