Brodie Croyle Gets Another Tryout

With all the quarterback injuries in the past week, I'm not surprised former Kansas City Chiefs QB and current free agent Brodie Croyle is getting a workout. The Houston Texans worked out four quarterbacks, including Croyle, this week.

The Texans, of course, are working without QB Matt Schaub, who suffered what's believed to be a season-ending foot injury.

But Houston's not the only team dealing with quarterback troubles.

The Chiefs, obviously, are without QB Matt Cassel. The Chicago Bears lost QB Jay Cutler for most of the regular season in Sunday's victory over the San Diego Chargers (who have a quarterback playing like he's hurt). QB Michael Vick missed the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday night win over the New York Giants. The Arizona Cardinals have been playing without QB Kevin Kolb. QB Ben Roethlisberger has a finger injury (but won't keep him out).

That's a lot of injuries, even a few playoff-contending teams.

For Croyle, this is his third known tryout with a team since the Chiefs didn't re-sign him. He had a short stint with the Arizona Cardinals and reportedly worked out for the Indianapolis Colts and Miami Dolphins.

Best of Luck Brodie

Question

Under what circumstances would we be interested in bring Brodie back?

I think only if Palko gets injured and would be out for a couple of weeks AND if Matt is out for the rest of the year.

Under absolutely NO circumstance whatsoever.

My earliest Chiefs memories are watching guys named Dawson, Podolak, Taylor, Thomas, Bell, and Buchanan. So, yeah...I'm kind of an old fart.

That's a bit harsh...

What if he came back as a trainer and happens to be best friends with Andrews Luck and convinces him to pull an Eli Manning and refuse to play for any team but the Chiefs?

I’d take him back then

He's probably the best insurance policy out there right now

All the other QB’s are old or washed up. He knows the offense. He has a good arm. He has a hot wife. I’d bring him back and sit him behind Stanzi. He’s probably better than Palko. The issue is with the way our O-Line protects we may get down to needing another QB. If Palko gets hurt or is just plain terrible then you have Stanzi in there and no one else. I would take him over Bulger, Collins, or any of the other riff raff out there right now.

Our right tackle will get him killed.

If I’m Kelli Croyle, I’m keeping him away from KC…deleting Pioli’s texts, etc.

I like Brodie as a human being, but he’s a walking infirmary professionally. It’s not fair to put him on the field when we can’t even protect Cassel from attack. And compared to Brokie, Cassel is made of titanium.

So you can be an ostrich and keep your head in the sand, or you can realize we’ve suffered a dramatic injury here and we can’t just fall down and let everybody kick us in the face."

Cassel is a tough dude though.

Got to give anyone who plays a week after an appendix surgery credit.

Agreed. I really like Cassel...for his toughness, intellect, attitude, athletic ability for a 6'4, 230 pound QB....

But I like him more when he’s on the bench.

Sad, sad sad. But true.

I'd say if he were to replace his entire skeleton with titanium

and then coat his skin in a thin, yet flexible coating of carbon fiber, and then place an electric force field around him.

Under those circumstances, I think we’d be willing to re-sign Mr. Glass.

It really is sad that he was our "quarterback of the future" and he hasn't been hired as a backup anywhere

Carl Peterson had some skill in selecting players, but he was obviously not good at picking out QB talent.

So far

neither is Pioli

Men succeed when they realize that their failures are the preparation for their victories.

by KingChief on Nov 21, 2011 1:28 PM CST up reply actions

He can claim at least part of Brady

but you’re absolutely right. Big difference in sample sizes, though.

Pioli’s had three years and we’ve had Cassel.

Peterson had twenty years and brought us one good year of Joe Montana and a few with Trent Green (Vermeil’s guy).

Given a choice between Cassel and GrBack or Cassel and Bono, I’m really not sure who I’d take.

This ^^^

Letting Gannon go and also having Grbac play in that playoff game, 2 of the worst personnel decisions of the last 20 years.

Good luck to Brodie.

I’d like to see him win a start somewhere before he retires.

We need to stay away from Brodie Croyle like marked down Sushi...

(Hot Wife gets him a Tryout after we exhaust EVERY OTHER OPTION !!! )

by KCChef on Nov 21, 2011 1:29 PM CST reply actions

I know Cassel hasn't been IR'd yet

but it sounds likely. If so, who do we sign? I don’t think Brodie is a real option. Instead, I’d look to swipe a QB off another team’s practice squad and see if they’ve got anything worth keeping. Players who I would put above Brodie as an option at QB include:

Graham Harrell – currently on Green Bay’s PS (behind Rodgers and Matt Flynn)
Dan LeFevour – currently on Indy’s PS (not exactly a ringing endorsement of his potential)
