I just saw a post on Baldwin and his ability to help our offense. I was already writing this when I saw it and thought this will be a good compliment to his post, hopefully. I don't really post often and never have done a Fanpost but I thought you guys might enjoy some of the reading and a video I came across doing some of my own research.
I should start by saying that I have been a fan of Baldwin since the draft process started. Then we all heard about the 'character concerns' and Mayock had some very strong words about him. So like most, I figured we wouldn't touch him with a 100 foot pole...
Well we know how that ended, our Chiefs took him 26 (27th?) overall in the first round and I was shocked and excited at the same time. I have felt since being at the Ravens playoff game and seeing first hand a great defense eliminate every edge we had on offense. The whole time, like many, I was thinking we got to get help at WR. But even though we needed help, are we really willing to risk drafting the next TO.
So I dug a little deeper and found the comments before the Pitt game about his coaches and his QB. Baldwin blamed them for not getting more catches and not throwing it deep... Pretty much a diva attitude but then I started to think. I am 21-22 years old and my life is all about football but I want to get paid. It is the end of the year and I haven't gotten near the touches that I should have now that I have developed over the couple years and I KNOW and DESIRE to be the top WR in college. I have a first year starting QB and I am frustrated. I am losing MILLIONS of dollars by not being able to get the ball and I get asked a question...
How many of us wouldn't lose our cool and get frustrated and let out a rant?? Now I don't know if this was the only incident or not but from what I can find, it was the only thing. Then I found this video by NBC of an interview and I gained more from it than anything so far. It is only an interview and he is on his best behavior but he seems to be an alright guy. Has a good family, which he says is his most important thing in life and that he made a mistake. Also had another opportunity to play the 'blame game' and doesn't. Stress the importance of him taking pressure off his teammates, etc.
Anyways, make your own judgments and I know that Pioli and Haley dug DEEP on this and obviously found he was a fit for what we are doing here. (Right 53! lol) Hope you enjoyed this and as my first fanpost, I hope it isn't too long. (I am on this site constantly but never post, I like to just read people's opinions)
(CORRECTION: From RamX21 - Complained about too many deep balls and not getting intermediate passes, thus only being used to stretch the defense)
