Pioli's Big Board for #21

I, probably like most of you, have really been trying to figure out of who is going to be the pick at #21. I can't say I have it figured out, but I think I have it down to about 3 or 4 guys who have a chance of being picked at #21. I am going to list Mike Mayock's top 32 and go through the guys who have a chance of being picked and throw out the guys that have no chance.

1. Marcell Dareus*, DT, Alabama

2. Von Miller, OLB, Texas A&M

3. Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

4. A.J. Green*, WR, Georgia

5. Blaine Gabbert*, QB, Missouri

6. Robert Quinn*, DE, North Carolina

7. Julio Jones, WR, Alabama

8. Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn

9. Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska

10. Cameron Jordan, DE, California

11. Anthony Castonzo, OL, Boston College

12. J.J. Watt*, DE, Wisconsin

13. Tyron Smith*, OT, USC

14. Aldon Smith*, DE, Missouri

15. Da'Quan Bowers*, DE, Clemson

16. Cam Newton*, QB, Auburn

17. Mark Ingram*, RB, Alabama

18. Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue

19. Corey Liuget*, DT, Illinois

20. Gabe Carimi, OL, Wisconsin

21. Mike Pouncey, OL, Florida

22. Nate Solder, OL, Colorado

23. Jimmy Smith*, DB, Colorado

24. Marvin Austin*, DT, North Carolina

25. Jake Locker, QB, Washington

26. Muhammad Wilkerson*, DT, Temple

27. Cam Heyward, DT, Ohio State

28. Akeem Ayers*, OLB, UCLA

29. Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa

30. Phil Taylor, DL, Baylor

31.Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi St

32. Kyle Rudolph*, TE, Notre Dame

First of all, eliminate the top 14 prospects. One of them could slip, but it is very unlikely they would slip all the way to 21. I know 7 slots doesn't sound like a lot, but with the Patriots and Giants probably going BPA and are picking right in front of us, hard to imagine of them slipping. I could see one of the 3-4 DE slipping to us, but we wouldn't draft him so it wouldn't matter that he slipped to us.

Next I will eliminate the guys that are either 4-3 guys or are power blocking lineman and guys who play positions we are solid at. That leaves us

18. Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue

21. Mike Pouncey, OL, Florida

22. Nate Solder, OL, Colorado

28. Akeem Ayers*, OLB, UCLA

30. Phil Taylor, DL, Baylor

31.Derek Sherrod, OT, Mississippi St

The next guy I am going to eliminate is Nate Soldier. He is far too weak to play RT. I think he could be a descent LT, but I can't imagine them moving Brandon Albert. The last guy I am going to eliminate is Derek Sherrod. Good player, but I don't think the value is there at 21. I know a lot of people are going to be calling for Stefen Wisniewski, Leonard Hankerson, or Brooks Reed, but those guys simply don't have the value of being picked at 21, which is important to Scott. People always say Tyson Jackson was a HUGE reach, but in fact he was going to be picked in the top 12 if the Chiefs did not pick him. So not as big of a reach as a lot of people think.

So there you have Chiefs' fans. One of these 4 guys is going to be on our team next year(barring we trade down).  I am leaning towards Phil Taylor being the pick, but these other 3 are right there.

18. Ryan Kerrigan, DE, Purdue

21. Mike Pouncey, OL, Florida

28. Akeem Ayers*, OLB, UCLA

30. Phil Taylor, DL, Baylor
