So you all thought this post was going to be about Miller, did ya? Well, sure enuf is, sorta. Many of us have already been discussing draft possibilities, and I have been thinkin do we draft a TWEANER to replace McGraw? OR, has Scotty P. already thunk ahead of us and drafted a bigger, faster player in Gabe Miller to fulfill that role? Or is that tweaner already on this team? If not, who are likely candidates in this off season, whether FA or in the draft?
Because I just do not see him coming back to an active roster, McGraw that is. Not only is his age a problem , but it seems the ol injury bug has been nibblin on his behind. Oh yeah, his speed is a detriment, much like Vrable, and I think we have seen the last of him in uniform. Maybe he comes in and helps coach? Special Teams maybe? Maybe to K-State to learn from and succeed Snyder.
But when Pioli drafted him, Miller was a puzzling choice to me and I wondered why he was picked. Physically gifted, but poor experience regarding a particular position. That was when it clicked, this idea that ol Gabe, was drafted in hopes he could learn to play McGraw's spot in certain situations. How would he fare as a match up to a big TE or H-back? Wasn't he a TE first in college, then switched to the defense? So he has experience in both roles, understands what it takes to be a situational defender, perhaps an eligible on Goal Line situations? Again a role that Vrable had. Maybe we have a Monster, like in the old 5-3 Monster, to have responsibilities for certain players. From what I remember the kid has size, speed and agility, a perfect combo.
I don't know, I think I see some mad genius here from Scott, what do you think? Go Chief's!!!
