We assumed every team in the NFL attended the Auburn pro day because, well, it's the Cam Newton show and now we find out that, indeed, representatives of the Kansas City Chiefs were on-hand as Newton and other Auburn players worked out for NFL teams at Auburn's pro day on Tuesday.
We're not sure if the Chiefs had any specific players in mind but the agent for Auburn C Ryan Pugh tweeted: "Ryan Pugh seen in [the] company of Colts, Chiefs and Patriots at Auburn Pro Day."
Pugh is a 307-pound offensive line prospect that can play a variety of positions including center, guard and offensive tackle. Versatility seems to be a common theme with some Chiefs picks so he fits the bill in that regard. The Carolina Panthers have a visit set up with him in the next few weeks.
As a center, that means Pugh was snapping to Newton during the workouts so there's plenty of video on him considering the pro day was streamed live on the internet.
Pugh has some nice credentials as a third-team AP All-American, Rimington award finalist and first-team all-SEC.
The topic of drafting a center is an interesting topic around here because we really have no idea what the Chiefs center situation is. Starter Casey Wiegmann could retire. Backup Rudy Niswanger could be let go in free agency depending on how the rules in the CBA are worked out. Of course, if Wiegmann does stick around, then the Chiefs have their starter for 2011 and center isn't such a dire need.
