Maurice Leggett Tweets He's No Longer A Chief
Kansas City Chiefs CB Maurice Leggett sent out a few messages via Twitter indicating that he is no longer a Chief.
All good things must come to an end. Please show the same love to my friends....
Another user tweeted at him: "You're still a Chief, right?" His response: "no".
A disappointing day fore. A bigger chip is on my shoulder. Still will play in the pro bowl
The Chiefs aren't confirming, denying or announcing any of the news regarding player movement this week so keep that in mind. Also, we're not sure if the Chiefs have released him, or if he was simply not offered a tender. (Editor's note: To clarify, with the league year ending, not offering him a tender is effectively releasing him since his contract was expiring as a restricted free agent.)
Leggett was an undrafted free agent and the Chiefs 2008 rookie of the year. He ended the 2010 season on injured reserve after suffering a head injury in a preseason game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Assuming Leggett's information is accurate, here are the restricted players we're waiting to hear news on: TE Leonard Pope, C Rudy Niswanger, QB Brodie Croyle, TE Brad Cottam, FB Mike Cox, S Reshard Langford and LB Corey Mays.
[FYI: Is this his Twitter account? Yes. He has done live UStream videos from it, tweeted pictures of himself, interacted with other Chiefs via Twitter and the page is connected to his official website.]

well, that's too bad for him
unfortunately, he was a 1 year wonder here.
I look for DB to be addressed in the draft, maybe twice
Prediction: KC will not draft a LB before the 3rd round
Really?
I figured CB was the only position to not address in the draft.

absolutely
I wouldn’t address DE, K, P, LS, maybe RB… other than that, need depth everywhere

I think, after letting Battle go, running back is definitely addressed in the draft
Leaves us with only two runningbacks on the roster (Charles and Jones), and only one FB if Cox gets tendered.
Then again we have quite a few DBs on the roster, and I could see us addressing it in maybe a later round, but I think we’d be okay with the ones we ran with this season….
I think it sounds like Dex will be the 3rd RB next year
Ok, let's settle the NFL labor dispute with Roger Goodell and DeMaurice Smith in a one on one Oklahoma drill. First one to get a concussion loses.
I don't think they're giving up on him as a slot reciever just yet
He showed flashes of potential. It took a few weeks for our passing offense to get going, and then he got hurt, didn’t have chemistry with Cassel, etc.
Remember last summer when he was the star of all the training camps?

i am sure they aren't giving up on the Dex at all
But, I would rather see more of him out of the backfield as Haley mentioned, and I would draft a slot WR (Cobb)

Fair point
Do you think we retain him? I’ve never been a fan. I want Bradford >:(

Good question.
I think it could go either way. I’m leaning towards no, but it’s probably close to 50-50, depending on what other moves they make.
Resign ≠ Re-sign
You don't clarify
whether Legget’s contract has expired or not

Though he was eligible for restricted free agency
Meaning he could have been offered a tender. Same situation as O’Callaghan/Battle/Castille, who were not offered tenders.
Sounds like they flat out told him he wasn't wanted back.
I really doubt if he’d have reacted that way, simply for not yet being offered a contract. Then again, he’s not the sharpest knife in the drawer.
Resign ≠ Re-sign
All this twittering, tweeting,
and twatting makes me dizzy.

He would have been our nickleback had he stayed healthy
It’s too bad an injury has to end a players career on a team. I liked MoLeggs.

Not so sure about that
He was probably going to be used as a fourth corner, I couldn’t imagine him beating Arenas out for the starting nickel position. I liked MoLegg a lot too, but a lot of his turnovers and everything came to him, not the other way around.
yeah I agree...but I do have to wonder how he would have done if healthy last season....there was a nice spot to be filled

His agent should try and get him off of Twitter.
I’m sure Pioli saw the same unmotivated idiot I saw. In fact, I had to stop following him, because I couldn’t take it anymore. Not saying that’s the reason he was (apparently) let go, but it couldn’t have helped. He comes across as a lazy moron, and very difficult to root for.
Resign ≠ Re-sign
Well, some of it.
But yeah, he makes Shaun Smith look like a Rhodes Scholar on there.
Resign ≠ Re-sign
that's hard to do, too!

KANSAS CITY CHIEFS 2011-2012 SUPERBOWL CHAMPIONS!
I wonder if he ever even rehabbed with the team.
You wouldn’t think so, from following him on Twitter. In fact, he didn’t even really seem all that interested in the Chiefs during the season. That could explain them not even wanting him back in camp. He’s young and talented enough, that you’d think they’d at least one to give him another shot, if there weren’t other factors involved.
Resign ≠ Re-sign
He seemed more interested in rap from what I could gather.
Providing COLOR commentary for Arrowhead Pride!
yeah he didn’t talk too much about the team. i think after everything with the cba gets settled, you’ll see a good amount of player movement. The past offseason was light b/c teams were saving up for this year. I will still be VERY shocked if a deal doesn’t get done. There’s so much money wrapped up in football. Forget the actual game, gambling, video games, merchandise, TV contracts, commercials, and even reporters.
i forgot he was even on the team
until Carr got the 1st round tender and we started talking about different scenarios that could play out with players already in house and players that could be drafted.
Was it him who returned that Janikowski fake FG for a touchdown a couple years back?
If so, thanks for that play, and good luck with your hip hop career.

Good luck MoLegg
I wouldnt be suprised to see him in a Raider uniform next season.

Who would you rather have---Leggett or Donald Washington?
I will take Leggett any day of the week over Donald Washington. Bad roster move on the Chiefs part.

Leggett hands down
Washington was made out as a JV player on the field

leggett hasnt played in 2 years
I think his absence has made fans grow fonder… he hasn’t been that good since his rookie yr
Washington hasn’t been good yet either, but at least he’s got potential

Washington came out as a sophomore, he’s still
really young. I’d imagine this is more like his rookie year than anything.

yep, d-wash came out a year early, so I almost dont count that rookie year because he was so darn raw

D-Wash any day of the week. Donald Washington gets the WORST things said about him here.
yet hes still a good ST player and a raw talent.

I wish him the best, thanks for everything
good luck in the future, I think Mo Leggs has a chance to start in this league if he gets it together and can stay healthy.
Ok, let's settle the NFL labor dispute with Roger Goodell and DeMaurice Smith in a one on one Oklahoma drill. First one to get a concussion loses.
Leggett was a good player on a 2008 Herm Edwards team, but he’s a poor player on a 2011 todd Haley team.
thats a good sign
Leggett, even at his best, would not have chiefs rookie of the year with this team
The fact that leggett was relatively good in 08 is a sign of how poor that team was
Prediction: KC will not draft a LB before the 3rd round
by stagdsp on Mar 5, 2011 1:49 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
You are correct
Arenas as a rook was far superior in coverage at NB than Leggett in his 3rd year.
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
I think people seem to have forgotten Leggett's scrappy, inspired play.
I still feel he would be a great asset as depth at CB on this team. Hope we somehow retain him.
by bamachief5558 on Mar 6, 2011 1:42 AM CST via mobile reply actions
Agreed.
At the beginning of the season (preseason), everyone was super excited about Leggett. He gets injured and everyone turns their backs. :(
by MasterChief on Mar 6, 2011 1:34 PM CST via mobile up reply actions
not sure about that
“scrappy” is an adjective that describes guys like Leggett and Lance Long… they played hard and showed glimpses of being NFL players… but in the end, neither really is… they just appeared to be, because they were on really bad teams.
I hope scrappy UDFAs are the type of players this team no longer depends too much on. Now that the rebuilding is much farther along, the quality of the players has improved a lot, and still has a ways to go.
