Cassel deserves some props for today's loss.

Okay, I'm a bit surprised that Cassel is being ripped for his performance today. He largely played some dang gutsy football today behind an extremely porous offensive line. At times, it looked like he was the only one trying. It was certainly no thanks to the defense today. Cassel deserves props for trying to get something going when he had no reason to trust in his o line today, and for putting his body on the line while doing it.

I can’t tell if this is a joke or if you actually believe it…

"Hater" is a term used by weak-minded people in the face of legitimate criticism.

by JComp11 on Nov 6, 2011 9:06 PM CST via mobile reply actions

No he didn't

Miami has a TERRIBLE pass defense and was without their best defensive back. I’ll give credit where credit is due, but once again, Cassel played poorly….missed open recievers, locked into Bowe, got happy feet, and had no pocket presence….same ol’ MC.

Sure the Oline didn’t play well, but I’ll give them a mulligan as this is the first game all year I think they’ve played poorly.

Lock on to Bowe.

That’s the typical thing said when there’s nothing at all to say. Your post is 100% accurate.

by bossmanham on Nov 6, 2011 9:45 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

I was at the game and i saw him miss wide open guys

waaaay more than a couple times. There were times where he was under too much pressure to get it to them but also a ton where he just doesnt see them. He ran a bunch of times when he couldve threw. Plus the inaccurate throws. He’s mediocre at best

by chiefFANatic on Nov 6, 2011 9:49 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Agreed

Matt looked like the only guy trying out there, they weren’t blocking for him that’s for sure!

by cpa913 on Nov 6, 2011 11:21 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

If what I said was an exaggeration, then so is this.

I never claimed Cassel was perfect. I will claim that he should not bear the brunt of the criticism, and that he should receive props for what I cited here.

by bossmanham on Nov 6, 2011 11:32 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

This is Cassel's big flaw

When he consistently has time to drop back & scan the field he’s a good QB. BUT, once he gets it in the back of his mind that he’s got to be prepared to scramble, he falls apart. I assume it’s largely due to his trying to rush throws & his mechanics getting messed up because of it.

I just know that if the team wants to be contending for a Super Bowl, we either need a QB who can play under pressure, or an OL that can stand up to big, strong defenses.

I don't even like Cassel

But I can give him credit when he’s the only guy who showed up to play.

by KC_Chiefs on Nov 6, 2011 9:31 PM CST up reply actions

He just doesn't have it...

Cassel is missing open receivers all over the place. I hate when they show the downfield pictures because it seems as though there is always someone open. So it isn’t the receivers fault. Cassel just doesn’t have the vision or the accuracy to be a great QB. Cassel has gotten better as a QB but I don’t think he will ever have the accuracy, you usually either have it or you don’t…He doesn’t go through his reads, can’t make all the throws, gets happy feet. His decision making is terrible. Just before half time, he throws the ball to Breaston who is not even close to the endzone. It is a jump ball situation, throw it up let someone make a play. I would love to see someone try and out jump Jonathan Baldwin in the endzone…

by BIGGESTCHIEFSFAN on Nov 6, 2011 9:20 PM CST reply actions

In the second half, he had recievers open...

but he had been seriously rattled at that point.

by cpa913 on Nov 6, 2011 11:22 PM CST up reply actions

Gutsy QB play doesn't win games

Unless you can complete passes and move the ball downfield. The second half seemed to fix the protection issues but his play didn’t improve. He should have 1 pick in the statline from when he overthrew Baldwin terribly and it bounced of the safety’s chest. Also he flat out missed Baldwin on a fade in the end zone. Ughhh gets me mad all over again thinking about it

by RamX21 on Nov 6, 2011 9:25 PM CST via mobile reply actions

Never said he was perfect today.

But he wasn’t the biggest issue by far. I don’t blame him for being rattled after being sacked five freaking times.

by bossmanham on Nov 6, 2011 9:48 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

Admittedly, I didn't watch much of this game after about halfway through the 3rd qtr..

But it looked to me like the OLine mailed it in. Everyone on this site is abundantly aware of Cassel’s limitations. One of those being keeping his composure in the face of constant pressure.

I didn't say that either.

You can straw man all you want though.

by bossmanham on Nov 6, 2011 11:34 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

No, what you are saying though is poppycock

We should give credit to Cassel for playing today and not benching himself because things weren’t going very well? Take a step back and really look at the point of your fanshot. You can’t seriously think anyone would just give him a pass because he did one of the bare minimum things we would expect from our starting QB: suit up and take every snap??? Come on now

I'm so overrated, I'm underrated.

by RememberDelaney37 on Nov 7, 2011 6:30 AM CST via mobile up reply actions

No, I want to give him credit for trying to make plays when the O-line oled a good bit of the first half.

