Philip Rivers On The Supposed 'Worst Day Ever' Comment

"Worst day ever."

TV cameras picked up Philip Rivers mouthing what we believed to be those words on Monday Night Football between the Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers. This coming right after the fumble.

Rivers talked to reporters on Wednesday, a few days after the media has had time to eat those words up, and the (other) AP clarified the supposed "Worst day ever" remarks.

"I didn't say that. I don't know if I ever said that. It wasn't the worst day ever. It may have been the worst play I've ever been a part of, but it wasn't the worst day," Rivers said.

But it had to be a pretty bad day. Like, really bad.

Video of the alleged "Worst day ever" quote is after the jump. Any lip readers in the house?

Interesting

how he didn’t clarify what he said then. You would think he would tell what he said. hmm, maybe what he said was worse and doesn’t want anyone to know.

You could be right.

It could be he’s watching their defense and saying, “Worst D ever”. He certainly wouldn’t want to admit that.

I agree. His lips dont close to make the "P" sound

(try and say “Day” without closing your lips and you will understand).

I have hearing problems and do read lips.

As soon as I seen it live I felt he said “worst day ever”. Hard to tell with a GIF becasue the speed is not correct. I don’t doubt he doesn’t remember saying it though. Just a heat of the moment comment.

I disagree

I’d take him considering we’ve got the 3B’s…..especially against Green Bay.

Matter of fact I’d give them Cassel, Sabby, & McGraw…..with the stipulation that all 3 start and have a X number of snaps when playing us :)

by slackator on Nov 3, 2011 11:31 AM CDT up reply actions

I agree.

There’s something wrong with that team. The locker room is immature, and I think Rivers is a big part of it. He couldn’t win with the NFL’s best offense and defense. He couldn’t win with Shawne Merriman, Ladainian Tomlinson and Antonio Gates in their prime.

I don’t want him anywhere near this team unless it’s in the opposite colors phumbling snaps on game winning drives. He’s poison.

Cassel's first year starting he looked like Brady

What makes you think Rivers would be awesome in the chiefs offense? I would keep Matt over anyone right now, esp after he threw down the field, over and over in OT for the win when RIVERS COULD NOT!!!

Honestly the last word looks much closer to "have" or "half"

Probably something along the lines of “Worst thing to have” – still probably referencing the fumble (if I had to guess?)

But “worst day ever” just works.

He obviously said "Worst day ever"

And the fact that he either doesn’t remember it or is just denying it makes it even funnier.

by Tomahawk29 on Nov 3, 2011 10:30 AM CDT reply actions   1 recs

He should have just outright said:

“Yes. That was the worst day ever. I was called “Phyllis” roughly 100 times by Chiefs fans, my nerves were shot because of fireworks, and it was way past my bedtime. And I made the worst possible mistake a QB could ever commit at the worst possible time . I’d say it was a pretty fucking bad day. Next question."

by Tomahawk29 on Nov 3, 2011 10:33 AM CDT up reply actions   2 recs

But I think it was actually smart to answer how he did.

With the way some people these days FREAK OUT about everything, a football player making millions of dollars proclaiming it the worst day ever because he dropped a ball has the potential to get really out of hand.

He’s not saying “day” or “play”.

And if he was saying “day”, he wouldn’t be saying “It was the worst day ever” in the past tense. He’d be using present tense. He’d be saying “This is the worst day ever”. Which he’s not.

by Tomahawk29 on Nov 3, 2011 11:00 AM CDT up reply actions   1 recs

It is odd he said "was".

But make a “th” sound. Your tongue just slightly goes outside of your teeth, you would be able to just barely see the tip of someone’s tongue if they made a “th” sound. You can’t here. He completely closes his teeth together. That’s what you do when you make “D” sound.

i believe he said Day

When you say thing, your mouth kind of closes as when you say Day your mouth never really closes, his mouth never really closed also you can see his tongue moving from the top of his mouth to the bottom, TH sound you use more of your teeth and not the roof of your mouth…

by BlackDoom on Nov 3, 2011 11:35 AM CDT reply actions   1 recs

Based on 2 INT, a Fumble and No TD against a division Rival

with that kind of performance i would say worst day ever also… but unless your toothless you use your teeth when you say the TH sound… also will have to agree when you say Thing, the corners of your mouth pucker up a smidge while day they extend out, his lips never puckered at the corner…

either way these players and coaches seem to not remember a thing from these games… first you have Cassel and Haley saying they don’t remember what they were arguing about, sorry but if i get mad enough that my face turns red and i start yelling, then i will remember what was said the next day let alone after the game… Surprising these players can remember a huge playbook, but not something that happened 10 minutes to 3 hours ago…
