Rodney Hudson Is My New Favorite Chief
Jon Baldwin. Justin Houston. Ricky Stanzi. The Chiefs have brought in some great new talent. I loved the Stanzi pick. However, none of them have claimed the top spot as my favorite pick. My favorite selection of the weekend? Rodney Hudson.
Why Hudson? Because offensive linemen do a lot of dirty work and they don't get recognized that often. Here are several reasons why I like the Husdon pick:
*He's an All-American. Pretty good company if you ask me.
*He's versatile. He's played at tackle, guard and center. He's probably going to be a center in the NFL but if Lilja or Waters went down with an injury, Hudson would be able to step in and help fill the void.
*Leadership is obviously important and Pioli loves leaders. Hudson was a team captain at Florida State.
*Holding penalties and false starts kill any momentum the offense makes. Hudson commits very few penalties (he had only one penalty throughout his entire senior year).
*His maturity level scored big points with me. His mother is a single parent and in high school he worked at a KFC in just so he could help out with bills. His mother didn't make him do it. He chose to get a job on his own. His willingness to take on responsibility like that speaks volumes about what kind of guy he is. Nowadays,
I'm hoping we can keep this guy in Kansas City for a very long time. Here's to you Rodney. You're my favorite new Chief.

Mine was Shane Bannon
Not because of talent, but because I like huge; nasty football players. At 6-foot-3 and 245 pounds, really hope he performs well during whatever type of preseason we have, and earns the starting fullback/halfback job from Mike Cox. Really want to see what this huge man can do when blocking the way for JC, and pounding it out down at the goalline.
Dear Scott Pioli,
Great job on the 2011 NFL Draft. Now please bring Shaun Smith back for 2011.
Honestly if he makes the team
I’m thinking about getting a Bannon Jersey.

Bannon is 6-2 265
Haley will want him to shed some lbs, if he’s gonna make the team as a FB and ST’s guy.

I agree
Hudson was my favorite pick of a lot of great picks.
We can still go pick up Aubrayo Franklin and Ryan Harris, throw Lance Moore in there and I'll start throwing the "S" word around.....not that one.
Com'n Baja...admit it, you and I both wanted a Marecic jersey : )

Not gonna lie
I’m going to keep tabs on him. I’m happy with the guys we got but he would have been nice.

I mocked Stanzi, and lobbied for him here on AP quite a bit.
And now…he’s here. Please don’t let me down Ricky, and if you do…you can just lose my number. lol.
"The 3-4 defense is what the Giants used to play. There was a nose tackle, two defensive ends lined up on the tackles, two outside linebackers and then two [inside linebackers], both covering the guards. One of those linebackers is a fourth rusher. That is the 3-4 — the only 3-4 defense." ~Charlie Weis
One thing that I noticed
This has probably been pointed out already, but many of our picks were Captains and Co-Captains of their teams.
*Holding penalties and false starts kill any momentum the offense makes. Hudson commits very few penalties (he had only one penalty throughout his entire senior year).
Correction – He only had one penalty in his college career
Ryan Succop will be the kicker for the AFC in the 2011 Pro Bowl
Uhh, not to be a Debby Downer, but....
He had four penalties in his career.
Still very impressive.

What I find fascinating is that many draft pundits and even fans
Are commenting on how we “went away” from taking high-character guys. Yet we still took multiple team captains and even a few boy scouts in this draft.
It’s as though they don’t realize that if you have a CORE of solid guys, you can have those “wild” types like potentially a Baldwin or Houston, because they’ll fall in line with the Berry’s, Hali’s, TJ’s, and Hudson’s of the team.
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
Incredible how that seems to be passed by ...
multiple team captains .I have heard as many as 6 of them were, is that true? Pioli scores again even if we don’t want to talk about it!

Correct sir...multiple Team Captains again.
Another theme of this years draft is versatility.
Another common theme is high upside value of pick’s when compared to where taken.
1. Main thing against Baldwin was “Diva” attitude.
2. Hudson will dominate and thrive in ZBS.
3a. Houston’s has 1st round talent if he has head screwed on right.
3b. Bailey has raw ability beyond wher he was taken and he hasn’t even learned some moves yet beyond a bull rush. Romeo just needs to transfer “Weight room warrior” attitude to the field. He has been cited by teammates for hard work off the field.
4. Jalil Brown may be gem of this draft due to his size and versatility, seen as able to play any DB position.
5a. Ricki Stanzi may be that Developmental QB we have craved. If nothing else, he may turn into a high draft pick down the road.
5b. Miller is a question mark with potential far beyond where he was rated. Pioli saw something in him.
6. Powe was a great value at #6. Just roll him into a spot on the D-Line rotation.
7. Bannon was another WTF. But the dude has potential at 265 lbs. He may be a starting H-Back with the #223rd pick in the draft.

it's just the media "gurus"
that don’t pay any real attention to the Chiefs and took the lazy view of our draft.
CHIEFS DYNASTY - we're kind of a big deal
Nice article and a rec
Hudson was the player that I wanted the Chiefs to take at pick #55. They had to get a Center candidate in this draft and Hudson was the best fit for the Chiefs.
He snapped the ball at both the Combine and at his Pro Day and made it clear that he’s willing to play Center. That’s why Pioli drafted him at #55. And a great pick at that.
The only word Chiefs fans need to know regarding the 2011 draft is BEEF ! ( 1 O-Lineman and 4 Defensive front 7 players & 1 big WR )
I'm excited for Baldwin, Bannon, Bailey, Stanzi, Houston, and Powe.
Not too sure about Brown or Miller. Not saying they aren’t going to be solid players…just don’t quite know what each brings to the table aside from special teams.
I eat nails for breakfast, tacks for snacks, and I sh*t nickel.
Yeah...I meant I was excited about those players in addition to Hudson. Sorry.

Brown was a solid pick
We spent a 4th round pick on a guy that can challenge to improve our DB depth. Players who could be upgraded to make the team better include Bates, Daniels, Price, Langsford, and McGraw. Washington has a lot of talent and potential but has had some horrendous games at S. Brown could push just about any of those guys for a roster spot and since he can back up both S and CB, we could potetnially open an additional roster spot by dumping another one of the aforementioned players.
Too small?
No doubt he was an excellent college player. I question how a sub-300 lb lineman can go up against the bigger dudes, especially at Center. He and Lilja make excellent pulling guards but we may still need a Center at some point.
In Todd We Trust!
perfect as a moving ZBS center
Team Pioli/Haley. Decade of the Chiefs.
