Arrowhead Pride has teamed up with Bud Light (Give 'em a Like on Facebook here) to count down the Kansas City Chiefs greatest NFL draft successes and failures. We're almost through the successes as we come to No. 3 today...
So far in our countdown, we've had two players from the what you could call the first era of the Kansas City Chiefs franchise - the 1960s and early 1970s. Willie Lanier and Buck Buchanan are on the list because frankly they're two of the greatest players to ever play their position.
Bobby Bell makes this list for the same reason. He was simply put one of the greatest linebackers in Pro Football history.
Bell was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in the 1963 NFL Draft in addition to being drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the 1963 AFL Draft. Back, then Bell was the 56th overall pick, which put him in the 7th round. Naturally, there were fewer teams back then and subsequently fewer players picked in each round but it's still nice to think that Bobby Bell was a "late round" pick that turned out to be a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. It makes his story that much better.
Bobby Bell played 12 seasons for the Kansas City Chiefs. His awards and accolades are almost too many to list:
- Member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame;
- Member of the College Football Hall of Fame;
- His jersey #78 has been retired by the Chiefs;
- AFL All-Time Team member;
- Member of the NFL's All Decade Team (1970s)
Bobby Bell is yet another example of the Kansas City Chiefs' smashing NFL draft success in years past.
Is he ranked about right on this list in your opinion?
- No. 10 - Kevin Ross
- No. 9 - Neil Smith
- No. 8 - Brandon Carr
- No. 7 - Willie Lanier
- No. 6 - Buck Buchanan
- No. 5 - Jared Allen
- No. 4. - Will Shields
