The Kansas City Chiefs best draft pick isn't the first rounder, the second or even the third, fourth or fifth round picks. If our approval polls mean anything, it may be their sixth round pick.
Ole Miss DT Jerrell Powe, who becomes the third Ole Miss player selected by the Chiefs in the last 12 months, received a whopping 95 percent approval rating. We didn't do approval ratings for every single pick (blame Chris) but I have to think this is the pick that would have received the highest approval rating.
Why is that? Why is this pick so popular?
Answer: value.
If 2011 NFL mock drafts mean anything -- and apparently they don't -- then this is terrific value for the Chiefs. Powe was graded out as a third or fourth round pick (even some second round talk in there) so getting him in the sixth is excellent.
That brings the next question: Why did he fall to the sixth round?
Maybe the mock drafts flat-out got it wrong. That's a possibility. I'm wondering how the early run on defensive linemen affected this, though. A record amount of defensive linemen went in the first round of the draft and that was arguably the deepest part of this draft so I'm thinking at least some teams had their fill of defensive linemen early and it caused the middle round guys, like Powe, to slip even further.
Time will tell if the sixth round was the right spot for Powe.
