While many, if not most, here at AP think that Hali is the best player on the team. I am not one of those folks. If you use simple math of what Pioli is doing in the last two drafts it would lead me to believe that he is thinking the same. I first suggested this last season after he drafted the kid from Troy, who spent the season on IR. This last draft produced a couple of other candidates to replace a guy who has had a career year in his contract year.
It seems that most expect Hali to repeat this performance at Arrowhead. He might and he might not. Is he worth the most money on the team? I don't think so. I think he is going to be gone, gone, gone come Free Agency and Pioli has drafted to compensate. Sure it is an unpopular opinion, however if you imagine yourself in the GM's shoes, do you really want to pay a player the highest salary on your team after 1 season of really good production? Or do you trade him off to your old pal who just happens to need, in the worst way a edge rusher and has many top draft choices in the next draft? For that matter several teams could come after Tamba.
Regardless of who would come after Hali, just look at history. Our very own ex edge rush pro bowler was sent off to the Vikings for several high draft picks. It worked out well for us, and it would again. In fact this type of trade would likely put us over the hump while freeing up cap space to sign guys we drafted from the Allen trade. Hali's greatest value, in my estimation, was helping overcome a very weak secondary by applying pressure on the opposing teams QB. Our secondary is now a strength and keeping it intact is more important. We could do well for the team by trading a player who may not be as good in this upcoming season.
In truth I know as much as the next fan about what Scotty Pioli is going to do and have added up his choices in the draft and drawn a conclusion which may not come to be. It wouldn't be the first time, but it could come true too. In truth I have not been a big fan of Hali's and this is why I am leaning towards this veiwpoint. I would rather resign Carr than Hali if it came down to being able to only sign one of these top free agents.
