The Kansas City Chiefs and the 31 other NFL teams made their way to the Florida pro day on Tuesday to see a handful of players work out.
The player we'll focus on is C Mike Pouncey, brother of Pittsburgh Steelers C Maurkice Pouncey. Though the 21st pick may be a bit early for an interior offensive lineman, several folks have mocked Pouncey to the Chiefs.
Pouncey was the unquestioned center attraction at the event, as numerous offensive line coaches attended the event, as well as general managers (Jacksonville's Gene Smith) and head coaches (New England's Bill Belichick). The Jaguars' Andy Heck, Bears' Mike Tice, and Steelers' Sean Kugler were among the offensive line coaches in attendance.
The Jaguars pick 16th, the Patriots 17th and the Bears 29th so the Chiefs wil have competition if he's one of the guys in play for the 21st pick.
Of course the idea of bringing in a first round center is one we entertain in a scenario where current C Casey Wiegmann avoids retirement and continues playing. We don't know if that's the case.
Some have suggested Mike Pouncey's stock is rising because his brother had such a good rookie year. He's doing all he can to promote that school of thought by wearing a shirt with "Team Pouncey" on the front and "Two of a kind" on the back.
