Well, ever since Amukamara was reportedly coming to visit I've wondered why. He isn't supposed to make it out of the top 10 let alone to 21. Is Pioli willing to trade up for him if he slips a little? That doesn't sound very Pioli like. Trading up to get a player playing a position that is, imo, our 2nd best position on the team. In the first round no less. Well I think I may have come up with a crazy scenario to explain this.
Now this maybe a very out landish idea and a few things would have to take place for this to happen. Some of those things maybe be really easy and some maybe very hard, but one things for sure, if Pioli believes it's the right move and it's possible he'll make it happen. Please bear with me on this.
The first thing is that the CBA would have to get done before the draft. This is the most unlikely of all the things that would have to happen, but it's possible that after the first court date that is supposed to be tommorow that they could revert to the old CBA until a new one can be agreed upon which would sufice.
The second would be a team interested in Brandon Flowers. This should be an easy one. The hard part of this would be a team willing to give what is needed to make the deal worth it. Is there a team out there willing to give a 1st and 3rd/2nd for him? If there is, where does their current pick sit? Are we talking maybe the lions sitting at 13
or the Pats sitting at 28 or whoever it may be.
The 3rd thing how far does Amukamara fall? Does Pioli think he is a sure fire guy? Will he fall far enough for Pioli to trade to where ever he is to get him?
The 4th thing is does Pioli think Brandon Carr can be our number one CB? He shut down Brandon Llyod last year who at the time was considered a top 5 WR in the league, so he at least has the potential.
So I'm sure at least most of you have figured out where I'm going with this. Pioli is using the philosophy of building around a few core guys with replacable parts surrounding them. Is Brandon Flowers a core part or a replacable part? If he's replaceable then this could be a scenario we see. For example, on draft day Amukamara (assuming Pioli believes will be a very solid CB) falls to 13, we trade Flowers to the Lions for their 1st and 2nd and we draft Amukamara. Then move Carr to number one and start Amukamara from day one at number 2. What could this team do with that extra 2nd? A C? A WR? Maybe we take Pouncey with the first and possibly Taylor falls to our 2a. Then take Hankerson with 2b. That would be looking like a very nice draft. Imagine if we had picks 13/21/44/53 to use. I know I don't like the idea of trading Flowers, but in Pioli I trust. Just some food for thought.
