Pre draft, many spoke of NT as being the primary need on D. I was in disagreement and so I speculated that we needed to fix Vrable's spot first, the McGraw's, before finding a NT. Post draft and hind sight has shown that the team figured the same way. Or did they? It could be they just didn't want to draft the kid from Baylor, Phil Taylor. Regardless of my insights it appears, if the choices of Houston and Brown, we may have gotten 2 good players, hopefully starters.
I say appears and hopefully, as we haven't seen them in action just yet. However, with Pioli's magic in the last draft it is hard to not get to excited for these 2 players and how they fit into an up and coming defense. While I admire McGraw, he is just to slow to play well in the NFL anymore. Vrable is the same as McGraw, but is different in that his leadership and experience may overwhelm his physical limitations which the team may covet to influence these young LB's on the team. I am a huge fan of Coach Gibbs, our LB coach, and think Vrable's presence may not be needed as much as others do.
While I was happy to get Powe, I was not very excited by his abilities and think he may have already reached his potential in college. We will see, but again we have a Coach in Crennel who is very good at developing D-Line players so I have hopes he will be able to find a place in our lineup. Throw Torribio into the mix and it looks like we are getting some competition into that position finally.
I am so pleased to see a defense coming into being here in KC once again. Will these players be what we need them to be? All indications are a resounding YES! Time will tell and proof will be in the performance so it isn't prudent to be handing out awards for unknown and untested players just yet. But Hot Damn I am ready to see these guys play and play well making this defense one to be feared by other teams. Go Chiefs!!!!
