Maybe Romeo has a plan. Many of you have blasted him for the way he has used Houston, but what if it is all part of a greater plan, to make him more than a one trick pony.
Bear with me here. Early on in the season houston was used more for ccoverage and run support than for rushing the passer. The cries went out OH WHY, WHY USE HIM THIS WAY? The answer, to make him a complete player. From what I have read, he did very well in coverage with his speed and athleticism, so lesson learned.
He spent a lot of time in defensive alingments to stop the run. Ealy on he failed misserably, but as the season progressed, so did this aspect of his game. Thouhg not a stud at run stopping he has improved dramatically at it and setting the edge. Lesson in progress and making progress.
Last he finally let him do what we knew he could, the thing that came natural, rush the QB, which he did doing well Sunday, although his biggest failing is approaching the QB he needs to be more under control rather than rum past him.
Romeo is cloning another Vrabel, making Houston learn the parts of his game that needed work first, and concentrating on those areas, not trying to make him take on to much????
Think about it. Although winning the game is important, we all know playing rookies is not the best way to win as a rule, you bring them allong slowly and make them work and concentra on the aspects of the game that needs work.
If he had turned him loose right of the bat rushing the passer, he might have had some success enthrilled the fan base but become a one trick pony, but with the fans loving him, for it, Houston might have become uncoachable, to the other parts of his game.
To back up my statement here, look at Hali, has anyone noticed the improvement in his run support. Dramaticlaly better as the season goes on. Also his coverage has improved dramatically. both were commented on during Sundays game, especailly his run defense!!!
As we have all heard before, for Romeos defense to work all player need to be able to do it all well, thusly when that is achieved then you can do many more things. Just when the other team thinks wow we hot to stop Hali, boom here comes Houston, damn now we have to double him, boom here comes DJ. Once they are guesing since the heat can come from anywhere, the defense now has the advantage. Then you can also begin to do exotic alignments while keeping the same players on the field. Hell how would you like to come up to the line of scrimmage and not know who to block. Maybe all the sudden Hali is in DJ's spot DJ and Houston are on the edge, who coming, and from where???
Just my two cents.
P.S. Did anyone notice how POWE played Sunday??? or did he even get in the game??
