He Couldn't Stay Out Of The News That Long...

This doesn't have anything to do with the Kansas City Chiefs but it was too good to pass up.

From Bleeding Green Nation:

Last night, the rumors began to swirl that the Eagles have a small chance at bringing Brett Favre to Philadelphia to serve as a backup quarterback.

What?

From Michael Vick:

I would be honored to have Brett Farve as a backup. That will be amazing Learning how to toy with defenses the way he did his whole career.

Oh geez.

From Jay Glazer:

Let's end the uproar now, 2 Eagles sources tell me an emphatic No to Favre coming there to back up Michael Vick. Not the option they are on.

You knew he couldn't stay out of the news for that long.

Favre is a selfish lying asshole...

And the only way he will ever gain any favor from me is if he is never heard from again.

Independent thought is going against the grain, challenging the status quo

The status quo is quickly becoming disagreeing with the national media’s opinion. Try this for independent thinking: everyone’s opinion is there own, they don’t steal it from someone else, so just b/c someone’s personal opinion happens to coincide with the national media’s, most definitely does NOT make them “sheep” or “puppets”. Just b/c your opinion might disagree with what the national media is talking about doesn’t make you “progressive” or “forward thinking”, it just makes you opinionated like everyone else. Try thinking like that for some independent thoughts. It’s new and fresh

Yes, I'm his wife.

Learn how to make a valid point or, you know, say something at least half-intelligent and then get back to me.

Or just go get sucked into your TV and let the talking heads form your opinions and make your decisions for you. Sheep. Who needs ’em..

by bamachief5558 on Jul 24, 2011 3:31 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions   2 recs

Get off it.

You can choose your sources wisely and formulate your own opinions. What’s unintelligent is buying into sensationalist, inflated, offseason filler such as the ridiculously over-covered and over-scrutinized Favre stories. Every detail of his retirement decisions the past few years was picked apart and dramatized. Congrats on falling for it.

by bamachief5558 on Jul 24, 2011 6:19 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions   1 recs

More crap to feed the hogs with

If someone chooses to have the opinion that Favre is a liar b/c his telling media that he’s “definitely done” then playing, lazy and just wanted to waffle to get out of going to training camp, or whatever he is for sending wee-wee pics to a massage therapist, then that is their opinion, why does it have to be “buying” into anything? I bet you have an opinion about Big Ben, Tiger Woods and Mike Vick too from all the media coverage you listen too. Welcome to the pasture, sheep.

Bottom line: you CANNOT form an opinion about anyone without media coverage, unless you are in the circle with the person you have an opinion about, or you are a member of the media covering the person. And again, just b/c the opinion agrees with what the “mass media” is saying, and not what some underground, independent coffee shop newsletter is saying (which it sounds like that is where you are getting your info from), doesn’t make you “falling for it” or anything. It’s your opinion formulated from the media outlet that has the opinion that most reflects yours.

Thanks for the inspiration, Bajah!

Well Jenn Sterger is a reporter.

An actress/writer/model/television host, according to her official website. And I think it was pretty clear that she was trying to get attention, make money, and advance her career. Not saying that Favre, a married man, was not in the wrong. He was. OK, enough giving that woman more attemtion.

You don’t know me, man. Quit pretending you do. Yeah, we have a lot of pretentious coffee shop newsletters in small town Alabama (sarcasm, in case you missed it).

I do watch ESPN for sports news, as a matter of fact. I just don’t parrot every piece of sensational bullcrap I hear. I gather the facts and look at the whole picture before I feel that I can speak on something.

What you have to understand is that the various media are selling you a product. By getting wrapped up in the twists and spins and inflated repots, you are “buying in”. Favre can’t get on a plane during the offseason anymore without it being breaking news. As I recall, he mostly declined to even interact with the media during those offseasons. He wasn’t trying to get attention, as some people claim. The media did that for him because they had nothing meaningful to sell, and it appears that they are still at it.

If you would like to present your case for why you think Favre is the bad guy, let ‘er rip. If you just want to argue about how the media influences you, I think I’m done.

and this is Favres fault how?

A Philly sports hack started this while Favre is sitting at home in Mississippi. Ive never understood the hate for Favre. Here you have a guy who still actually has fun playing the game instead of just for money and some hack (not Joel the original Philly hack and ESPN) who knows the quickest ways to page views is to invoke his name and somehow its Favres fault

by slackator on Jul 24, 2011 1:31 PM CDT up reply actions

This is for you and bamachief

Not gonna accuse Farve of this episode quite yet until we hear more, but he is an asshole. He purposefully “retired” last year until he didn’t have to go through camp. If you are so old you can’t handle the daily grind, you need to retire. The other reason I don’t like him was his handling of his original retirement. He wanted out, the Packers made sure of this, and then made plans to go with Rodgers. Then Farve got all pissy when he changed his mind, and the Packers didn’t That is why he is hated.

He never retired, though.

It’s not like he “un-retired”. It was common knowledge that he had never filled out retirement papers.

