Plaxico Burress an Option for The Chefs?
Michael Vick has proven that NFL players can come out of prison and light up the field. Plaxico Burress will be released from prison on June 6th, 2011 and according to Drew Rosenhaus the former NFL receiver is ready to get back to work. Burress will ostensibly be a free agent as the Giants parted ways with him after he shot himself in the leg at a nightclub in NYC.
Should the Chiefs consider going after Plaxico Burress? Chiefs fans will most likely argue that he would be a problem in the locker room, a distraction etc. and that would definitely be something that those of us within the Chiefs organization should look into and consider. But you do have to look at Michael Vick's recent run of success and think about how many teams wish they had him now. It seems that prison may indeed soothe the savage beast and actually make a player more responsible and structured.
No one can deny that Eli and the Giants were absolutely devastated by the loss of Burress, as they were barely a blip on the radar screen this year. Had it not been for their outstanding defense, the Giants would have gone 4-12 easily. When Burress was on the field he was a constant threat on every down and was impossible to cover in the endzone. He reminds me of Superbowl Champion Wide Out Andre Rison when he was in his prime - the guy simply caught EVERY ball thrown to him - period. Burress is big, imposing, and would make a great compliment to Bowe.

It is not that I think he is done, or that he would even be a nitemare in the locker room.
He would probably do great for the Chiefs, though just like with Santana Moss.
There are younger more viable options out there, that don’t have to wear ankle bracelets slowing up there routes.
I am sure he will give some NFL town a wonderful migraine, I just hope it isn’t KC.

It took Vick a year to get in football shape after prison and Plax is already
old in football years so I doubt he gets much of a look.
Exactly
Different ages, and Plax was already in decline when he had that incident.
I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
Plaxico Burress
ruined his football career by making a bad choice. Which NFL team will now ruin it’s 2011 season by doing the same? I hope it’s not the Chiefs.

I think you answered your own question.

The Chefs are an Inside Joke
You must be new to KC – The “Chefs” are an inside joke among Chiefs fans. It was from a TV commercial where the groundskeeper messed up the lettering in the End Zone at Arrowhead and accidentally spelled “Chefs” – it’s funny and stuff…

I'm not.........KC fan born and raised...........
and yes I remember that commercial!
I still haven't found what I'm looking for........
Everyone remembers that commercial
Hence the exact words in the commercial: “That’s great, but who are the chefs?” That snickers commercial ran coast to coast and then some. I remember seeing it in Hawaii.

It's not an inside joke
many faiders and donkeys fans call the Chiefs the chefs.
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting 'Holy ****... What a Ride!'
There is a huge free agent market for WRs this year.
Yes, I know, IF the CBA gets done.
I would much rather see the Chiefs go after Steve Breaston or Early Doucett. The Cardinals are working hard to retain Larry Fitzgerald, so it’s likely that one or both of these guys find employment somewhere else. Either one would be a solid #2 with solid down the field ability. That adds an element to the KC offense, and lessens the secondary’s focus on Bowe.

we can pass on plax
bowe, urban, curtis, mccluster, lawrence, tucker and breaston or steve smith. We’ll be fine without plax. That wr depth chart has speed and good hands. if we can upgrade vrabel and mcgraw imagine the speed on defense. Then we just need backup qb, nose tackle and center.

I like Plaxico
And I would like to see us give him a shot (no pun intended)
I understand the age thing, but I think he may have 2 or 3 good yrs left.
First his body hasn’t taken the beating over the past couple of years (unless you count blackjacks and belly clubs)
Second I think he may have something to prove. Not to everyone else, but to himself and that can be a powerful motivator. I hate to compare the two, but I think that has been a large part of Vick’s comeback.
Lastly, he is not the bad boy everyone makes him out to be. Yes he is spending 2 years in prison for doing something stupid (to himself). He harmed no one. He threatened no one. In fact players getting caught DUI are more likely to harm someone that Plaxico was. People die every day from DUI’s. How many times have you heard of someone dieing from an illegally concealed weapon falling out of their sweat pants. The only victim in Paxico’s crime was Plaxico.
I have not heard of any other problems with Plaxico in long career. His team mates speak highly of him. I don’t see this bad boy trouble maker that everyone is talking about.
That bullet could have just as easily killed someone, or injured a dancer.
Or a young/old man trying to hide from his family the fact that he goes to strip joints.
Hit up the clubs in big cities and find the ones that have athletic guys that carry concealed weapons into strip clubs. Let’s build a Las Vegas NFL team with those high moral characters.
The story if funny……., sure Plaxico paid his dues in Prison, and he probably is a better man for it. It is probably the best thing that could have happened for him in some ways. Does that mean he should be Kansas City’s first choice? IMO, No….15th choice, maybe, but there is a lot out there this year.

It takes receivers a while to get back into game form
Look at Mike Williams from USC, sat out one year, and is just now starting to get his head out of his butt and play well.
Even Mike Vick took an entire year. He was one of the greatest Athletes ever..
I am not saying Plaxico would be bad, but it would be a mid-west media circus. Scott Pioli and Todd Haley, IMO will not want that kind of media attention. That is a lot of dancing around time.
Steve Smith
Steve Breaston
Sidney Rice
James Jones
Jacoby Jones
Early Doucet
Legudo Naanee
Malcom Floyd
Vincent Jackson
Mike Sims Walker
Danny Amendola
Everyone of those guys is under 29
That is just off of my head
Why Plaxico Burress again?

I'd take one from that menu.
And go back for seconds.
"You talkin' to me? You TALKIN' to me ?" - Travis Bickle
The Steelers traded him cause of his antics.
The Giants had several issues with him before the gun thing.
Absolutely not
And for two key reasons:
For one, this is not comparable to Michael Vick. Two different positions. A wide receiver has a shorter shelf life than a quarterback. At 33, you rarely see the effectiveness that a receiver once had. I doubt the guy has been putting in the work that Jerry Rice did at that age. By the way, defenses will adjust for Vick next season just as they did his first go around and he won’t be as effective either.
And again, way too many problems for a still rebuilding team to take a chance on.
A young offence - old receiver, not really a good fit IMO
Is it me? or isn't about time the Lamar Hunt trophy belonged to His team?
To the greatest chiefs fans in the world I salute you.

Plaxico has a list of things as long as your arm
besides just the gun thing. Domestic violence, taking a vehicle from a car dealer in exchange for personal appearances of which he made none. He had no concealed carry license for the handgun he shot himself in the leg with (he did have an expired Florida CCW). He was involved in locker room altercations with team mates, he was fined for getting on refs during a game and making inappropriate remarks afterwards. He has a list of traffic violations including improper/fraudulent display of a tag, and the list just goes on and on. No thanks.
"The Hammer"
All of that sounds bad
Excluding the improper display of tags.
Damn son, I done gone and shot my leg
FOOL
We're the same team as last year, except incredibly better, and with new players.
We should probably ask Rich Gannon what he thinks.