I never said he deserves absolutely no criticism. I think it needs to be fair and balanced, not focus on Cassel and destroy him.

by bossmanham on Nov 7, 2011 9:46 AM CST up reply actions

So if you don’t believe that where is your fanshot giving other people some credit?

"Hater" is a term used by weak-minded people in the face of legitimate criticism.

by JComp11 on Nov 7, 2011 8:06 AM CST up reply actions

I wasn't focusing on anyone else but Cassel here.

In that case it’s irrelevant who else I think deserves credit. It’s clearly a team loss in a team sport. But people here want to crucify one guy. I’m putting this out there to bring some balance.

by bossmanham on Nov 7, 2011 9:47 AM CST up reply actions

I’m reading comments on a post ABOUT Cassel. If you want talk of how poorly the line played go to Bewsaf’s. Even he stated that the QB deserves some of the blame for the sacks, not fucking credit for running around like an idiot.

And discounts that the hot route may have been covered.

But when you point out where I said Cassel was perfect, you let me know.

Fact is it’s the o-line’s job to give the QB more than a second to set his feet and pass the ball. 80% of qb’s in this league will struggle like Cassel did when running for their lives all game. Bewsaf isn’t infallible any more than I am.

by bossmanham on Nov 7, 2011 10:03 AM CST up reply actions

You're 100% right

In that first half our line was getting abused and Cassel harassed. They were sending the kitchen sink at times, overload blitzes. The line really can’t do anything against that but if the QB beats them with quick accurate throws it stops them from sending the house like that

by RamX21 on Nov 6, 2011 10:40 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

That's what you do to rattle MC

Blitz him early and often. My favourite QB’s against the blitz were Warner and Favre. You don’t blitz those guys because they will kill you with the one-one-ones, quick trigger, accuracy and pocket poise. All things Matty doesn’t have.

There. All the credit he deserves for the last few weeks

by RememberDelaney37 on Nov 6, 2011 10:28 PM CST via mobile reply actions   1 recs

I agree 100%

This was not Cassel’s fault. He was being killed thanks to no Offensive line. Normally I would rip Cassel but when you are running for your life, you make mistakes. I was saying put Palko in there to give Cassel a chance to catch his breath.

What was out there was not the Chiefs.

by Casey Byron Adkins on Nov 6, 2011 11:12 PM CST reply actions

Agreed

Why didn’t we see Palko in this game? Matt could have gone down, and then we would be seriously screwed!

We are already out of the Suck for Luck conversation, 4-12 does nobody any good.

by cpa913 on Nov 6, 2011 11:27 PM CST up reply actions

Hmm.

The offensive line got killed in the trenches almost every play in the second half. Cassel did run and moved the chain a few times when he escaped. That is one thing that I’ll give Cassel props for. He also hit the WR’s a few times in the hands and they dropped it. I’ll give Cassel props for those throws.

In the second half Cassel was already rattled badly at that point. They were sending 4 men and still getting back to him sometimes. He made some bad throws in which he should get the blame especially during a 4 man rush.

All in all the game against the Dolphins is 80% O Line 15% Cassel 5% WR’s. We just didn’t look good as A TEAM. People can hand on individuals all they want but the fact remains. We could have had Bree’s as our QB and I’m not so sure it would have made a difference. The Rams brought the heat and the Saints lost against them a few weeks back. That’s the NFL boys.

by Chiefsfan85 on Nov 7, 2011 12:10 AM CST reply actions

Saints drop one game against a shit team, is an abberation

Cassel shits the bed multiple games this year and we get blown out. I’m honestly surprised more teams haven’t come to the conclusion that, to beat the Chiefs, blitz often and early. Rattle Cassel. make him have doubts and he craps himself.

This isn't the worst game

Cassel has had this year. However, it is the worst game I’ve seen from the offensive line.

by Chiefsfan85 on Nov 7, 2011 3:41 AM CST up reply actions

I have no problem "ripping" Cassel when he fucks up...

But seriously guys, what game did you watch today? How is Cassel being the AP whipping boy, when our defense looked fucking terrrrrrrrible. The entire defense played like a massive bag of ballsacks. Out of position, getting burned, running into eachother, on the ground, wtf. Cassel shouldnt get a gold star by any means, but this bashing is ridiculous. Side thought though, why didn’t they put palko in late in the 4th when it was obvious victory was not going to happen?

