If the CBA is worked out in time for free agency before the draft here are some ideas I have......
I would resign Edwards, Carr, and Smith. I would NOT sign another NT because I would be drafting one especially if I could land a few FAs. I would sign Malcolm Floyd to play opposite Bowe. I would also sign Nnamdi to a 2 year deal to come in and help Carr Flowers and Arenas develop even more. With him I also think that would help eliminate the immediate need for a SOLB. Simply because with that kind of money in CBs I would run a lot of nickel packages. I'm not Crennel so I don't know exactly how it all would go down, but I think Crennel could do some crazy stuff with the D we have now + Nnamdi.
Things like Flowers, Carr, and Asomugha in man with Berry in center field over the top. That would shutdown any team I can think of. Who has a set of receivers that could get open with that coverage? Or maybe Asomugha and Carr in man with Flowers as a spy and Berry again over the top. It would be as scary a secondary as I've ever seen or heard of. Plus Flowers is already a dominate corner, but as young as he is I'm sure he could learn a lot from Nnamdi, not to mention what he could do for Carr or Arenas. I look at an Asomugha signing as more then just a BA player it's an investment in our future at CB.
Personally I think that would make our secondary the best in the league. With solid in house development from guys like Berry, Arenas, Lewis, Belcher, TJax, and Studie our front 7 would be average or better, and that would make our D well above average. If we got just a guy who rotate well at NT in the draft, maybe Muhammed Wilkerson, Phil Taylor, Stephen Paea, Jerrell Powe, or even Chris Neild in the 4th or 5th. That would make for a very scary defense. I have yet to even mention what kind of impact that the improved secondary would have on Hali and the pass rush. How many coverage sacks do you think Hali would get? 2? 3? 5? 10?!?!?
Then I believe personally that Charles can run against any D that is playing honest. Having Malcolm Floyd, Bowe, Moeaki, and McCluster/Tucker/Rookie running routes I think Ds would have to stay honest, leaving Charles free reign to blast 6 ypc again this year. Making us again the best run offense in the league, especially since I would probably draft someone like Ryan Williams from Virgina Tech to split carries with Jones towards the end of the season, and eventually taking his place. Then on top of what the passing game would be like.
Cassel was looking better and better as the season progressed. With Jim Zorn as the QB coach I believe that progression will continue, and Cassel will be "worthy" of a Pro Bowl appearance. If you give him another big solid target in Malcolm Floyd, I think his numbers would blow last years away. I would also probably draft another WR in the later rounds, someone like Tandon Doss, Greg Little, Austin Pettis, or Tori Gurley.
I think we would be 10 on both sides of the ball. Everything we had last year + a whole lot more. With that offense and defense I think the Chiefs would have a serious shot at not only winning the division, but making a deep playoff run and possibly a Lombardi Trophy. What do you think? What would you do?
