I don't know what was greater: the joy of beating the Packers or the misery of defeat to the Raiders. Everything happened that we needed to happen, except the victory on our part. Bills beat the Broncos and the Lions beat the Chargers. We had poor play calling offensively for the majority of the game. The good plays called our players did not execute. Then we had the ball with two minutes left, we marched, got in field position, and Richard Seymour ruined my Christmas. Sadly, the beautiful justice of an imperfect season ending with a playoff berth was crushed by a blocked field goal, and a short lived over-time.
The perfect end to a season is now just a dream and we now are to play spoiler. Truthfully, I don't know if I want to play spoiler. The win would be nice, but I don't want the Raiders and their record breaking penalties to represent the AFC West. It is nauseating knowing a team that is going to break the NFL record for penalties is going to the playoffs.
Ok, crying aside, lets forget about the playoffs. We obviousily were not worthy of the playoffs. Too, many injuries, an offense of ineptness we hope to forget (scoring 13pts/game avg.), bright spots here and there that we hope can be built on for next season.
The Chiefs are in a weird spot with Crennel. If we don't retain him as Head Coach, I don't think he will want to stick around as D-coordinator. I'm sure he will get an offer to fill another Head Coaching vacancy. So I hope we keep Crennel on staff but we need a new O-coordinator, and a new special teams coach.
Who will be our Quarterback? What are we going to do with our expiring player contracts? Who will we bring in as free agents and who will we draft? Bowe in a contract year has had alot of drops. Carr I think is better in man-coverage than Flowers but doesnt tackle as well. Carr works his receiver out of bounds, makes plays on the ball and he is tall. But, we did draft Jalil Brown, and we have Javier Arenas.
If everything would go my way, we would hire a great, well respected O-Coordinator, Keep Crennel, and get a better Special Teams Coach. We would Re-sign Carr, re-sign Belcher, and we franchise Bowe. With Bowe franchised we have another year to see if he can eliminate drops, or we can use him for trade bait to maybe jump up in the draft. I love Bowe, I have two Chiefs jerseys, Bowe and Tony Gun, but we did just draft a receiver, we acquired Breaston and this draft class is louded with WR talent. We acquire three free agents. Offensive line needs some improvement, depth at tight-end, safety, and a nose-tackle are our main concerns other than the MAIN ISSUE.
Who will be our quarterback? We will retain Orton and trade Cassel. In the draft we will pick O-line first, next round we will draft MLB or Nose Tackle. Third Round we will pick up Nick Foles at Quarterback, or trade back into the second for Foles. We will draft a later round quarterback for two reasons, less expectations for the young QB and breathing room for the QB's on the roster. The late rounds I hope we address depth issues, I would like a TE like Coby Fleener, a saftey, and a Running Back. Any suggestions would be considered. Chiefs Nation we have the core, what do you think we need?
What is the one Area we DO NOT need to improve, if all other areas ARE improved? (This is porbably too easy - Any Better suggestions for a poll?)