The Packers eventually decided to move on without him, and honestly they made the right choice. They did what was best for the future of the organization. Feelings were hurt, I suppose, and it was an ugly situation, but the media took this story and ran with it. Like, ran away to Never Neverland with it.

And sorry, but if you’re 40 years old and having the kind of season Favre had, on a new team, without training camp, then I think you deserve a pass on offseason workouts.

I’m amazed at the way the media has been able to corrupt Favre’s image and make so many people turn on him. Brett Favre is an all-time great, and some indecision about leaving the thing he lives for doesn’t change that.

Here is a sidenote guys:

The media and people collectively get on band wagons all of the time. To be led or to be the leader.

Some people say crazy things just to get attention. Like my friend on Facebook who posted this gem to get some shock laughs.

Not necessarily my opinion, I am just making a point.

So Amy Winehouse quit drinking, good for her.

With Brett Favre it is no different, Favre wants attention, and other people that want attention too, use Favre as a vehicle to get it. Because they know that there are people out that there that crave the drama, and they also know that the people that don’t, will get all bent out of shape because people are making up stories to make drama. It is just true…

It doesn’t make the sheeple bad, or the ones that cry foul bad either. People are just different.

There is NO WAY..

And I mean NO way… that Brett Favre ever plays another down of professional football. Anyone who watched last season could tell you that. Blind idiots and senseless “haters” are the ones who fuel the “OMG COULD HE COME BACK AGAIN??!!!” talk. Actually, you could say the media fuels it. The idiots just perpetuate it.

This is a non-story. Favre is done. Take it to the bank.

by bamachief5558 on Jul 24, 2011 3:35 PM CDT via mobile reply actions

People supposedly hate him so much

but then they cant shut up about him.

Thing is if he wasnt an all time great and people actually wanting to see him play nobody would be treating him like this. Its the same as Michael Jordan even today people are asking him about a comeback but yet there are people like Testeverde who made more comebacks than Favre and held on longer then him and you dont see people bringing him up or trying to destroy his image, because he isnt all time great.

by slackator on Jul 24, 2011 4:00 PM CDT up reply actions

I just don't get it.

by bamachief5558 on Jul 24, 2011 4:18 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions   1 recs

Ill admit to being biased

outside of Chiefs players, Favre is my favorite athlete I ever watched simply because you could see he still loved playing for the fun and not the money. So maybe Im to close to the situation but Im like you I dont get it.

Now Ill throw this out there lets say the Chiefs are contenders mid season and Cassel goes down. Who would you rather have Favre or Stanzi? Me the choice is simple All time great vs. “The next Tom Brady” which Im not sold on that being the case.

by slackator on Jul 24, 2011 4:42 PM CDT up reply actions

Any other season for the past two decades I would have said, "bring on Favre!"

But after last season, I just think it’s over. It was painful watching him drag himself off the ground and back to the huddle every other play, and I think he finally just ran out of fuel. He’s 41 though, you gotta wrap it up sometime.

Aside from that I just don’t think he would come back. His last play, he was knocked unconscious against the bears. He’d never been knocked out in a game before. That was just the final nail in Favre’s retirement coffin, I think, though I don’t believe he would have retrned in ’11 no matter what.

by bamachief5558 on Jul 24, 2011 6:28 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions

ts the same as Michael Jordan

Now that’s just not true. GOAT vs. a guy who isn’t even the best ever at his position (or maybe even top 5).

I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

by MNchiefsfan on Jul 24, 2011 6:27 PM CDT up reply actions

not top 5?

Passing Yards: 1st
Completions 1st
Touchdowns: 1st
Rating: 86.0 20th
y/g 6th
comp% 17th
3 time MVP

How again is he not in the top 5 and I could even make a case that he is indeed GOAT but no doubt top 5

and my comparison to Jordan is that he “retired” multiple times and still despite being done the media and fans still hound them both about coming back

by slackator on Jul 24, 2011 6:59 PM CDT up reply actions

I get it now (the MJ comparison)

Favre broke most of those records due to longevity. Which is why he’s first in picks as well.

I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

by MNchiefsfan on Jul 24, 2011 8:18 PM CDT up reply actions

true but couldn't you also make the case his longevity

was because of his greatness? Testeverde really screws up all talks of longevity/greatness but I still stand by he is definitely top 5 and possible #1

by slackator on Jul 24, 2011 8:35 PM CDT up reply actions

I judge players based on greatness, so it's tough for me...

Would you take Favre at his peak over Marino, Montana, Manning, Brady… or even Young, Aikman, and Bledsoe?

I’m not sure. I know I forgot some, and I’d definitely take any of those first four over Favre…

I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

by MNchiefsfan on Jul 24, 2011 9:33 PM CDT up reply actions

lets see

Favre Vs. Marino: Push but lean slightly towards Favre IMO fun attitude vs ultimate blame WR for bad QB throw

Favre vs. Montana: Montana(the best ever in my opinion)

Favre Vs. Manning: Push again favoring Favre and this is probably like Marino I cant stand Mannings elitist never blame me attitude towards his teammates

Favre Vs Brady: Favre not even close in my book

Favre Vs Young: same as Brady, never was a fan of Young

Favre Vs. Aikman and Bledsoe: Bledsoe doesnt belong in the discussion in my opinion and was never a fan of Aikman but thats alot to do with living in OKC also known as North Dallas when Aikman played so I despise all things Cowboys

Again this is all my opinion with the names you listed and I would probably say Montana 1 Favre 2 or maybe even 1a and 1b

by slackator on Jul 24, 2011 9:53 PM CDT up reply actions

I hate Favre.

