Forgive me if this is something that has already been posted about hundreds of times on here, but its a busy time of year for me and I haven't had the chance to keep up on all my fan post readings. I won't waste anytime talking about Pioli's history or trading back while in New England, but get right to my point. I think the key for us to be able to move back in this draft will center around the run on quarterbacks, if and when it happens. What teams will get too anxious to wait for the 2nd tier of Qbs (Locker, Mallet, Ponder, Dalton) to fall to the the beginning of round two, or get past Seattle? I think one team will get anxious, and looking at the draft trade value chart, I think there is more than one team that could be a potential trade suitor with KC.
Our 21st pick is worth 800 points on the chart, so looking at QB hungry teams at the beginning of the 2nd round that could pass or miss out on Newton and Gabbert, both Cincinnati and Buffalo have the ammunition to trade for our pick and offer the value KC could be looking for in a trade. A package of Cincy's 35th and 65th pick would equal a value of 810 points, while a value of Buffalo's 34th and 68th pick would also equal 810 points. Swapping late rounders this year, or including a late rounder next year could easily even out the point values, if thats necessary.
For me, if we have picks (34 or 35), 55, (65 or 68), and 86, it gives us the chance to address our needs at four key positions:
NT -Maybe Taylor falls to the 34-35 range, but mostly likely not so we would be looking at Powe or Ellis with a 3rd round pick
OLB- Again maybe Ayers falls to 34-35 range, but possibly Brooks Reed, Justin Houston, or Bruce Carter in the 2nd or Christopher Carter in the 3rd.
OL- A RT or G/C prospective such as Marcus Cannon, James Carpenter, Rodney Hudson, or Orlando Franklin could all be options with the 55th pick or either 3rd round pick
WR- Titus Young, Randall Cobb, Leonard Hankerson, Greg Little, and the list goes on at WR.
So in the end, KC would be looking at a stable of four solid picks in the first three rounds, all of which could be players who would help fill immediate needs in KC. My question is, if KC were to make a move like this, how would this change everyone's draft strategies and predictions?I'll leave it to others to fill in exactly whats players we would take at each pick for your ideal scenarios.
Again sorry if this is a repeat of past discussion, but the draft is less than two weeks away and I can't wait!
