More useless stats that SOME people around here just don't appreciate! I, however, happen to enjoy them. - Today, Football Outsiders shares with us the highs and lows of the 'Broken Tackle' charts, "defined as one of two events: either the ballcarrier escapes from the grasp of the defender, or the defender is in good position for a tackle but the ballcarrier jukes him out of his shoes. If the ballcarrier sped by a slow defender who dived and missed, that didn't count as a broken tackle." Only broken tackles for standard plays were measured; volunteers didn't have the time to track them for all special teams plays. It's not so surprising, given B-Flow's prowess vs the run, that he shows up as one of the most efficient tacklers of the DB group. Also not surprising is B'Nuts himself Bernard Pollard showing up on the other end of that list, though not as high as I would have expected. Adrian Wilson vs Eric Berry: Darren Woodson in an nfl.com video rounded out his top 5 safeties with Wilson at #5, citing him as the most physical of the bunch (will drop the link to the source when I find it). I say Eric Berry MAY be slightly less physical with a better nose for the football. Berry's instant offense completely tips the sales, imo. What say you -- in light of these here stats, is Berry deserving of Woodson's top 5? (that's rhetorical -- of course he is!) Enjoy!
