On December 30th 2011 I went to the 2011 Insight Bowl in Tempe, Arizona. I am from Kansas though, but my family and I came up to Phoenix for a vacation. The Insight Bowl consisted of two teams the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Oklahoma Sooners, however I had no interest in either teams being from Kansas. However I did have interest in to two players the whole entire game, those two players have struck interest in Chiefs fans. Those two players were Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones and Iowa offensive tackle Riley Reiff. Several Chiefs fans want to draft one of those players in April's draft, but I once seeing both play in person I was not impressed with either player. I will break both players down after the jump.
Landry Jones: Quarterback, Oklahoma
Oklahoma quarterback Landry Jones statistically has had a pretty good season throwing the football, throwing for over 4,400 yards along with 29 touchdowns and 15 interceptions. I've seen Landry Jones play in person twice both against sub par teams, but I was not impressed with what he had to offer. Jones physically has NFL ideal height and weight, standing 6'4 and weighing 230 pounds. He may look big on paper, but he is not what he seems. Above all Landry Jones is not an athlete. Jones does not have the muscle and body leanness that an NFL quarterback should have. Jones cannot run out of pressure at all, he is one of the slowest quarterbacks I have ever witnessed at the college level. Landry Jones also does not have the arm strength to be a good quarterback in the NFL, missing wide open receivers as well as being very inaccurate at times. It showed that he didn't have the arm strength when half of his completions were dinky little screen passes something that Chiefs fans are sick of seeing. Overall after evaluating him in person Landry Jones would not be an upgrade over Kyle Orton or even Matt Cassel. I see Landry Jones as a first round draft bust, but thats just my opinion.
Riley Reiff: Offensive Tackle, Iowa
Riley Reiff was a guy I was very excited about watching he just looked like an NFL player. Physically he was exactly what I wanted as the Chiefs possible replacement for Barry Richardson. Reiff is huge standing 6'6 and weighing 300 pounds. Reiff was not that fat for a offensive linemen he was very muscular, but still very big. Despite looking incredible to me in person and hearing about him I was not impressed. Reiff was a good run blocker, but was awful in pass protection. Reiff was getting harassed by Oklahoma defensive end R.J. Washington. Reiff was getting bull rushed in pass situations and seemed to be pushed back easily. At the end of the game I was very disappointed in Reiff's play he gave up 2 sacks, both sacks were by R.J. Washington. Reiff has got to improve in pass protection if he wants to be great at the next level and I do not see him as an upgrade over Barry Richardson.
