Former Chief Alex Magee Picked Up

Sometimes one of the most important qualities about a GM is knowing when to let go. Chiefs GM Scott Pioli traded DE Alex Magee to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers less than two years after drafting him in the third round.

And it was good timing because Magee has now been arrested, according to Bay News 9 in Tampa.

Magee's full name - Arcilla Alexander Magee - was driving his 2009 Dodge Charger when he was stopped on East Kennedy Blvd. and North Nebraska Ave. at 1:13pm, the report says. The officer smelled marijuana and searched the vehicle. The investigation turned up a "misdemeanor amount of field test positive marijuana", according to the report.

No word yet on how this will affect his standing in the league. NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell says he will be upholding the personal conduct policy even while the lockout is in place which, frankly, is a little like having your cake and eating it too.

Also no word yet on whether Magee went down like former Chief Michael Merritt: "All this for a little bit of weed?"

The Chiefs have been laying low during the lockout but not Tampa Bay. There was CB Aqib Talib and and accusations he shot at someone. Then there was their scouting directing getting picked up for a DUI. The assistant to the head coach was also arrested for DUI as was a former assistant coach.

Well yes and no.

They have to try to keep things in line to a degree.

Otherwise if during a few months of league limbo, Peyton Manning decides to start publicly championing NAMBLA or snorting meth off of 14 year old hookers in Amsterdam on Ustream, it can do damage to the league / reputations / etc.

Since, allegedly, there’s supposed to be a measure of “good faith” (yes, lol @ that) assumed in this process that negotiations will pick back up, CBA will be reached and business will resume – it should be expected that players maintain their professional responsibilities – and not breaking the law should be one of them.

That said, it’s just a little herb – it’s harmless, unless he’s driving under the influence. But regardless, just like with Justin Houston, you now screwing around with drugs can potentially mess up your career in the NFL. So that’s just dumb decision making.

… a brand new $60 MILLION football stadium

that is not a typo

not a college, a HIGH SCHOOL! and yet people will claim that their school district is going broke and needs state and federal funding … now, I get that there are a lot of very wealthy people there, oil bazillionaires and they all love football and it’s their right to kick in a million here, a million there, maybe Jerry Jones kicked in, too … who knows

but wow … $60 Million for a HIGH SCHOOL football stadium? sheeeeeeesh

On those two points...

First of all, xome blowouts happen, but they’re at least real games with real implications, as opposed to their equivalents in the NFL (pre-season). Second, allowing a wildcard the chance to win a championship is a bigger joke than the BCS by a wide margin.

There are clear haves and have-nots in college football. The haves win virtually all of the time, and that makes college football very bland and boring to me most of the time.

"Innovation" is a farce in the context you're using it.

It’s more of “minimizing blatant personnel weaknesses and talent deficiencies”.

In the NFL you don’t run the option, because even second string DE’s and LB’s are superhuman mutants and QB’s can actually pass, eliminating the need to run to hide their lack of an arm.

Unless something is catastrophically wrong with a team, in the NFL you shouldn’t have personnel deficiencies and an absent of rounded talent.

Apparently you don't get sarcasam...

The Rose Bowl is a joke and may be the single worst stadium in the nation, pro or college. Place is an absolute shit hole. On top of that, maybe 40 people in LA care about UCLA football.

You can't live that American dream on foot, bro. Aint nobody riding horses no more.

When it has absolutely nothing to do with the NFL vs. NCAA...

…just like when you brought up Texas, Mack Brown, and Rick Barnes. You brought those up to troll, nothing else, which makes you what everyone thought you were.

witty response, I guess

I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

Tell me about these Cowboys and Steelers traditions

You mean the towel that goes back to just the 70s, or the Dallas franchise that goes back to just the 60s?

They just need to legalize pot and get it over with

It’s stupid when a big deal gets made out of an athlete with pot. It is NOT a performance enhancing drug by ANY means. And has an effect on the body comparable to a beer. It’s time for society to get out of the dark ages. We’ll get there eventually, we just need some more old people to die off first.

Ok, let's settle the NFL labor dispute with Roger Goodell and DeMaurice Smith in a one on one Oklahoma drill. First one to get a concussion loses.

by Randy5225 on May 10, 2011 8:43 AM CDT reply actions

exactly

Its not what you do that’s the problem, its what happens when you do it. No one cares if you have a beer on your off time. Showing up drunk to practice is a different story. Same goes for pot. Now we’re all concerned about Justin Houston’s character? Sad how reactionary society is.

amen

The first decree is to legalize marijuana.
The tyranny and the bullshit’s gone on too long.
You old fuckin’ shrivs who blocked it’s legalization,
you’re banished from the land!

See, kiddies. Let this be a lesson on how the "potential" psychological effects of toking the herb can affect your better judgement.

T-Jax: “Yo, dawg … listen up. The first thing you do after movin to Flo is … get those tags legal. The po po down there just love pullin a brother’s ass over for staring at the cracks in the sidewalk. Ya dig?”
Alex: “Ehh … yeah, man. Just chill for a moment, bro. I’ll do it … first thing. Mind if I smoke a J?”
T-Jax: “Nah, man … but don’t Bogart that shit!”

T-Jax calling Alex 4 months later:

T-Jax: “Yo, cuz … how’s it goin with the Bucs? You did get that Charger legal … didn’t you?”
Alex: Ehh …. man … don’t be doggin me bout that. Hey … the seasons over already … ain’t it? They got some killa … I mean killa bud down here. Hey, I got a vaporizer, dawg! We can be hangin and hot boxin that shit. Just you an me chillen like villians."
T-Jax: “Hey, man … listen up! Ya gotta get that ride legal … before they throw your black ass in county lock down. I’m being serious, dawg … are you hearin me!”
Alex: “Man … why do gotta be like that? I’ll get it done first thing tomorrow … okay! Ehh … fuck it … When are ya comin down to hang, bro? Dig this … they got the finest weed, and the finest hoes down here you’ve never seen! So when you comin?”

T-Jax texting 2 months later:

T-Jax: “Yo, Alex … You get that ride legal yet? You better of! I’m tellin ya, man … the police down there are lookin for any excuse to pull a brother over. They all think any black man driving a nice car has to be some Jamaican or Hatian drug dealer, or somethin. Its called racial profiling! Do you even remember what that means now?”
Alex: “Aww, man … not again? Why do you have to be like this? Dawg … fuck the police! I’ll do it … ehh … fuck it … I’ll get it done tomorrow … promise! Now, man … when are you comin to chill, brother? I’m feeling unloved!”

The moral of the story: Don’t put off what you should’ve done … yesterday!
