Why if the Chiefs sign Brandon Lloyd, They Won't Regret It
Rumors have been swirling all day, saying that if Josh Mcdaniels comes to KC as an offensive coordinator, WR BrandonLloyd will come too. Imagine that. Dwayne Bowe, Brandon Lloyd, Steve Breaston, and Jonathan Baldwin. 2 things I should also note: The Chiefs today said they will try to bring Orton back for next year, and Brandon Lloyd was one of the only Denver Broncos to defend Orton during training camp. And also, Brandon Lloyd was born In Kansas City.
Rumors of Mcdaniels coming to Kansas City as an Offensive Coordinator have been around since the beginning of last year. But with all the changes coming in KC, it seems pretty convincing that he might be coming there in the near future. According to Brandon Lloyd himself, Wherever Mcdaniels goes, he goes. Lloyd said " Im tied to him. He uses me differently than any offensive coordinator has in my career" That sure sounds like he will go wherever Mcdaniels does. The Chiefs have not had a great deep ball receiver in years, and if Jonathan Baldwin isn't ready for a starting job yet, Signing Lloyd would be great for a few years until Baldwin is completely ready.
Signing Lloyd, would give the Chiefs by far, the best Wide Receiving corp in the NFL. By far. The only problem is, Dwayne Bowe's contract ends this year, and if he doesn't re-sign, that will hurt them. A lot. Letting him go to another team would be above crazy. He has caught for 1,00 yards this year, with 3 Qb's, and 2 of them have struggled in all of their starts. If Bowe is re-signed, or they give himthe franchise tag, They would be all set. They would have a great deep ball receiver in Lloyd, Bowe, a big, strong, physical wide out who is a threat anywhere on the field, Steve Breaston, who has had a good, not great year, in the slot position this year, but would create some mismatches when most of the attention on Bowe and Lloyd. Then Last, Jonathan Baldwin, a 2011 1st round draft pick from Pitt, who showed some ability to jump up, and make any catch, at any time, and when he develops, he could be huge threat in the Chiefs offense. Think that's great? Remember they have top RB Jamaal Charles too. Yeah., I know.
Yes, there obviously are a lot of "if's" in here, but really, it's quite simple when you think about it. They would have to Bring in Romeo Crennel, interim HC, as the permanent HC, (Which is really almost a done deal if the Chiefs win Sunday), Bring Josh Mcdaniels in as the offensive coordinator, which is very possible with Gm Scott Pioli's past, working with Josh in New England, and then re-sign Bowe and Sign Brandon Lloyd, who today said himself, that he will practically go where Mcdaniels goes (Teams). With a new look Chiefs staff with Crennel and Mcdaniels, Adding Brandon Lloyd, and Re-signing Kyle Orton to Qb, The Chiefs are setting themselves up for long time success. Some may think it is a little unrealistic to have Bowe and Lloyd both on the same team with the situation the Chiefs are in with Bowe's contract, but they definitely have the cap space, and why not? If it will help them win, then they must do it. So what do you think Chiefs fans? Should they sing Brandon Lloyd along with Mcdaniels?

I'm all for signing him if we keep average Orton(god forbid)
He needs all the weapons he can get. Bowe,Baldwin,Breaston and Loyd would be sick. But,I don’t think Lloyd would come here to be the 4th receiver, even though he is a local kid. And I would not trade him for Bowe

He wouldn't be 3rd string
Theres a lot of reasons he would come here, He goes wherever mcdaniels goes and there are a ton of rumors of him coming to KC, since him and pooling have a history with each other, Lloyd and Orton and played together in Denver and Chicago, and he defended Orton in training camp saying he liked him at QB, and then he grew up in KC. Also, he wouldn’t be 4th string, he’d be a starter along with Bowe, Breaston would be a slot, as he is now, and Baldwin would be 4th in the depth chart, but would be getting a good amount of time since they would be passing with all those weapons. Plus some of the attention would be taken off of Breaston and Baldwin since they have 2 threats in Bowe and Lloyd

Bowe and Lloyd would be the starters
with Breaston in the slot and Baldwin being groomed to replace Bowe if he just plays out the franchise tag and leaves. Absolutely sick…
The promise of Lloyd at a hometown/McDaniels discount makes me a little happier about the concept of McDaniels…
sooner or later, God'll cut you down...
if it means MsDaniels comes here then forget about it

Forget about any scenarios that bring Ms.Daniels here
Nothing is worth that.

