Chiefs S Reshard Langford Reportedly Gets Tendered
The Kansas City Chiefs aren't announcing the status of their restricted players but we're whittling down the list of players via various media reports. The latest one is S Reshard Langford, who did receive a tender, Bob Gretz of BobGretz.com reports (FYI: That Bob Gretz link has some good stuff on the Chiefs scouts).
The period of making any transactions is over until a new labor deal is complete so these are moves the Chiefs apparently made before the deadline and the news is just now getting out.
Langford came into the league in 2009, which means he has two or less years of experience making him an exclusive rights free agents. Those players have no negotiating rights so his choices are to sign the Chiefs contract offer or don't sign and don't play.
So, as some have said, exclusive rights free agents are only free in the sense they're free to quit football.
Here's an update, via various media reports (mostly from Adam Teicher of the KC Star), on where we stand with all the players that were restricted in some fashion entering the offseason:
Franchise tag; LB Tamba Hali
Restricted/exclusive rights free agents tendered: CB Brandon Carr (1st), OT Barry Richardson (2nd), DE Wallace Gilberry (2nd) and Langford (ERFA).
Restricted free agents not tendered: FB Tim Castille, OT Ryan O'Callaghan, CB Maurice Leggett and RB Jackie Battle.
Signed: LB Cory Greenwood
We don't know: TE Leonard Pope, C Rudy Niswanger, QB Brodie Croyle, TE Brad Cottam, FB Mike Cox and LB Corey Mays.

Brodie Croyle
The situation seems strange. I don’t really care if he’s a Chief next year or not, but I’d like to think some team would give us something for him. Teams like Carolina and Minnesota seem pretty weak at the QB position.

I did think of that...
“were weak at the QB position…we could pick up Croyle…and we’d STILL be weak at the QB position.”

We need to address that this offseason as well...
Even if we resign Brodie we shouldn’t be satisfied.
Cornstar!
Rock out with your stalk out!
yeah have to say I think we need a young QB behind cassel, and if we carry 3, then croyle fits as the clipboard guy
Team Pioli/Haley. Decade of the Chiefs.
Team Colquitt
or Croyle should "resign"
Not re-sign
Prediction: KC will not draft a LB before the 3rd round

Depth is so important for our secondary right now... the cupboard is pretty bare.

Agreed
glad we’re locking up depth at the Safety position.

We NEED some decent depth. I'm willing to bet we pick up at least 2 DBs in the draft.
And please Pioli, none of this late round project stuff… Last time I checked Donald Washington was still on the roster.

yeah, langford and washington are not what i'd call good depth
Price, Bates either
I would be willing to wait for Washington to develop, and Daniels is OK… but I would draft 2 DB

I'm beginning to see Chiefs needs > Draft picks
We need free agency so Scott can work his magic.

The way I look at it is....
For so long we needed good players and good players to develope (DJ) now we have several of those players but that’s not enough. Our next process is completeing that talent throughout the roster to make up for injuries, rotation, etc….
You’re right Willie, we NEED free agency. Not for the bling bling players, although some of those would be nice, but or the quality depth and ST guys that take a good team to elite status.
Cornstar!
Rock out with your stalk out!
I'm not looking for bling bling
I’m looking for value. A guy that gives us depth and gives 100% on the field when he’s in the rotation. If he wants to grab pee pee’s, well that just adds to the entertainment value.

I thought Bates was playing pretty well until he got hurt.
I think he also probably has a higher ceiling than Daniels, at this point. No matter what that ceiling might be.
Yes! He and D-wash are in the plans and I see both on the 53...we will see....
definitely a fan of langford’s special teams play….our ST units fell off a cliff once he went on the injured list
Team Pioli/Haley. Decade of the Chiefs.
Team Colquitt
interesting
Hope you’re right
That would make 1 less need!

I think we should resign Cox
All the rest of them can walk and it doesn’t bother me. If we sign Croyle I’ll starting screaming for God. I can’t look at him for one more game.
We're the same team as last year, except incredibly better, and with new players.
This ALMOST makes me want Cassel to get hurt for a game and Croyle to step in and play well..
Just so people will shut up and stop bitching about him. The hatred for him that you ridiculous people harbor is so blind.
