As noted in Arrowheadlines this morning the Kansas City Chiefs will visit with North Carolina LB Quan Sturdivant on Wednesday. National Football Post reports the Chiefs are among several teams showing interest in him in addition to the Washington Redskins, Atlanta Falcons, Minnesota Vikings, Tampa Bay Buccaneers and the Buffalo Bills.
He did positional drills at UNC's pro day last month but stood on his numbers from the Combine. He weighed in at 6'0" and 241 pounds. Here's a snippet on Sturdivant (via NFL Draft Scout), who is considered one of the top inside linebackers in the draft:
A star high school quarterback and safety coming out of Oakboro, N.C., Sturdivant chose jersey No. 52 when he moved to linebacker for the Tar Heels in honor of his favorite players -- former Hurricanes Ray Lewis and Jon Beason. He sports a tattoo that says, "Only the strong survive" and plays linebacker with that mindset. Sturdivant is a tackling machine who attacks the line of scrimmage with speed and great instincts. He moved inside as a junior, where his limitations tackling in the open field and sticking with tight ends in coverage can be masked better.
He lost five games to a hamstring injury in 2010 so the Chiefs could be checking him out medically as well. UNC's 2010 season was forgetful because of all the suspensions so maybe the Chiefs are hoping Sturdivant falls as a result of that.
He's expected to be a second or third round pick.
