Moves Pioli needs to make...

  1. Draft Matt Barkley
  2. Trade Glenn Dorsey to ATL for their 2nd Round Pick
  3. Draft an OL, S and or NT in the 2nd Round. (REVISED)
  4. Sign Calais Campbell via Free Agency
  5. Re-Sign Kyle Orton as a backup (if not, keep Matt Cassel)

Agree with 1 and 2

1) Draft a QB – Best QB to fit current system. Let Barkley and Stanzi fight it out. Loser becomes Backup.
2) COMPLETELY AGREE! Replace Dorsey with Gordon, the dude is a monster. 2 sacks in 2 games, what has Dorsey done?

2 THINGS

I think Haley is gone. I like him, but he’s extremely prideful and it’s going to get him fired. Scott Pioli is just as if not more prideful than Haley.. The difference? Pioli is the boss. Now, with Haley gone (talking future tense), our new head coach is going to want a new QB. Pioli will agree and pick the QB… I DO believe that there is a “Patriot Way”/ “Scott Pioli Mold” QB, and it isn’t RGIII. We’re not getting Luck, so next in line is Matt Barkley.

I love Glenn Dorsey. I wish he was 40 lbs heavier and could play NT. I admire how solid he played at the 3-4 DE position, but he is just really playing out of position. I could truly see him succeed in Atlanta at DT. And with the relationshop between Pioli and Dimitroff, this could very well happen.

I like Gordon as a depth player, but I think Campbell comes in and replaces Dorsey. 25 years old, 6’8 310 lbs. 50 tackles, 5 sacks, 1 FF, 1 INT, 5 Pass Deflections.. The guy is awesome.

There is a fly in the ointment. The sh*t has hit the fan. The lion will speak.

good thoughts

I would hate to see Dorsey go, but if they could get good value, I’d be fine with it

Campbell would be a nice replacement, but I’m not sold on Winn… or the need for another DE, if they replace Dorsey with Campbell.

Another year of development for Jackson, Bailey, Powe, Bair, Gilberry (if he stays) should be good for the DE spot.

I would look for KC to grab someone else that can play NT or DE… they like that versatility for the backups, and hopefully will have Powe starting at NT

I’d draft Barkley, Luck or RGIII, whichever is available… then focus on one or two good OL picks along with an ILB, TE and S depth.

something like:
1) RGIII
2) Kelechi Osemele (could play G or T)
2) Alameda Ta’amu (could play NT or DE)
3) Robert Lester, FS
4) Ladarius Green, TE
5) Matt Reynolds, OT
6) Brandon Bolden, RB
7) Jerry Franklin, ILB

by stagdsp on Nov 28, 2011 2:39 PM CST reply actions

I agree with you, man... Thanks

If Tyson can develop, awesome… Otherwise, I would LOVE Campbell & Bailey to be our D-Ends, with Powe in the middle. It’s obvious that Campbell can rush the passer even in a 3-4 defense (which is what the Cardinals has gone to) with 5 sacks on the season. So, with Campbell & Hali on one end and a better Justin Houston + a better Allen Bailey on the other, we could suddenly have one of the youngest and talented defensive fronts in the league.

I hope for Barkley in the 1st… And if we would trade Dorsey for a 2nd, I would love to get another NT, OL, or S in the 2nd round.

Oh and I think Gillberry is gone. :(

Jackson’s well on his way to being a good player for the Chiefs. He’s had a good year.

"Hater" is a term used by weak-minded people in the face of legitimate criticism.

by JComp11 on Nov 28, 2011 3:03 PM CST up reply actions

The only thing I don't get about Jackson...

Is that he is the only player to be ineffective at getting that much push…

I don’t get how he can push an O-lineman all over the place, but the Chiefs can’t take advantage of it.

it's hard to tell

but, offenses can’t really run through him, and he does attract the double teams like he should… hopefully, Houston’s development allows them to take advantage more

I also wonder (as evidenced by Belchers swing and miss on Ben) if a better SILB would take advantage of the gaps opened by Jackson and Gregg

I think Linebacker is the biggest hole on the entire team... Even more than QB...

