I turned on NFL Network this afternoon and they were talking about Tony Sparano getting fired. I was a little shocked that they fired him before the season ended, but I knew it was coming. What I could not believe was when I scanned the side of the screen to see what was coming up next and I saw Chiefs next Coach as a topic. I thought to myself "that's an odd topic". Then I looked down and saw Todd Haley was fired.
I was completely shocked. I thought that Haley would have at least made it to next season. Why you ask?
I for one thought that Haley did way more good than bad, and that this team was headed in the right direction.
What I can't figure out is how can Haley be fired over what is happening. I have to give props to the post that Steve_In_RI made earlier because I agree with a lot of what he said. In many cases, the Chiefs just can't do any thing right. Now don't get me wrong, There were many things that needed to be changed, but I felt like Haley was going in the right direction.
Haley inherited one of the most awful teams I have ever seen, and probably one of the most awful in history. He brought in a conditioning program that was ridiculed. He got the most out of players who until then were underachievers. He went from the gutter to the playoffs. The team had only gotten better.
How could he be fired during a season where The best offensive player, the best defensive player, the best TE, and the starting QB went down? There is no team that would have survived that. And most of them likely wouldn't have as many wins as we have. I feel like we don't give coaches a real chance here (in the last few years) so we have to stay in rebuilding mode.
Label me frustrated.
