Week Ten Match-Up: Kansas City Chiefs vs Denver Broncos
Welcome to another weekly breakdown! This week we face a division rival the Denver Broncos. This game is another one of those must win games especially if we have a shot at getting to the playoffs. The Broncos are coming off a decent win against the Oakland Raiders. I wonder if Haley is going to get his team on the right page for this week?
I'll look at the passing, rushing, special teams, and coaching. I'll even look at the x-factor while trying to be as unbiased as possible.
Chiefs QB: Matt Cassel
Broncos QB: Tim Tebow
The Broncos are 31st in the league with 171.2 yards per game through the air. The Chiefs are ranked 27th in the league with 189.5 yards per game through the air. The Broncos defense is ranked 23rd in passing defense allowing 258 yards per game through the air. The Chiefs defense is ranked 21st in passing defense allowing 250.5 yards per game through the air. The Broncos are allowing their opponents this year to complete 66% of their passes. The Broncos are allowing 3 sacks per game. The Chiefs are allowing their opponents this year to complete 60% of their passes. The Chiefs are allowing just over 2 sacks per game. Tim Tebow is only completing 46.4 % of his passes this year. He has 6 touchdowns and 1 interceptions. However, he has been sacked 15 times. Matt Cassel is completing 61% of his passes this year. He has 9 touchdowns and 9 interceptions. Cassel has been sacked 18 times but has started the whole season. The Broncos defense has made 6 interceptions whereas the Chiefs defense has had 13 interceptions.
When The Chiefs Pass: Chiefs
When The Broncos Pass: Chiefs
Chiefs Running Backs: Jackie Battle, Thomas Jones
Broncos Running Backs: Willis McGahee, Knowshon Moreno
The Broncos are 5th in the league in rushing with 147.5 yards per game. The Chiefs are 10th in the league in rushing with 123.3 yards per game. The Broncos defense is 15th in the league allowing 115.5 yards per game on the ground. The Chiefs defense is 19th in the league allowing 120.2 yards per game on the ground. The Broncos opponents this year are averaging 3.9 yards per carry on the ground. The Chiefs opponents this year are averaging 4.1 yards per carry on the ground. The Chiefs also have to do with Tebow on the ground which I'll talk about more later.
When The Chiefs Run: Chiefs
When The Broncos Run: Broncos
Chiefs Special Teams: Ryan Succop, Dustin Colquitt, PR/KR Javier Arenas, Dexter McCluster
Broncos Special Teams: Matt Prater, Britton Colquitt, PR/KR Quan Cosby
This game very might well end up being decided by field position so I'll call this "The Battle Of The Colquitts". Prater has missed 4 field goals this season all over 40 yards. Succop has missed 3 field goals this season. The kickers are pretty much even in this match-up even though Succop has made more in the longer range area. Britton has a 49.8 yard average with 10 punts inside the 20. Dustin has a 46.7 yard average with 11 punts inside the 20. These punters couldn't be closer. The Broncos are averaging 25.6 yards per kick off return and 17.1 yards per punt return. The Chiefs are averaging 23 yards per kick off return and 14.5 yards per punt return. The Broncos coverage team is allowing 23.6 yards per kick off return and 9.5 yards per punt return. The Chiefs coverage team is allowing 20 yards per kick off return and 10.4 yards per punt return. The Broncos have a better return team whereas the coverage team pretty much cancel each other out.
Special Teams: Tie
Chiefs Coaches: Todd Haley, Bill Muir, Romeo Crennel
Broncos Coaches: John Fox, Mike McCoy, Dennis Allen
The Chiefs are tied for first with 4 wins and 4 losses. The Chiefs coaches have fought adversity winning 4 in a row only to have a blowout loss last week against the Dolphins. The Broncos have won 3 games so far. The coaching staff thought it would be a good idea to bench Kyle Orton and play Tim Tebow. So far it has worked in some areas. I'll give this to the Chiefs based on the season so far. If the Chiefs don't show up this game then I don't see the Chiefs coaches winning too many more match-ups.
Coaching: Chiefs
The Chiefs are at home for the 3rd week in a row. So they should be well rested. They also should play better against a division opponent. The Broncos are fresh of a win in position to move up in a weaker division. I'll give the x - factor to the Broncos just because Tim Tebow. It's hard enough to stop McGahee this year without worrying about Tebow taking off with the ball and running with it. Tebow has averaged over 7 yards per carry when he takes off with it. If the Chiefs contain Tebow then it will be a good day.
X - Factor: Broncos
I am 5-3 this season in picking the Chiefs game. I like the fact that the Chiefs are at home and were brought back to reality last week. I also like the fact that Tebow isn't great at throwing the ball. I hate the fact that the Broncos are good at rushing the ball and are hungry for a win. This is a very hard game to pick.
Winner: Chiefs

