The Kansas City Chiefs have checked out a few potential defensive tackles for the 2011 NFL draft as far as we're aware and we can add one more to the list -- Temple DT Muhammad Wilkerson. Tony Pauline of SI.com reports Wilkerson has workouts with the Chiefs and Baltimore Ravens this week.
Muhammad is listed at 6'4" and 315 pounds and is considered a first or second round draft pick. The Chiefs hold the 21st pick so they could have a shot at him in the first round if they want it.
Here's a snapshot of his accomplishments last year from NFL Draft Scout:
First-Team All-MAC...Team captain for the three (Akron, PSU, Central Michigan) games ... started all 12 games at tackle ... one of just seven Owls to start every game ... also played on the punt and field goal defense units ... finished third on defense with 70 tackles, including a team-best 13.0 TFL, and a team-best 9.5 sacks.
Every defensive tackle the Chiefs work out comes with it the same question -- will DT Ron Edwards be back in Kansas City next year? He is scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent so the Chiefs plans for him next year could have an effect on how they draft.
Any thoughts on Wilkerson in the first or second round?