No my brain can't comprehend such a wild idea.

I also can’t comprehend bashing cassel when he was running for his life all day, and had zero turnovers. The o-line was effective not.

by Chef's Kitchen on Nov 7, 2011 6:45 AM CST up reply actions

As I've been told before

You can’t compare the 2 because everyone knows Rodgers is better. Air tight rebuttal I know.

by RamX21 on Nov 7, 2011 8:48 AM CST via mobile up reply actions

If there's any aberration in this league, it's the uber elite level that Rodgers is playing at.

The guy is the best period. Better than Tom, better than Peyton, better than Favre, better than Rapelessberger. You can’t stop him.

by bossmanham on Nov 7, 2011 9:50 AM CST up reply actions

He is unreal.

He does it with a shit O-Line and almost no running game. He’s easily the best QB in the game right now

by RamX21 on Nov 7, 2011 10:06 AM CST up reply actions

I'd say best ever.

I’ve never seen anything like it.

by bossmanham on Nov 7, 2011 10:08 AM CST up reply actions

best ever is a little high praise at this point, give defensive coordinators a little time to try and figure him out.

That being said I can’t think of any QB that i’ve ever seen play at a higher level than this. Well maybe Brady in ’07

KCQB#7 playts like a scared pussy...

look at the difference between him and Bad Touch Ben yesterday. Ben was feeling just as much heat yet he keeps his head up, moves in the pocket and makes a play. KCQB#7 feels the heat, puts his head down and takes the sack.

by HIV 2 Elway on Nov 7, 2011 9:09 AM CST reply actions

Didn't make many plays till late in the game.

Also, Cassel made plays too. Don’t act like the offense didn’t move the ball. They did. They never sealed the deal, but they moved it several times.

by bossmanham on Nov 7, 2011 9:51 AM CST up reply actions

Big Ben is 6'5' and 250

and plays for a team with six rings and multiple playoff and Super Bowl berths… a better team around him than the polished turd you credit Peterson giving Cassel.

Matt Cassel has about 47 NFL starts to his credit, some college special teams play, and some high school ball. Oh, and the All-Pro O-Line Trent Green played behind is long gone, whether y’all wanna admit it or not.

Played a good first quarter and played well for the first 7 minutes of the 2nd quarter...

Cassel does deserve some props

for today’s (Sunday’s) loss. He is the QB. He should take the heat.

He didn’t break Baldwin’s thumb, but he should take the heat for that, too.

by neiowakcfan on Nov 8, 2011 1:50 AM CST reply actions

Matt is below average

He has been consistently inconsistent. The year we traded for him he had almost the same numbers as Tyler Thigpen. He often misses open recievers!!! I am sorry that players drop balls but that does not give him an excuse to be largely inaccurate and scared when there is pressure. He also locks in to whom he wats to pass to down the field. I don’t think he uses a third or forth read even when he has time. What is Jim Zorn supposed to be helping him with? He needs to work on his accuracy.

Part of the bigger picture is that our GM is lazy. He traded for Matt Cassel because that is what all GM’s do. They all pull people from their old team. The Matt Cassel experience has failed. He is a career backup and not a winner. I believed that we were getting a progressive GM that will find diamonds in the rough but the truth is NO ONE is scared of Matt Cassel, Tyson Jackson or Dexter McCluster. Matt cannot help the running game because he cannot pass accurately for more than ten yards.

He ranks between on 18-25 for most of the quaterbacks important statistics. passing yards, completion percentage, touchdowns and quarterback ratings. He is a below average quarterback.

by Cheflove2 on Nov 13, 2011 7:13 PM CST reply actions

The only place where Matt Cassel

is a good QB is in the comments section of this website. I know the O-Line leaks like an old house, Bowe has slippery hands (trade him) and there is no running game to help him.

Cassel adds nothing to the team unless everyone else is playing well. When the line blocks well, after having not done so all game, Cassel has an excuse to never be accurate and it is accepted by most. He has to make plays when given the opportunity, but if all doesn’t go perfect, then Cassel has an “out” from the fans for his many poor performances, without any improvement in sight.

by chief66 on Nov 15, 2011 11:24 AM CST reply actions

Are you serious. Seen Bowe make some spectaclar catches. Bowe is the least of KC’s problems.
