2 Days In...

2 days in, Scott Pioli has drafted 4 players to improve the Kansas City Chiefs. So far we have gotten great value for our picks and three of them have come from big positions of need. Most Chief fans are very satisfied with the draft so far, some aren't so much. After the jump I'll speculate on how these players skill set can translate to the improvement of the Kansas City Chiefs.

Jonathan Baldwin:

Call me a homer, but this guy really was the third best wide out in the draft. We could have pulled an Atlanta and given all our picks for the next two years for A.J. Green or Julio Jones. Mr. Pioli decided to instead trade back, get another draft pick, and then take Jonathan Baldwin. I truly believe this wideout has a chance to be a perennial pro bowler in the NFL. As many of you know, he has been training with 2 of the last 3 1st round picks out of Pitt. Being in Larry Fitzgerald's presence just seems to improve wideouts and learning how to beat Darelle Revis, well, that's not a bad start. This guy complements Dwayne Bowe perfectly and I think has a fair chance at taking his place at the #1 in around 3 seasons. Not to mention Todd Haley has a pretty good track record coaching talented receivers. I give this pick a B+ with the potential of an A+

Here's a pick that made sense! Quite a few people were calling for this pick five or ten minutes before we made it. It makes sense, he is a team captain after all. The man has great character, which is rare in NFL lineman. He fell further than most thought and Pioli found good value in this pick. We won't have to worry about Wiegmann's retirement probably after next season. Although his measurables and combine numbers aren't great, but he is a great blocker on game day, and a reliable center for the future of the Chiefs. I give this pick an A+ with the potential of an A+++

Justin Houston:

This pick is the definition of value. I valued him as an early second round pick and I was positive at the end of the second round there was something I didn't know. I've done some research and this guy is the same football player as he was last week. Josh Looney was right, the Chiefs picked Justin Houston. However, it was at pick #70, not #21. That's a substantial difference! I've heard people question his work ethic and his motor, but those are the least of my concerns in a Kansas City Chief. I believe if Pioli and Haley draft a player, they truly know that off the field issues and work ethic is not an issue. This guy has the potential to start opposite Tamba Hali and my only area of concern with him is his ability to defend the pass. This was the best player available for a position of need. The only problem is his off the field issues, which Pioli believes is a risk. I give this pick an A- with the potential of an A

Here's the pick that has everyone talking. The second the Chiefs announced this guy as their pick I said "who??". I consider myself pretty educated on the draft and draft prospects, and I had no knowledge on this guy. After about one minute of research I figured out why I have never considered him to the Chiefs. Everyone views him as a 4-3 DT or DE. I first thought that Pioli had gone overboard on the "Best player available" technique. Now I realize that this guy is going to be the Dexter McCluster of the defense. Watch his combine he's very explosive, he's also insanely strong. He's not a polished gem, no bottom 3rd round player is. I have no idea what Scott Pioli and the team has in mind for this guy, and yes I would have rather had a NT. I can speculate all I want if they are going to try to transfer him to OLB or if they are admitting that Tyson Jackson is a bust with this pick. Instead I'll be honest, I'm clueless on this one. We'll have to wait until training camp to see what this guy's all about. I give this pick a C with the potential of an A.

Overall, Scott Pioli has killed this draft so far. Just be glad you're not a Charger or Raider fan, who are making sub-par picks. Who would have guessed Al Davis would have taken the draft's fastest player (sarcasm font)?! Thanks for reading my first fan post! Go Chiefs! Rec for a nose tackle early tomorrow!