That wouldn't be too bad actually...
The possibility of 3 1000 yd recievers would be incredible
Uhhh...I hate looking at the 1983 Draft and seeing 2 HOF'ers picked after our washed up QB pick.
Yeah
Also, I can’t see Mcdaniels wanting to be in a situation in st Louis where they might fire spagnola. Him and Piloi go way back, so of we get Mcdaniels, we get Lloyd. The only problem is, does Piloi want to pay 4 big money receivers? He should if it helps us win.

The Rams will fire Spags, and McDaniels will be fired with him
Along with most, if not all, the Rams staff.
Nicknames I have coined:
Jamaal Charles = 'Haley's Comet'
Shaun Smith = 'Big Nasty'
Kelly Gregg = 'Old Gregg'
keep average orton
You need a better QB. In Orton’s 3 games, how many times have the Chiefs seen the endzone?
Honestly, I don't think we will see any moves made at WR, but we SHOULD be making them.
We all got pretty hyped for Bowe-Baldwin-Breaston, but it really hasn’t lived up to the billing.
Bowe- Has started dropping the ball again. On top of that, he’s going to want big money and that’s a problem. He shows up against poor talent or when the pressure isn’t on to perform. He earned a big contract in 2010, but played his way out of it in 2011.
Baldwin – Seriously, have we really seen anything from this kid to get excited about yet? Locker room problems, dropped passes, and poor routes. I’m not saying he won’t turn out to be good, but I certainly haven’t seen much to get me hyped about him.
Breaston – Our only steady target, but he came here to play for Haley. With Bowe and Baldwin (or potentially Lloyd), Breaston gets knocked back down to #3 WR at some point. He busted his tail to get out of that position behind Boldin and Fitzgerald. He’ll see better opportunities elsewhere.

Bowe's numbers are still #1 WR quality
No he isn’t a Top 5 receiver like he was last year, but he is still Top 10 and would be a #1 on most other teams.
I would look to lock up both him and Carr for 4-5 years.
As for Lloyd, he has more question marks than positives, in my opinion. Bowe >> Lloyd, even when you factor in financials.
Like I have said previously, I think Breaston can play Lloyd’s role in a hypothetical McDaniels-run offense. They have similar size and skill sets, although Breaston is faster. Lloyd is injury-prone and 31 years old.
I think he could give us 2-3 good years, while Bowe can give us 4-5 better ones.
Nicknames I have coined:
Jamaal Charles = 'Haley's Comet'
Shaun Smith = 'Big Nasty'
Kelly Gregg = 'Old Gregg'
Bowe's yardage numbers are still good, there's no denying that.
But looking at TDs and drops, I wouldn’t feel the least bit sorry about dropping him.
You’re right about Bowe > Lloyd, but what about vs Vincent Jackson? Mario Manningham? Marques Colston? DeSean Jackson?

I'd take Bowe over all those guys
Jackson’s a one trick pony, and the other 3 are all aided by much better QB play than Bowe. PLUS, he produces at a rate similar to or greater than all of them DESPITE having terrible QBs.

I know, Breaston was on the depth chart a #3 receiver but he played the slot receiver position .Not the #3 receiver. He would play the same role he did this year. Lloyd would be #2. Bowe would be #1. Baldwin #4. he may not be happy with #4 but he will hav

You're going to pay that kind of money to a #4 WR?
No way does this happen. AND you’re going to spread around enough touches for all of them? Not a chance.
No way does this scenario work.

+1
Why? Why? Why would you do that? Baldwin has the highest ceiling of any WR on the team right now. Play the man and throw him the ball!
Nicknames I have coined:
Jamaal Charles = 'Haley's Comet'
Shaun Smith = 'Big Nasty'
Kelly Gregg = 'Old Gregg'
Amen to this
I see Lloyd as an inferior option if they can’t make a deal with Bowe work and want to franchise someone else.
But otherwise, there’s no need for a 4th WR that would require a large deal.