In the same way I hate classic statistics in Baseball for evaluation. Its all about “Watch the love of the game, how hard he tries” which is fucking horseshit. This isn’t a goddamn Kevin Costner movie, its sports. Brady and Young destroy Favre in efficiency and -douchebag stats, not to mention the misplaced spelling metric. Southern douchebags love this guy, I don’t get it. He’s no Montana. He’s no Young. He’s no Brady. He’s a tragic entry into the record books whereby an addict and sociopath would elicit less Good-Ol-Boy defense if he had a Boston accent.

by KeyboardGato on Jul 24, 2011 10:56 PM CDT up reply actions

And whats with this "Media attack Favre" angle

I mean there’s the groans and everything this comes up, but I don’t think there is a conspiracy to do such. Its him being an asshole like Green Bay his final year that invites this discussion. If he stayed longer like he wanted in the end, would they win the city a Lombardi Trophy? No. The reason him and Testeverde are different is not just accomplishment based but the amount of stress they put on a club. Vinny would never claim to retire, then want back thereby stalling the development of a future great, for the ego of the old great. Favre did that in Green Bay. Vinny did not do that once, he was a journeyman in the end of his career, not a primadonna.

by KeyboardGato on Jul 24, 2011 11:07 PM CDT up reply actions

so Favre is bringing this up

by keeping his mouth shut in Mississippi? No its the media who invokes his name because they know it pure profit for them. Blaming Favre for BSPN and some Hack in Philly for bringing this up is sorry if it offends someone but its completely retarded

by slackator on Jul 24, 2011 11:49 PM CDT up reply actions

and since you brought it up

Douchebag ratings: Brady and Young rate pretty high up there. I mean did you know Brady is married to a supermodel? The media never seems to shut up about that. Also one thing the media NEVER bring up ask Bridget Moynahan and her son how great a guy he is. As for Young I seem to remember him crying about sitting behind the best ever until he got his way so pretty douchey himself.

As for measurable stats:

Rating:
Brady- 95.2
Favre- 86
Young- 96.8

Yds/Attempt:
Brady- 7.4
Favre- 7.1
Young- 8.0

Comp%
Brady- 63.6
Favre- 62.0
Young- 64.3

sorry I couldnt find efficiency ratings so I went with what I thought were relevant stats and they all seem pretty comparable

by slackator on Jul 25, 2011 12:04 AM CDT up reply actions

So you hate him because others like him?

So then judge him by what he does on the field, and when he was good, he was one of the best and if you refuse you acknowledge it, you are just as bad as John Madden’s of the world who refuse to get past their pre-concieved notions.

OK you sucked me in...

Say you’re picking teams for 5 on 5 and you can take any player from all time. You’ve got the first pick. You’re not taking Jordan? I would for multiple reasons…

1) Best defensive 2-guard that ever lived. The game is played on both ends of the court, ya know.

2) Of all the great scoring guards ever MJ’s FG% stands out. You’ve got a better shot at 2 points with him than any other non-center ever.

3) No one was more clutch than MJ. This is not up for debate.

and finally, and most importantly, and what made him GOAT…

4) If you picked another player before him, he’d make it his MISSION to destroy your team, along with the player you picked first. And then he’d do it. Winning consumed him, but demolishing those who he felt wronged him was what he LIVED for.

If you’re not sure, watch game 1 against the Blazers in the ’92 finals. Then remember that Clyde the Glyde was a top 5 player that year. Before Jordan (as Simmons puts it) athletically sodomized him on national television.

If I was starting a 5-5 team, I'd pick Jordan 7th.

1. Kareem.
2. Magic
3. Bird
4. Bill Russel
5. Wilt
6. Oscar Robinson
7. Jordan

I’d argue Kobe should be higher than MJ who is a bigger killer than MJ ever was. Plus Jordan has to be downgraded for being kicked out of the league for 2 years for gambling on his games. Suuuuuure, he wanted to play baseball.

Did he really retire or did David Stern suspend him and instead of tarnishing a struggling NBA, force him to “retire” to save face?

I'm sure that coincided with his father getting killed

and him going to play baseball which was his fathers dream for him.

I like it too

Although it’s tough to ignore the impact his father dying would’ve had on him.

I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

Gotta love the media

There is an article on cbssports.com about how much the writer hates the attention Favre gets. Did he not realize while he was writing the article that he himself was giving him attention. And to be fair he is not the only writer out there doing the same thing.

I was once fired from a job two days after I waited on Matt Cassel and his wife Lauren Killian. Totally my AP moment to remember. Unfortunately also one of my stupidest moments.
