Why isn't Curley Culp in the HOF?
Since were talking draft and looking for a NT in our latest incarnation of a 3-4 defense, I had to wonder why Culp is not in the HOF?
Probably the biggest personnel mistake by the Broncos who drafted him #31 in the 1968 draft while they were in the midst of 13 straight losing seasons (and the worst in the AFL) to open their franchise, Culp never played a down in Denver, instead coming to KC (not sure if he was traded or cut) and by 1969 was a starter on a SB champion. He was all-pro in 1969, 1971, 1975, 1977 and 1978. Sadly he was traded out of KC in a deal worse than the Jared Allen trade, the Chiefs plummeted while Culp became the en vogue NT of 3-4 defense in the 70's. Had it not been for the Steelers dynasty (and Dan Pastorini) of surley Culp would have had another ring.
Good question now with the "Senior Committee" for the HOF why isn't Culp considered?

and had it not been for the Miami Dolphins and a certain Longest Game Ever Played ...
pretty much everyone on the Chiefs that year felt that it was their best team of the era, even better than the Super Bowl Champion ’69 team
yeah, Culp was one helluva player

He gets my vote. I think it has to do with so many Chiefs from that team are already
in the HOF and the folks voting got a little reluctant to vote some others like Curly or Johnny Robinson.
