Why I can't follow Chiefs players on Twitter...

After some period of stubborn resistance, I recently caved in and got a Twitter account.  Sad, lame, sell out...yes, these are all of the names I have been calling myself, but that is a story for another time.  So, in an attempt to be a good Chiefs Nation soldier, I decided to follow several Chiefs players such as Eric Berry, Rudy Niswanger, Brandon Carr, and Glenn Dorsey.

After two weeks of "following", I have realized a few things.  I am old.  And very white.  And possibly very Canadian, none of which are making me feel particularly good about myself (except for the Canadian thing...and only because our dollar is holding steady).

When we read or hear player interviews, I find it is so easy to forget that these are kids in their early twenties.  Not the case on Twitter however.  While I admire and respect each of their athletic achievements every Sunday from September to January, being bombarded by daily religious posts (Rudy Niswanger), and up to the minute (yeah, I'm lookin at you Eric Berry) updates of the lifestyles of the rich and horny, is only serving to diminish my level of respect for these gridiron gods.  TMI gentleman, TMI.  From one Twitter user (Twit?) to another, please understand that this is a medium for informing your followers of new...and here is the key word... RELEVANT information about you or your business.  It is not a vehicle to communicate on a per second basis with your posse...homies...peeps...or whatever you kids are calling your friends these days.  That's what text messages are for.  Just ask Tiger Woods and Brett Farve.

To close, I would just like to utter the 7 words that all people who have reached the tipping point of age have at one point said or thought...Honestly, what's wrong with kids these days.

This is a FanPost and does not necessarily reflect the views of Arrowhead Pride's writers or editors. It does reflect the views of this particular fan though, which is as important as the views of Arrowhead Pride writers or editors.

So basically

it took you two weeks to remember why you didn’t have an account in the first place?

Yes, but...

I think “College Educated” may be a bit of a misleading description of what life is probably like in school for these guys.

I'd rather deal with HS teens

Than a guy fresh out of college in many cases. With teens they often will concede to “adults” and allow for the possibility that they don’t know everything (well, maybe not OFTEN…)

With college grads, they believe they’ve arrived.

I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

Cheers

I’m with you, all that it would do is make me regret doing it. I’ve even quit FB for awhile, too much drama and things that I don’t need or want to hear about.

by Supersport on Jun 4, 2011 12:36 PM CDT up reply actions

Yeah

It’s kind of annoying with some of the weird stuff they post, but it seems like during the football season the tweets are a little more relevant. Plus you get a chance to actually say something to them and get tweeted back.

Who cares what the hell they tweet as long as they can play?

by JComp11 on Jun 3, 2011 1:22 PM CDT reply actions

Isn't that kind of what he's saying?

Except he’s adding that he doesn’t want it jammed in his face that they act like idiots.

sad, isn't it?

… that our football field heroes DO act like idiots all too often

I've had replies to my tweets from the following Chiefs -

Rudy N.
Eric B.
Shaun S.
Anthony T.
Brandon C.
Derrick J.

All were very respectable; I find that tweeting is a great way of connecting with them from time-to-time.

If you feel the ‘generation’ gap, etc.. Just un-follow whichever one for a while; I’m sure you won’t hurt their feelings.

GO Chiefs!

Don't worry, I am too old, white, and Canadian for twitter as well.

The views expressed by craig in calgary do not necessarily represent the views of all Canadians.

LMAO

Not exactly too white or Canadian for twitter, but definitely to relate to the posts of the the players.

Okay, which one of you too white guys was trying to tweet with Dorsey?

Glenn Dorsey @GlennDorsey72

?RT @speedofwhite: @GlennDorsey72 none of your tweets make sense to me #unfollow

by grid_iron on Jun 4, 2011 5:25 AM CDT reply actions

I too fell for the Twitter bait.

I have noticed that Dorsey is on Twitter almost coninuously, leading to me to ask him if he is, by chance, getting into shape for the possible upcoming season. No response, of course.

Don't forget these players are real people with real personalities...

I have a twitter account and I tweet whatever I want as well. If you don’t like what they tweet, you can just unfollow.