But positional value will probably dictate the draft more than need.

but, I think he could be very good at that DE/NT spot that Romeo seems to really like

by stagdsp on Nov 28, 2011 3:41 PM CST up reply actions

Stick him at DE in our scheme and let him develop

Could be Ngata-esqe, he needs to work on his hand placement as well as how high in his stance he gets, which is one main reason I do not like him as a NT, but at DE he would have a little more room to grow and would give us a lot of options of running a almost 3-3-5

Why do you think Dorsey is not worth a 2nd?

I figure his worth is about a 2nd Round pick going to a 4-3 defense, at a position to which they’re lacking in. If we were trading him to a 3-4 defense as a DE, he’s 4th MAYBE a 3rd.

by R2J_24 on Nov 28, 2011 2:57 PM CST up reply actions

Plus...

The value that Atlanta receives for a late 2nd Round pick (given that they make the playoffs), in Dorsey is totally worth it. They would get a proven player, who OBVIOUSLY plays MUCH better as a 4-3 DT, with 4 years of NFL experience… In my opinion, that is worth a late 2nd Round pick.

That is a SERIOUS overstatement.

Plus, what part of “out of position” don’t you understand? Not trying to be rude, but ofcourse he’s not gonna take over the line the way he did in college, at the most non-glamorous/ unappreciated position in football. You put him next to Jonathan Babineaux Jon Abraham and Ray Edwards and that ATL defense is much much more stout.

Chicago got desperate a few years back and traded a 2nd for Gaines Adams, who wasn’t lighting the world on fire in Tampa. If the Falcons get desperate we might have a shot of unloading Dorsey for a 2nd especially with this upcoming draft class. The floor would be a 3rd and the Falcons are in a win now mode with a top heavy NFC. Not saying it will happen, but I wouldn’t rule it out.

by Crown Chief on Nov 28, 2011 4:40 PM CST up reply actions

AAAHAA!!! That was the point I forgot to make!

Atlanta is on this “Win Now” tip! They don’t really NEED to draft a project/developing Defensive Tackle. Why would you, when you could trade for Dorsey and plug him in Week 1?

A lot of times he is singled up 1 on 1 with a guard and still can not get passed or even provide a lot of push on passing plays. Yes I know the scheme so don’t try to bring that up, watch the tape.

Cassel and Vrabel were gotten for a 2nd round pick...

2 starters one of which was a QB… We’d be lucky to get a 4th round pick out of Dorsey.

I think we could trade Dorsey for a 3rd or 4th

But we can’t trade him for his potential at 4-3 (even though he dominated that in college), he only played one year at DT in a 4-3 in the NFL.

Barkley hasn't really impressed me

His accuracy isn’t great, which is a huge deal in the NFL. I have to say I’m starting to like Landry Jones quite a bit. He’s supposedly a great leader, has the size, arm strength and accuracy to do well at the NFL level. His mechanics are awkward, but that’s what Zorn is there for.

As for Dorsey, I’d definitely trade him for a 2nd, but I don’t think he’ll fetch that much.

Predictions:
I'm going to stop predicting positive things

by jmcgoblue on Nov 28, 2011 3:45 PM CST reply actions

Atlanta could get desperate...

they don’t have a 1st next year so the only way to get immediate impact is to trade the pick. Defensive tackle is a huge need for them. The Chicago Bears gave up a 2nd for Gaines Adams (may he RIP) after he was struggling in Tampa. I could see the Falcons getting desperate and going for Dorsey.

Second the motion

I agree with everthing you’ve proposed, but…I’ve never been a big fan of USC QB’s…they seem to constantly be overrated. As for item 2…yes, yes, yes! They’ve tried for three years to cram a square peg into a round hole, with only moderate success. Do it while the price tag for Dorsey is stilol a high draft choice.
