Chiefs Vs. Jets: Kansas City Fails To Show Up Against New York

As can be expected, there are very few positive things to take out of the Kansas City Chiefs' 37-10 loss to the New York Jets today. It was a complete meltdown, failure, debacle, whatever you want to call it. The Chiefs got their butts whooped today.

The Chiefs had just over 200 yards of total offense. Tyler Palko threw one interception and generally played uninspired football.

The last few minutes were a perfect encapsulation of the Chiefs' effort today. In the red zone, Tyler Palko found a wide open Dwayne Bowe in the end zone but Bowe fell and dropped the ball. It was a sure seven points, irrelevant then but still, that disappeared.

Then, after getting the ball at their own 1-yard line, Kansas City ran Jackie Battle and he was promptly stuffed for a safety.

A dropped TD pass and a safety. If you missed this game, that about sums up the 27 point loss.

Joel has his post coming up soon. Quick reactions to this blowout?

Funny Yates is a 3rd string Rookie and look what he's doing in Houston

While our 3rd string rookie sits on the bench behind a guy who shouldn’t even be on the team.

F#$k you Haley. I’m done with you.

do you think Yates would be playing for any other reason than they lost their back up for the season due to injury?

If Leinhart had 2 broken ribs, a broken non-throwing hand, and was receiving radiation treatments for dick cancer between games…. He would STILL be playing.

Time for Haley to go

There is no reason Thomas Jones should still get carries or that Tyler Palko should still get snaps. I dont care how unprepared or crap they think Stanzi is. Tyler Palko is the worst WB i’ve seen in the league for a while. it doesn’t get much worse

Defense

has no chance with this offense. Anything good they do will be outdone, in negatives, twofold by the offense. Palko is an abomination. It is impossible to win games with a QB like this. I am not saying other people are playing great (the last two weeks the D did)….I am saying Palko is so bad it does not matter.

Considering we're only 1/2 through this rebuild, is it really starting over?

Or upgrading our “process?”

A different HC doesn’t mean blowing up the whole thing…look at PIT. They took an outsider from a different scheme and he gladly integrated into a different defensive style and team culture while making it better at the same time.

A new coach might want to keep RAC and team…preserve some of our progress instead of throwing our (very tiny) baby out with the bathwater.

Who else out there that is part of his circle is there for him to bring in?

He can’t bring in another young guy to groom as a coach because once Haleys gone, he’s next in line.

They have Jake Delhomme and Jeff Garcia...

so obviously they didn’t feel completely comfortable with Yates but they have a good run game and the best D in football so having the rookie there isn’t as big a problem for them. Although Yates did throw for 344 yards today and brought them back on the road… It’s amazing what can happen if you have some talent and get a chance. I think Brunell could have done about all of that to us today.

Put it this way: When you watched the game, did it look like something Cassel would do in one of his better games? Yes? Then he didn’t beat the shit out of us…he took advantage of a weak opponent. He’s a gamer with a big paycheck…just like #7.

"I’m still waiting to get my first sympathy card about all this. Nobody else cares that we lost our quarterback. They’re just out there waiting to kick our butt. So you can be an ostrich and keep your head in the sand, or you can realize we’ve suffered a dramatic injury here and we can’t just fall down and let everybody kick us in the face."

Handing off the ball, and throwing underneath to running back.
Sanchez did not beat the Chiefs today.. he didn’t lite up ANYONE.
Sanchez is Matt Cassel Jr.

The running game lit the Chiefs up… because they can’t tackle at the point of attack. They have given up over 130 yards a game on the ground this season. At time the pass defense looks downright brilliant, even without Berry…. but the run defense is awful.

The Jets beat the Chiefs, and handily.. but Sanchez couldn’t light up a Christmas tree if he had 5 gallons of gasoline and a box of matches.

I’m not saying saying he is top 5(or top 10 for that matter) but he is better than fans on here think.Sanchez might be the most despised qb on AP not named Phillip Rivers, why all the hate? You have to remember,Sanchez has a defensive minded HC and a conservitive OC.I would love to see what he could do with a creative OC that believed in him

I think it was the right decision to sit Stanzi

yeah Yates has had success but he is in there out of necessity, the Texans are vying for a playoff spot and high seeding. Kansas City has nothing to play for. I think the orginization feels as though Stanzi is the future of this team and they don’t want to “David Carr” his career.

I’m still backing Haley here. He has the team but he just doesn’t have a QB to make it run, not many teams can keep up with Palko at QB. I say let’s give Haley a real QB and see what he can do with that, then if it’s still bad you have to start the fire Haley wagon

No, the Herm comparo.

saints has been telling me for weeks that Haley is Herm 2.0, and I’ve been telling him that isn’t true. But this week’s game is the first I’ve seen that’s MADE me sit up and go, “Wow, I’ve seen this play before, and it isn’t very good.”

No, we’ve looked undisciplined and out of sync…about every other game we’ve played this year. But with Herm, I felt like that was every game. I still feel that way, which is why I still think Herm is a (slightly) worse head coach. In fact, I still think Herm Edwards owes me money for the season tix I owned in 2008. I mean, good grief, that team was so lazy and undisciplined that a 280-lb running back outran our entire defense for an 80 yard score. At least a legit team with legit players laid the wood today.

Note…Herm and Grbac are football four-letter words to me, and it’s taking all of my restraint to speak of either, civilly.

