Lets leave Pioli alone, he is a GM. He is new to the General Manager position, he is not coaching or playing. Clark Hunt is a new owner; the late Lamar Hunt was frugal to say the least and I believe Clark will slowly develope into a great owner.
Hindsight:
Drafts:
I hated Pioli's first draft. Hated it. Tyson Jackson was a huge reach for the first cog in filling the 3-4 defense. Kansas City had no true nose tackle (320lbs+) to eat up blockers and Pioli wanted a "Richard Seymore" and instead drafted a.. well Tyson Jackson. The same draft BJ Raji was drafted 6 picks later. Our second pick was another 3-4 Defensive end Alex Magee who was traded away later for a fifth round pick. Our next six picks were all poor selections, only three remain on the team with Succup being the best one of the bunch.
Next Two drafts were very exciting. I couldnt complain about any of the first 5 picks in either draft; except this years draft, I would have liked Gabe Carimi over baldwin and in round two go for the giant physical wide reciever in Greg Little from North Carolina. (Absolute Beast, but major maturity issues [I heard he had in the range of 20 parking tickets while at NC} Drafted by Cleveland a few picks after our 2nd round pick Rodney Hudson)
Free-Agency:
I would like more activity in free-agency but when you look at the players Pioli has acquired by standing on the sidelines patiently, you can't argue with that stradegy. We got Sean Smith who was servicable in his stint here, Wiegman (He farts dust but he gets the job done), 2011 we signed a stud FB and very adequate slot/No2 WR Steve Breaston. Kansas City also signed a low-risk high reward OT Jared Gaither, who may or maynot prove to be a valuable addition. We also never got to see Brandon Siler, a young middle-linebacker who was poised to compete with Belcher, add depth or play a huge part in special-teams and goal-line sets. Whiffed on a few - Piscetelli for one, but he is a very athletic specimen, not very good but definetly athletic. Note: Namdi Asamouha was the most coveted free-agent as a 30 something year old corner back. I bet the Eageles will regret that acquisition.
Front Office Grade - B+/B
Foresight 2012 Chiefs Front office remains unchanged.
