The Kansas City Chiefs WILL Take the AFCW

The Kansas City Chiefs were once in the race for Andrew Luck and barring an utter meltdown and improvement by the 13 teams behind them in the Power Rankings, they are not going to get him.

And that title is not deceiving as I seriously believe that they will defend that title.  I am going to do it by breaking down the four teams.

Star-divide

Teams in the AFCW:

  1. Raiders: After the royal ass whipping the Chiefs gave them in week 7, the Raiders find them trying to sew their season back together.  With Brodie Croyle disguised as Kyle Boller, Terrell Pryor and Carson Palmer as their QB's.  Throw in the fact that Darren McFadden can't stay healthy and you have a recipe for disaster.  They have Bush as another RB but he can only do so much.  The Raiders still have the reigning Super Bowl Champs, the Bears, the Chargers twice, the newly rejuvenated Vikings and the Chiefs left, I don't see how they come out of this better than 7-9.  If Jackie Battle can put up almost 100 yards, Adrian Peterson is going to have a field day.  Unless they try and beef that secondary up, Aaron Rodgers is going to pick them a part.
  2. Broncos- I am going to make this quick.  Tebow is a bust.  Once one of the most feared teams in the NFL, the donkeys are going to find themselves in the cellar.  NEXT!!!
  3. Chargers- Where in the blue and yellow hell do I start with this team.  Only the Chargers could screw a snap up.  I said that they would choke but damn they coughed a hair ball.  If they were unable to stop the Jets and the Patriots, there is no way they stop the Bills.  They also still have the Lions, who have picked AFC West teams out of their teeth.  I am going to enjoy the killing Rodgers and the Packers put on them.  If Phyllis thought Monday was the worst day ever, he is going flip his lid come Sunday.  Someone please tell me how a team with this much talent can't complete a simple snap!!!  The team is worn down and under coached.  They are a shell of their former selves and are not seeing the playoffs this year.  If Rivers was having issues against the Chiefs front seven, the Jaguars Defense is going to rip them to shreds.

And now our Kansas City Chiefs.

They spent really the first two weeks in the cellar.  Then they show life against the Chargers.  They go on to beat the Vikings, a comeback against the Colts, a royal beatdown of the Faiders and overcome the odds and beat the Chargers and the officiating crew (g-damn that was bad).

With the Dolphins coming to town this team should be sitting at 5-3 soon but we (The Chiefs and fans) need to remember that we were in the same position they were.  We were hungry for a win and now they are.

5-3 baby, 5-3

Here is how I 'think' it will shake out...

Week 9 Sun, Nov 6 Home vs Miami (0-7): WIN
Record 5-3, I agree this will be a nail biter, but we pull it out.

Week 10 Sun, Nov 13 Home vs Denver (2-5) WIN
Record 6-3, Denver has to many holes.

Week 11 Mon, Nov 21 New England Patriots @ New England (5-2) LOSS
Record 6-4, We are a good team, but not good enough to take out the Pats IN New England.

Week 12 Sun, Nov 27 Home vs Pittsburgh (6-2) 8 WIN
Record 7-4, This is a personal game for Coach Haley, he beat them the year we went 4-12, we play at home. I smell upset!

Week 13 Sun, Dec 4 Chicago Bears @ Chicago (4-3) WIN
Record 8-4, Chicago has O-Line issues, and the “Killer B’s” will sting this Defense.

Week 14 Sun, Dec 11 New York Jets @ NY Jets (4-3) WIN
Record 9-4, This team can be beat.

Week 15 Sun, Dec 18 Home vs Green Bay (7-0) LOSS
Record 10-4, I really think we will win this game, but they are the Champs and if I say we win I will get laguhed off the board.

Week 16 Sat, Dec 24 Home vs Oakland (4-3) LOSS
Record 10-5, This team will be PISSED (after getting shut-out at home) and looking for payback BIG TIME.

Week 17 Sun, Jan 1 Denver Broncos @ Denver (2-5) WIN
Record 11-5, We will finish the season strong and head into the playoffs coming off a WIN.

I think we ‘could’ finish as good as 12-4, and as poor as 8-8. Even if we ‘only’ get to 8-8…with the schedule THIS season, for THIS team (w/o Berry, Charles, Moeaki), is overachiveing IMO.

Re: GB

I keep thinking that nothing would be more awesome than if Green Bay were undefeated when we played them and we won. I know it’s slim, but I’m hopeful that it can happen.

Also, unless Carson Palmer really turns it on fast, I think we can beat the Raiders twice. It’s hard to lose when they hand 15 yards to you every play.

True about the Raiders

But still, they always manage to really get up to play the games at Arrowhead. I swear we play them better at Oakland, and they play us better at KC.

I’d love to kill them a second time though. Really.

your math is off

Your prediction would be 10-6

If we beat Pittsburgh, Chicago, and the Jets all in a row we will go to the Super Bowl.

I was once fired from a job two days after I waited on Matt Cassel and his wife Lauren Killian. Totally my AP moment to remember. Unfortunately also one of my stupidest moments.

