Them's fightin' words.
(Yes, I just really wanted to write that.)
Baltimore Ravens director of player personnel Eric DeCosta was on 105.7 The Fan's Ed Norris and Steve Davis show (via Pro Football Talk) on Monday and made some interesting comments while defending QB Joe Flacco. DeCosta was talking about Flacco's improvement and whether he's a top 10 quarterback in the league (he says he is) when he had this to say:
"I saw Matt Cassel play against the Baltimore Ravens in the playoffs. He was a Pro Bowl quarterback. And who would you rather have: Joe Flacco or Matt Cassel? [Cassel is] making $60 million this year."
It's only fair to point out that DeCosta said that while defending Flacco but it's still an interesting way to make a point. On that day, Flacco was 25-of-34 for 264 yards and two touchdowns while Cassel was 9-of-18 for 70 yards and three interceptions.
There's no doubt who looked like the Pro Bowl quarterback on that day. On the season, though, the winner is Cassel, if earning a Pro Bowl is the way you judge.
