NFL Playoff Scenarios: Broncos Can Clinch AFC West In Week 16

The NFL has released the playoff scenarios entering Week 16 and the Denver Broncos can wrap up the AFC West title in a couple of different ways. Oddly enough, the Kansas City Chiefs could help them win it.

The Broncos can clinch the AFC West crown if they beat the Buffalo Bills this weekend and the Oakland Raiders lose or tie (to the Chiefs). They can also get in with a tie plus a Raiders loss plus a San Diego Chargers loss or tie. The Broncos can clinch a playoff spot by beating the Bills this weekend plus the New York Jets and Cincinnati Bengals losing and the Tennessee Titans losing or tying.

For the Chiefs playoff scenario, it's all about the Broncos-Bills game. If Denver wins that one, then it's over. But if Buffalo can somehow snap their losing streak, then the Chiefs could be alive.

The Chiefs playoff scenario, as we all know by now:

  • Chiefs need to beat the Raiders this weekend and the Broncos in the season finale;
  • Bills need to beat the Broncos this weekend;
  • Chargers need to lose one of their two final games (Lions and Raiders, both on the road).

a fly for the ointment

if Denver loses both (to the Bills and to the Chiefs) and the Chargers win both (Lions and Raiders) then the San Diego Chargers would be the AFC West Champions

how depressing is that

If the Chiefs don’t go, I’m not sure which team I want to go. I guess I’ll go with the Bronco’s, just so maybe they will stick with Tebow.

To be honest, it's unfortunate for the guy

He’s incredibly hated by many through no real fault of his own.

He’s honest about his faith and generally only answers questions when asked about it directly, yet gets hated for “shoving religion down peoples’ throat.”

And it’s not really his fault that the media goes bonkers for him either.

Seems like a really nice dude, I kinda feel for the guy being so hated.

I mean, don’t get me wrong, I personally DO hate him. But only because he’s a Donkey.

How so?

The words aren’t even there. Just the verse itself.

So it’s not like there’s any meaning attached to it for those who don’t care to look. Just a word and some numbers.

Again, it just seems like SUCH a low standard. I mean, if I wear a Chiefs hat am I “shoving my favorite hobby/sport/team down your throat?”

I guess I feel like there’s a bit of a double standard when it comes to religion, that’s all.

So let me get this straight...

Writing a Bible verse (not even the words mind you, just the verse itself) in teeny-tiny lettering that is underneath a helmet is “shoving religion down your throat?”

How would be an UNoffensive expression of faith then?

I’m genuinely asking. It would seem that peoples’ idea of what is shoving religion down someones’ throat has gotten very, very touchy as of late.

how about this

I’m watching football to watch football, not to be lectured on my faith (or lack thereof) by some 20 year old millionaire.

I don’t want to watch a superbowl commercial with Tim Tebow telling me abortion is wrong

I don’t want to hear Tim Tebow thank his lord and savior Jesus Christ, every time someone sticks a mic in his face.

If there was an Islamic football player praising Allah, and praying to the holy land every time he scored or was interviewed, the Xtians in this country would lose their mind.

So yes, Tebow is shoving his religion in people’s faces, and it’s so fucking annoying that I don’t even give a shit what he does on the football field because he’s a total douchebag.

In my opinion.

Which is right.

That's where we differ

I see the whole thing as a giant dog and pony show.

Now look at what Braylon Edwards did. He’s no saint, but made a pledge to help inner city youth in Cleveland that he would give them each $10,000 towards college if they had a 2.5 GPA and performed 15 hours (i think) of community service.

That’s a million dollars to do something tangible for those who are in need.

That’s the type of stuff I admire. Not some guy preaching something that the majority of this country believes anyway.

I understand, and you make a good point

And it really doesn’t offend me that much, so I might not be the best person to ask- but what I’m saying is that Tebow deliberately associated his image with religion by writing those Bible verses on his eye black and talking about Jesus as much as he did. And that’s his decision. He used his platform as a public figure to make statements of faith and religion. That’s called shoving it down peoples’ throats, because whether or not they wanted to think about or talk about religion, every time they had to see a shot of Tebow on national TV, they had to look at a BIble verse.

If I’m a fan of some team that’s playing Tim Tebow that wants to watch football just to watch football, in order to watch my team I’m forced to also take in religious messages that I may not so much want to be exposed to. That’s called shoving it down peoples’ throats, and that’s what Tebow did no matter how you look at it.

I'm not saying I particularly like all of the alcohol and cheerleaders

But I watch anyway. At the same time, if I don’t like Tebow’s religion stuff, I watch anyway. The problem with that analogy, however, is that if you’re fighting the fight against alcohol and cheerleaders, the question is different. In that case you’re arguing against an entire organization, or an entire cultural mindset, AND issues of money, rather than an individual person. With Tebow, it’s about the individual.

by bwelch37 on Dec 20, 2011 3:16 PM CST up reply actions

It'd argue in Tebow's case it is not about the individual

The entire “cultural mindset” of Christianity involves sharing your faith with others.