Fire Todd Haley.
Fire Bill Muir.
Promote Romeo Crennel to head coach.
Promote Jim Zorn to offensive coordinator.
Cut Barry Richardson.
Cut Tyler Palko.
Unless he’s not healthy, give Kyle Orton 80 of the starting snaps.
Give Stanzi backup snaps.

by ProbablyYoungerThanAllOfYou on Dec 11, 2011 3:49 PM CST up reply actions

what would the TEAM (not your curiosity) gain from putting a rookie QB into a game....

….at 1/2 time when the team is down 28-3 and the QB has been sacked 5 times, and running for his life on every drop back?

If Stanzi played well… that would just mean that he didn’t get killed and maybe completed a couple passes (which Palko did in the second half).

If Stanzi were NOT ready and played badly, that would mean he got his ass handed to him, and his head smashed in for 1/2 a football game in which he had no real chance to pull out a win, due to a completely porous O-Line and no effective run game.

You can say he’d benefit from the snaps, which I don’t believe to be true. If you have NO CHANCE to execute the game plan… why bother risk injury, and destroying the guy’s confidence. There’s nothing to gain, except to satisfy fan curiosity.

Well said, señor. I would say it’s a whole lot of both, but it’s clear that upgrading personnel is not going to fix our problems all by itself. If this were the Haley’s first year I might cut him some slack, but it’s not.

Did the Chiefs win today?

I’ve been sleeping all day. I assume with our high-powered offense and well-coached, disciplined players, there is no way we can lose, right?

I'm so overrated, I'm underrated.

by RememberDelaney37 on Dec 11, 2011 4:02 PM CST via mobile reply actions

Our defense allowed 5 field goals???

They are TERRIBLE! If we could just get our defense to play a well as our offense does, we would be unbeatable!

Taylor turns it over too much.

If he would just play smarter, KU is a top 10 team.

by ProbablyYoungerThanAllOfYou on Dec 11, 2011 4:14 PM CST up reply actions

or they sit his ass down and stop playing him

you cant have your 4 year starting point guard turning it over 10 times and game and not beable to make free throws, he has no business playing at KU, he doesnt learn from his mistakes, he does the same thing every game

by banshee_01 on Dec 11, 2011 4:18 PM CST up reply actions

I find it comical people are actually considering him a legitimate NBA prospect.

lol

I dont know who those people are, cause your point guard cant turn it over that many times a game, he set the KU record against Duke for turnovers, otherwise we probably win that game

and the NFL is a joke

I mean seriously 81 penalty yards called on 1 series to move a team all the way down the field all on BS calls, those officials should be suspended for the game they called today, it was horribly sad, and Im not saying thats why we lost, but in the NFL these days its all about the jersey you wear and the name on the back of it

by banshee_01 on Dec 11, 2011 4:15 PM CST reply actions

They were decent all day up to that point.

That drive was pathetic though. And I don’t know how he overturned the Greene fumble earlier with the video evidence that was there.

"Give them nothing! But take from them everything!"

by GenericBrand on Dec 11, 2011 4:18 PM CST up reply actions

yep

cause isnt that the exact same play that they called Dex a fumble against SD i think, theres no way they say enough evidence to overturn the call on the field

by banshee_01 on Dec 11, 2011 4:23 PM CST up reply actions

They could definitely assume he had it.

But the video evidence wasn’t enough. It was actually worse evidence then the McCluster fumble.

by GenericBrand on Dec 11, 2011 4:25 PM CST up reply actions

No the refs were pretty bad most of the game...

Yes Arenas was holding(soft call that more times than not doesn’t get called), but there was no reason the ref shouldn’t have call holding on Hali during the same play. This gave the Jets a fresh set of downs… and there is no way that Sanchez runs a bootleg in for the TD on the very next play(with 3 more chances to get a TD).

The refereeing (if we want to call this refereeing as suspect as it might be) was aweful!

Go Chiefs!!!!

So who's the Genius

… who settled on Cassel, Palko, Stanzi as our QB core at the beginning of the season? Is there a worse set of QB’s in the league? I’m not sure where to look if there is.

Cassel and Palko will not throw the ball past the 3 yard line, they just wont do it. Our WR’s are still having to make circus catches to make plays, getting no YAC.

And how bad is Stanzi if Palko keeps on getting the starting role.

by Ole_Miss_Guy on Dec 11, 2011 6:10 PM CST reply actions

I think it's the same guys who

thought Muir would be a good OC, Richardson a good RT, Wiegmann a good C, Lilja a good LG, and that Waters shouldn’t be in a Chiefs uniform anymore…

and that the pre-season, as a whole, should just be a conditioning camp. But who’s really concerned about August 2011 at this point?

this so called rebuild process..........................

first off i really thought haley was the guy but his ways are really WTF all time now! it will be nice to get our stars back next year an with that just go ahead get rid of the whole O staff and actually spend some money getting the guy’s! Defensivly we are almost there in having a high cailber defense! my opinion let some of these W/R’s holy shit how w/r’s do we need go after some O-lineman.And QB issue i say get rid of palko an orton. an get mat barkly or the guy from from baylor (or whoever this year’s draft will be one biggest for QB’s there is no reason why we shouldnt go after a QB an have stanzi as backup! and for Haley he keeps up this crap just let him go dont sugar coat it an go after a no b/s straight shooting coach!!

by dallas_MO on Dec 11, 2011 6:31 PM CST reply actions

deciding factor for me:

4 wins in a row, sitting at 4-3 with two very winnable and possibly even easy wins ahead of us. should have been 6-3 going into MNF at new england, but we get blown out at arrowhead by winlees miami. then we lose to a team who completed 2 passes all day, again at home.

Just like novocaine. give it time; always works..