What depth chart are you looking at, Aaron?
Breaston has been the #2 receiver all year with Baldwin at #3.
Nicknames I have coined:
Jamaal Charles = 'Haley's Comet'
Shaun Smith = 'Big Nasty'
Kelly Gregg = 'Old Gregg'
Dont you understand?
When youtr a slot receiver, it doesn’t matter where you are on the dopth chart! their depth chart doesnt mean anything! nothing! Breaston is a salot receive, ity doesnt matter where he is on the chart. he’s a slot.

He's been playing on the sideline a great deal this year
He did not play slot WR for many of our snaps even when we had 3 WRs out there.

Breaston is a slot receiver
He wont cre that he is the #3,m he is a slot receiver. Slot’s go in at certain times no matter what place in the dpeth chart they are at. He would play the same role as he did last year, in the slot.
by AaronMannicci on Dec 31, 2011 3:43 PM CST up reply actions
Also
he is under contract for 4 more years (breaston) so he wont be able to go anywhere else and wont see any other opprotunities
by AaronMannicci on Dec 31, 2011 3:45 PM CST up reply actions
He can always demand a trade.
Players do it all the time. He can sandbag, he can go public, he has plenty of tools to use.

Yes, but Breaston said that he also came here so that he can have Bowe and Baldwin around him. So he I don't see him demanding a trade. He walso wouldn't leave when they are on the way up. Other players have, but I don't see him doing that.
by AaronMannicci on Dec 31, 2011 6:02 PM CST up reply actions
The Cards let Boldin go because they were confident in Breaston as the #2.
And there are plenty of teams that would line him up there. I wouldn’t doubt for a second that Philly would jump on him after they lose DeSean Jackson. Or Carolina, New England, or any other team that uses smaller WRs.

Yep, Breaston has been our #2 this year and has done surprisingly well with no QB
Lloyd is a good player, but we already have 3 receivers that would play over him. We need to continue to develop Baldwin, because his ceiling is the highest at the WR position right now. Most receivers take awhile to acclimate to the league and I can’t believe everyone is giving up on Baldwin so soon.
Most teams would kill to be in the position we are right now with our WR corps and we want to throw Lloyd in the mix? If he is content playing second fiddle to the other guys — fine, but I just see him becoming a distraction more than anything.
Nicknames I have coined:
Jamaal Charles = 'Haley's Comet'
Shaun Smith = 'Big Nasty'
Kelly Gregg = 'Old Gregg'
I'd rather see us bring Kerry Colbert back.
Thought he was a solid #4, but Copper has looked better with Orton too.

Breaston doesn't just line up in the slot
He is our #2 receiver essentially and gets more reps than Baldwin.
As for the poll, why not create an option for “Resign Bowe, hire McDaniels’” because that would get my vote and would likely win the poll. I don’t like the other options.
Nicknames I have coined:
Jamaal Charles = 'Haley's Comet'

Lloyd said that he is going to the team mcdaniels goes to. So it's like they are a package. mcdaniels goes, lloyd goes.

He WANTS to go where McD goes
I highly doubt McD turns down a job because the team isn’t interested in Lloyd.

Baldwin made the NFL catch of the year (if it hadn't been called back).
Seriously, have we really seen anything from this kid to get excited about yet?
With no offseason, practicing with a broken thumb, playing with Palko, and then a brand new Orton, Baldwin has been fine as a rookie.
Breaston is not a FA is he?

Really?
Pioli is going to do what he wants regardless if we the fans like it or not. Im not defending McDaniels but when you look at the Rams who do they have on offense to execute the plays that are being called? Next to nobody and the team has so many injuries its crazy. If McDaniels comes here I wouldn’t like it but who knows what the future holds and if he is able to bring lloyd the future of the chiefs passing game would look amazing with an average QB.

I question Lloyd's attitude, isn't that why he was traded from the Donk's? Maybe he
just wanted out of Tebow town and has no issues, but I think he has been a head case wherever he is, and if so, I say no to the next T.O.. But on the other hand, I like his abilities and ain’t sold on Bowe in clutch situations, so I voted sign em all and trade Bowe. Maybe to the Ram’s in a combo deal for the Ram’s top pick, which we use for what we need.