And that's kind of where I draw the line with religion.

Proselytizing is, in my mind, a bit irresponsible and annoying. If somebody finds resonance with a particular path or particular faith, then they’ll pursue it. If not, don’t push it on them. That’s just not fair. It’s too bad it’s part of the doctrine for a lot of religions, and I understand why it is, but it’s too bad. I think interfaith dialogue would be a lot more productive if proselytizing wasn’t a concern.

by bwelch37 on Dec 20, 2011 3:23 PM CST up reply actions

To an extent, yes... but think about it this way (I swear I'll stop after this)

To give you perhaps another view on a Christian who is witnessing (or proselytizing)…

Imagine yourself as Christian. You believe that we’re all sinners, and all deserving of Hell. You also believe that only through Christ can we be forgiven of that sin, and without that forgiveness we’re doomed to spend eternity in Hell.

(not going to debate the merits, just trying to give a tiny sketch of the mindset)

With that belief, how much would you have to hate someone to NOT tell them about Christ?

Does that make sense? Those who are sincere in their beliefs don’t wish to annoy or bother others. They feel they’ve landed on the truth, and don’t want people they care about to suffer.

(Again, I’m NOT trying to “sell you” on my beliefs. I’m just saying that perhaps seeing it from the view of the “proselytizer” may make you rethink how irresponsible he is)

I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.
I am the Master of Hyperenthetical Asiditry (you know, like this. Only more)

by MNchiefsfan on Dec 20, 2011 3:28 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah see I get that.

Which is why I understand why it’s part of the doctrine. And really, if someone proselytizes to me, I say thank you because it really is a kind gesture and move on. But I choose not to speak about my own beliefs because I honestly feel that you find your path only if you’re looking for it, and if it’s the one that works for you. In other words, there is no absolute truth- it’s all about what is true for the individual. That’s what leads to respect and tolerance. And since that is something I believe, I find proselytizing to be, as I said, a little annoying and irresponsible. It’s something I can live with, though, because I understand that the motivations behind it are generally sincere.

because he was a florida lizard too….but he can stay being a qb…its when he finally relizes he is a running back, thats when he is gonna be dangerous

but that bs shit got to stop, force tebow to throw and see what happens when its real windy in buffalo

It was funny how they compared Tebow and Brady as if there is even a contest. Even on the broadcast they showed them side by side. “YOU ARE LOOKING AT THE SAME MAN PRETTY MUCH”

it will keep working

until teams play man to man on their receivers, and have someone who can match up 1v1 on Tebow.

He’s especially bad at throwing when he’s on the run.

by aasukisuki on Dec 20, 2011 3:06 PM CST up reply actions

I'm curious why more teams aren't assigning a single LB to Tebow

Take DJ, for example. He’s faster than Tebow, and certainly capable of tackling him one-on-one. Why not assign DJ to spy him every play?

Couldn't agree more.

I think what it’s going to take is selling out on the run, or selling out on containing Tebow, force him to pass for his fourty something percent completion percentage and you can beat them easily. However, they have a solid D and their run game (even other than Tebow) is pretty good as well. Make him play NFL QB and you win.

That’s typical national media making a story out of 2 players that shouldn’t EVER be compared to eachother. Why don’t they just induct Tebow into the HOF right now and end the agony of waiting…

The Patriots D isnt exactly the Steelers or Ravens. But neither is Buffalo for that matter...

But its just like RAC said last week, Any given Sunday a team can rise up and beat another. We just have to hope that Buffalo pulls their heads out just long enough to win another game. Even when there appears to be little to play for, teams can sometimes rise up and find other reasons to win a game. Let us hope this is what occurs in Buffalo Saturday

Pioli and Haley both deserve part of the blame. Haley because he was unwilling to to give Gaither a legitimate shot when healthy and Pioli because he has the final say with personnel issues.

I’m not extremely pissed about it, like some people, because there was no chance they move Albert during the season and Gaither hasn’t proven himself on the right side. It could’ve been an attitude issue (Gaither not wanting to play RT), an ability issue (not able to play RT at the same level), or just a complete breakdown in evaluation. My guess is that it’s a mixture of the three.

"Hater" is a term used by weak-minded people in the face of legitimate criticism.

That sounds about right

I find it difficult to believe he couldn’t have beaten out B-Rich given a legit shot, but it’s true that he hasn’t proven himself on that side.

Oh well. Maybe Mims turns into a legit RT with a year under his belt. Although that means 1,000,000 more Mims jokes…
