It's almost that time when Old Man of one year gives way to New Baby of the next, and a long standing tradition that many of us have is making that New Year's Resolution, making ourselves a promise to improve our lives. Normally yes, I'd resolve SOMETHING as usual this coming New Year, as all of us always do ... lose weight, save money, write a real pen & paper letter, do something nice for someone just because it's the right thing to do, stop arguing with Aiken, help a little old lady across the street, stop using cliches, buy more Chiefs gear, stop spending so much time blogging and more time living (stop blogging? hahahahahahaha!), stop cheating on the wife (I don't have to, one of the perks of being single), jump out of a perfectly good airplane (you're going to climb WHAT? yeah, right, sure!) ... we all want to better ourselves, live life more fully, this that or something else, and so every year we make ourselves a promise to do just that, except ...

You know., I know, everyone on the planet knows what happens: we get busy, we forget, we get involved with other things, we run out of money, or time, or energy, or ... whatever it is, and it's always something, it just never seems to happen and our paradigm of what's important to us shifts in a new direction (which is normal, because after all: shift happens!) and so our resolutions, our promises (yes, honey, I took out the trash!) and our goals, at least the ones that have nothing to do with the Chiefs, go by the wayside.

So, whatcha gonna do about it, huh? Huh??? I'll tell you what you're gonna do! You're gonna admit, for once in your life, that you're NOT going to do something ... you're finally going to face up to the fact that this is NOT the year that you dedicate a major (or even a minor) part of your life trying to do something that you never REALLY wanted to do to begin with. And you're going to promise yourself, right here and right now, that you aren't going to lie about it any more. Why kid yourself and others? Why set yourself up for failure? No, this year you're going to ensure your success! Instead of kidding yourself, be honest and truthful with yourself (and the rest of the world) and tell us what you hereby resolve NOT to do this coming year!

This year, for once in your life, you are going to sip that champagne, raise your glass and drink a toast to finally being man (or woman) enough to admit that you are really NOT going to ... well, that's where YOU come in! What exactly is it that you, dear reader, will NOT resolve to do in 2012? I myself hereby resolve that I will not be less sarcastic in 2012. Oh, I know ... I should be nicer, and I usually try, honest! But come on, people ... let's face it. Me? Give up sarcasm? Not a chance and you know it better than I do. But hey, I'm being honest and I feel SO much better! (I may be going to hell in a bucket, but it's gonna be a guilt-free trip!)

Meantime, while you're thinking and posting, enjoy the pretty fireworks ... to one and all in Chiefs Nation, and those all over SB Nation, I wish you a very, very, very ...

And the cat's in the cradle and the silver spoon, little boy blue and the man in the moon.

"When you comin' home, Dad?"

I don't know when, but we'll have a good time then, son, you know we'll have a good time then.