First posted saying this was week nine. Late night too lazy to delete this post and make a new one.
That URL always gets ya!

I was once fired from a job two days after I waited on Matt Cassel and his wife Lauren Killian. Totally my AP moment to remember. Unfortunately also one of my stupidest moments.

Unless we play like last week....
Then the crowd is completely out of the game and actually works against our team with Boos. WTF is up with that anyway?? We did get blown out but it doesn’t help the players at all to hear their home town crown boo them off of the field.

If they don't want to hear boos they should play better
They have complete control over it.
Standing on the corner in a white Godfather hat. He drives a long black gangster Cadillac. He can steal a broads mind, man, in three or four minutes. It’s not how long you talk, brother, it’s what you put in it.
Exactly
When they do good, we cheer like no other. But it goes both ways and rightfully so. But if I had a choice of having our fans or Tebow., Our fans 100

these are grown-ass men, not kindergarteners.
If the Chiefs are playing like shit, the paying customers have every right to let them hear all about it.
D-Bowe says: "THAT'S MY BIKE, PUNK!!!!"
I guess it comes down to whether you are
a paying customer at an entertainment event or a fan. I can see each perspective but booing is only going to make things worse on the field.

After making M.Moore look like a great QB last weekend
This team will find a way to make Timmy look elite. The Chiefs will loss this game and only get 2 more wins from this point on in the season.

Can you give me a swing game?
If we win 4 then I was a douche.

Using season stats on the Broncos offense ...
… can’t be trusted just because the Orton and Tebow are so different. The big question is whether the zone read formula that worked against the Raiders will continue to be effective for the Broncos’ offense.
Maya: "What are your first impressions of Denver?"
Mozgov: "I must break you..."
Lets do what the Bronco fans did and Boo Cassel until they start Stanzi.
I’m done waiting on Cassel to improve or step up his game he is what he is, a game manager. Lets find out what Stanzi has from this point on so we know if we need to make QB the #1 pick in the draft. This organization has year after year, decade after decade went with someone back-up and hoped and prayed he could improve to be good enough to lead this team. When we do have a good QB organization is too tight to spend the extra money to put us over the top. Anyways rant over and I just want to say that I would never boo my QB, not cool in my book.

agree
its been excuse after excuse. first its was a bad o line giving up to much pressure. Then it was not enough quality WRs. now he has both those issues fixed and is still the same old, inconsistent, average QB
KC Draft prediction: No OT taken in first round

The O Line is still bad in spots
but Cassel is still inconsistent. We are pretty good at WR though :)
Yeah the o-line is young and in need of a better RT.
C.Weis knew what to do with Cassel weak points and called plays that helped him out. Weis is why Cassel threw for 27 TDs and 7 INTs last year. Is it too much to ask for a QB that can come to the line of scrimmage, see a blitz coming and change the play accordingly. The other thing that’s pissing me off, is the failure at halftime to change things up or adjust to what the our teams doing.

no Weis wasn't the reason
the reason was a dominant run game and weakest schedule possible
