An Open Letter to Roger Goodell

Scott Fujita posted an email for Roger Goodell on his twitter which prompted me to write this. However it bounced back right away. So since this is the only writing I've done in several months I do no wish for it to go to waste.

Dear Mr. Goodell,

I am not quite sure I understand why this lockout is in place. I hear from both sides how everyone just wants football but instead now you are letting a bunch of lawyers who are greedier than both groups rake in the profits you are fighting over. In my opinion not reaching an agreement before the CBA expired should have cost both you and DeMaurice Smith your jobs. Why don't you take a look at the NHL or the MLB and see how work stoppages helped those sports. The UDFA and rookies are already losing out big time here. Everyone is officially behind the curve now. Every single team, all because their rookies can't all have play books or meet with coaches. There are hard working men and women who love this sport and don't collect huge salaries that are being laid off or having their pay cut because mediation won't work for two sides who want to "win" in court. News flash, no one is winning. Letting a court decide this just so the opposition can appeal is not a win. It's a loss. It's a loss of more time. It's a loss of resources that clubs should be providing their players and employees. It's a loss of interest by fans, you know the people who work to pay the money you can't decide how to spend.

I'm not saying owners should cave nor should the players but there is no reason we should be wasting valuable time that should be used in acclimating our rookies to their now team and letting coaches coach and players play. How does assigning rookies their numbers hurt your leverage? How is making sure practices are supervised and coached make it difficult for you to negotiate your side?

I want to see training camp and OTAs and a preseason. The talk of missing that stuff and how the season could not start at all is really pissing me off. I don't follow other sports much, I don't have a baseball team or basketball team. I may catch stuff here and there but I wouldn't make it a point to go to a game or buy a jersey for any sport other than the NFL and right now you are a huge part in me not being able to do that. So I am going to ask you please, get rid of the lawyers, get something done right now so fans like myself can go back to throwing money at the NFL.

Sincerely,

Jackie L. Virgo
