Firing Todd Haley after this year would be a horrible mistake IMO. If Scott Pioli were to make this move, I would truly question his GM ability. After all, Haley did lead this team to a playoff appearance as a division champion. Say what you want about easy schedules, but we still one 10 games! Not to mention we played with the Colts, and probably should have won if Dwayne Bowe caught that TD pass. But that's besides the fact.
The Chiefs lost too much too early. First they lost Tony Moeaki, who I think was Cassel's blanket last year. I believe I have heard the term blanket used by color commentators before, and I think it was in the Gonzalez era. Not positive though, please correct me if I'm wrong. But either way, Moeaki was a huge contributor. Then Baldwin settled a set back: not only did he miss half training camp and minicamps because of the lockout, but he missed 6 regular season games and was it 2 preseason games? That's huge for a rookie. Imagine him with a full preseason, a healthy Moeaki, Dwayne Bowe at his finest....NOT THE LAST OFFENSIVE PLAY OF THE STEELERS GAME!.....Steve Breaston before he decided to drop every ball that came his way, Dexter McCluster in the screen game, and Jamaal Charles. That's big right there. Reminds me of the Packers...minus Aaron Rodgers, but I think Cassel could have matched last years numbers, which led us to the playoffs! Jamaal Charles is the BEST player on our team. Offense and Defense, he his our bread and butter. We RUN the ball, it's our strength. Our running game allows Cassel to throw the ball. It makes everything click. Thomas Jones is pathetic. He is good for 2 yards a play, and for Charles catching his breath. Jackie Battle has potential, but not if Charles isn't there to set the edge. Our offense revolves around Jamaal. Everything we do has something to do with him. Even when he wasn't in the game, we were running plays to set up plays for him. Losing him was killer.
As we all know, before Charles was lost, we lost Eric Berry. Berry, like Charles, was a pro bowler. In fact, he was ranked as one of the top 100 players in the NFL as a ROOKIE. Come the end of the season last year, he played lights out. He's a force. He helped so much in the run game. Every game I see a back get in the secondary, I weep for Eric Berry. Reference- Browns game last year when he tackled the blocker and running back behind the line of scrimmage. And he dove in there, it was amazing. Berry played every down for us on defense, and that is super uncommon now a days. He was our Charles on defense. The final straw was losing Matt Cassel. I'm not saying he is a god-send of a quarterback, but he is a hell of a lot better than Tyler Palko. Cassel was and is our team leader. If you doubt this, let's reference last years loss without him, then the Rams game where not only did we win, but Cassel RAN for a 1st down and had one epic fist pump. He fought back from his appendectomy and played. I know his play is at times quite questionable, but he still holds the team together.
Every team suffers injuries. But rarely does a team lose 4 of it's best players for the season and succeed. Reference- Peyton Manning and the Colts. The Chiefs have pieces, there is no doubt. I believe that Eric Berry, Jamaal Charles, and Tony Moeaki- I think Cassel's days in red may be numbered- will come back even better than ever. Haley needs to stay! IF anyone disagrees, please tell me why.