You claimed the GB game as a loss

and then credited KC with a win in the record. So, Week 15’s record should read 9-5, Week 16 read 9-6, and Week 17 10-5. Other than that I’d make the Jets game a loss. I think they’re beatable, I just have this feeling about it. Like, we could beat them, but in the end it’s not gonna happen. However, I think we beat Oakland Week 16, mostly because I don’t travel half way across the country to watch my team lose.

It's college basketball season. As always, GO CHIEFS and GO DAWGS.

I was feeling confident about making the playoffs, until you put that schedule up and reminded me how ugly it is.

I think thewy have a chance, but we need the rest of the teams in the West to stumble (which is possible) and hope 9 or 10 wins takes the division.

We need to sweep DEN and the Raiders and beat Miami. I would feel a lot better if the Jets and Bears games were in KC.

Brady hasn’t lost a home game since 2006, so hopefully we can be record breakers.
Steelers game is winnable in Arrowhead

The good news is if they make the playoffs with this schedule, they will be prepared for the playoffs. If they can beat some of these other playoff teams in the home stretch, they can beat these same teams in route to Indy.

Heh...
Brady hasn’t lost a home game since 2006, so hopefully we can be record breakers.

What about this season makes you think the Chiefs aren’t out to break some of the most obscure stats in the NFL?

Worst start in franchise history. Second worst start in NFL history.
First team since the 2000 Steelers to go 4-0 after starting 0-3.
Fastest team to take first place in their division after starting 0-3.
Almost tied franchise record for single game INTs.

As it stands we have a real shot at being the first team to ever start 0-3 and win their next 6 in a row. If that happens then I see no reason to believe that KC won’t be the first team to beat The Patriots in NE since 2006.

Records are made to be broken and KC is having their way with them.

Oh, yeah, almost forgot:

First Chiefs team to ever shutout OAK at home.

by Tomahawk29 on Nov 3, 2011 11:27 AM CDT up reply actions

Ah, I see you choose to accept the kiss of death at 13-3

You realize there is some universal law or principle that prohibits the Chiefs from further success once 13-3 has been realized, correct?

RE: The Chargers

All I keep hearing when people, whether it be national media or fellow AFC West fans, talk about the chargers is “the underachieving talent”. Frankly, it’s getting a bit overhyped in my opinion. That team has never been significantly more talented than the league average IMO and only appeared that way for awhile in part due to Marty Schottenheimer’s coaching prowess and after his departure, in part due to general AFCW weakness. They have an above-average but less than great QB (and this season, he’s not even above average, but I never considered him great due to his mechanical flaws and lack of clutch factor). Their RBs have been declining since LTs last season there and Matthews and Tolbert, while a good combo, are hardly elite. Their OLine is probably around the league average at this point and getting a little long in the tooth. Their defense is far from intimidating, and though occassionally solid in the turnover department, isn’t the kind that opponents dread playing. Their WRs are good, big physical types, but I think there are a lot of teams that boast comparable WR corps.

I simply don’t see them as a team that is infinitely more talented than the league as a whole. Moreover, I think talent is the most overhyped aspect in football. The NFL is built to be a parity league, when you suck and you’re losing because of limited talent, you are rewarded with higher picks in order to close that gap. There are maybe a handful of teams I’d say are less talented than the average (CLE and IND come to mind) and maybe a handful that are more talented (GB and PITT come to mind). But beyond that, I’d say a lot of teams are roughly similar on a talent level (excluding QB because a single elite QB like a Brady or Brees can make an otherwise average team look great).

You can't spell Power without Powe.

agreed

they do have some talented players (Jackson, Floyd, Rivers, Phililps)
but, not any more than any other team, really

by stagdsp on Nov 3, 2011 12:18 PM CDT up reply actions

They were much more dangerous

with the young LT. Gates is getting overweight and is more easily covered. Their sack master left the game long ago. Their really living off hype and Rivers at this time.

by chief66 on Nov 3, 2011 12:30 PM CDT up reply actions

I agree, but disagree with one thing

I believe the chargers WERE more talented than a lot of other teams, definitely way above league avg

cromartie was getting 10 picks, merriman was sacking the QB

quite frankly, they had a great 2-3 drafts…and havent had the success since, not to mention players have walked, or regressed.

I blame the coaching, and honestly, I think the leaadership of rivers must be questioned

The Chiefs should win the West

The only sure loss is GB and we may surprise them. We’ll lose at least two more though. 10-6 can win the West, but need to stay at 11-5 to clinch it.

Chiefs vs Miami

This game realley scares me, Chiefs kick ass against good teams but play like its a easy win against bad teams and usually pay for it, If they want this win., they better go in to this game deep sea fishing and hope the line doesnt break. GO CHIEFS !!!!!1

by Kcbarbecuer on Nov 3, 2011 12:50 PM CDT reply actions

Miami is always tough for KC

I was hoping the phinless would get their win against the Giants and be ready to lose to us. They may be really beat-up after that tough Giant game and not have enough to overcome us.
