Patriots Injury Report Is Three Times The Size Of The Chiefs

The New England Patriots will host the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football and they'll do it with three times the number of players on the injury report as the Chiefs. KC has six players listed (which you can read about here) while the Pats have 18 players listed.

A run down of all the Patriots injuries:

Star-divide

Out: LB Dane Fletcher (thumb), LB Brandon Spikes (knee)

Doubtful: CB Devin McCourty (shoulder)

Questionable: CB Kyle Arrington (foot), S Patrick Chung (foot), G Dan Connolly (groin), DE Shaun Ellis (rib), RB Kevin Faulk (knee), RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis (toe), LB Gary Guyton (shoulder), S James Ihedigbo (shoulder), WR Taylor Price (hamstring), WR Matt Slater (shoulder), T Nate Solder (concussion), LB Jeff Tarpinian (illness), T Sebastian Vollmer (back)

Probable: G Brian Waters (knee), WR Wes Welker (knee)

McCourty missing the game is a big one as New England is already banged up in the secondary. I'm not really sure how to view that injury -- on the one hand, McCourty missing the game takes a good player out of the secondary but on the other hand the passing game isn't exactly KC's strength entering this game. We'll see how it goes.

The two probable guys, Waters and Welker, should play and that's big for the Patriots as both players are playing at a high level.

Size doesn't matter...

So I’ve heard.

My earliest Chiefs memories are watching guys named Dawson, Podolak, Taylor, Thomas, Bell, and Buchanan. So, yeah...I'm kind of an old fart.

If he could do it ...

I’d bet Bellichick would list the whole team as questionable.

But our IR is better

Meh

Bill Billichicks injury report means almost as much as Todd Haley’s depth chart.

Yep that's right. Our starting QB wears a hairband.

Tonights game feels like a "Matt Slater" coming out party.

I bet he plays and becomes rich because of his 7-162-2TD evening.

Yep that's right. Our starting QB wears a hairband.

Playing the Chiefs is a cure for what ails you

The Chiefs have been playing so poorly that most teams could consider playing us as a bye week. If weren’t MNF, the Pats might think about fielding their second string – and still likely win.

Honestly though, this might be a good week for Palko to step in as the starter. The Pats don’t have a ferocious pass rush and are questionable in coverage. If Haley and Muir let him air it out to our receivers, Palko could have a big game. If only our defense can stop Brady and Co.

by Chiefs4Life on Nov 21, 2011 10:37 AM CST reply actions

I was trying to argue with someone earlier that we need to air it out...

A couple of guys were basically telling me I was dumb and that the way to beat the Pats was to establish the run with Battle.

Glad I’m not the only one who realizes this conservative play-calling hasn’t been doing us any favors.

by joplin chiefs fan on Nov 21, 2011 10:41 AM CST up reply actions

And I'm betting...

That we’ll be even more conservative with Palko starting.

My earliest Chiefs memories are watching guys named Dawson, Podolak, Taylor, Thomas, Bell, and Buchanan. So, yeah...I'm kind of an old fart.

No way

I am going to be so mad if they start that run up the middle, screen pass behind the line, run up the middle bs! 3 and outs simply cannot be a part of the game. The Patriots may very well put up a large number of points on us….we better be ready to throw the ball down field.

How long should you try? Until.

I agree but I think thats how they will start out.

Heck, thats how they have started out every game this year. If you look they always start out the first Qtr/half with a ton more runs than pass. I seem to recall looking at stats while watching games and noticing that its usually something like like 10 runs to 3 passes. Then it evens out towards the end of the game (usually because we are losing)

Insert witty yet thought provoking phrase here.

by Fozzyboyd on Nov 21, 2011 11:23 AM CST up reply actions

I'm kind of in the middle of the boat with how the game should be called.

The 1st quarter/half I expect there to be quite a bit of a pass rush to attempt to bother Palko’s pass game. Might as well rock them with Battle and McClain in the middle. Weigs and Hudson/Lilja are going to need to pickup double teams on Wilfork and make him non existent. Success in this will wear down the defensive line. Failure means we have run time off the clock that Brady can’t blow us out with…

When the pass rush dissipates open up the passing game(I know good one right). Even if they continue with a heavy pass rush Palko should have a chance to have become comfortable in the pocket. Plus I trust his scrambling ability. Heading into a passing game means we believe our defense will be able to step up against Brady. This is a primetime game, and I fully expect our defense to step it up, and show the world what we got.

Go Chiefs!!!!

Quick slants

I agree that NE will likely bring as much heat early on as they can; I disagree about running Battle directly into their blitzing LBs. Instead, they should give Palko a slant-option offense – send in two plays for quick slants or three step drops and let him audible his choice at the line. Our most talented players on offense are our receivers, get them involved.

by Chiefs4Life on Nov 21, 2011 11:25 AM CST up reply actions

This ^^^

I’d rather have the ball in the hands of Bowe, Baldwin, or Breaston over Battle.

This could be the biggest game of the season for the Chiefs

If this team is not motivated for this game then they will not be the remainder of the season. I expect to see a fired-up Chiefs team tonight, but if not, then they are packing it in for the season.

Palko is a huge question mark. I expect him to play well tonight if for no other reason its a nationally televised game.

Off subject, but Haley needs to quit dropping F bombs on his team. I’m not sure many on the team care too much for this. It is probably the reason so many of our players ignore him.

by chief66 on Nov 21, 2011 10:45 AM CST reply actions

Are they little kids?

I dropped the F bomb all the time, its just part of my language and everyone around me knows that. Which I am sure these grown men are too.

by CWil03 on Nov 21, 2011 10:50 AM CST up reply actions

Of course not, but they are proud men

Who are only trying to help the team win and then get a “fuck you” from the HC. So, many of them don’t try to help and just leave him to his own devices. He is much easier to replace than the other 80 or so personnel on the team.

It may simply come down to who needs who more. It may not be that big a deal, but there seems to be tension on the sidelines. Just an observation. Take it for what it is worth, which probably isn’t much.

by chief66 on Nov 21, 2011 11:04 AM CST up reply actions

I think it stems from

The players thinking his approach isnt working instead of the F bombs. I am sure the players are using plenty of F bombs on their own.

It doesn't matter to the players if the is saying

Fuck the ref. or fuck Rivers. I’m sure they laugh at that, but saying fuck you to your coaches and players who are only trying to help is another thing altogether.

by chief66 on Nov 21, 2011 11:10 AM CST up reply actions

screw that

Proud men?? excuse me but what little boys were on the field the last 2 weeks didn’t look like proud men to me… if we were proud then we would of won, against a winless team and team that ran 55 running plays compared to 8 passes… you ask me they need a lot more F bombs dropped on them till they finally act like men.. they get paid millions of dollars and they don’t respect a grown adult dropping the F bomb?? Fuck that… these pansies have no pride, and i call them pansies cause they havn’t earned the right to be called a man, cause every situation where they have to man-up they get knocked down like little kids, so keep calling the Fing kids F’n losers cause thats how they are playing right now… don’t wanna play for somebody who drops the F Bomb… stupidest thing i have ever heard of… wish i could coach them for a day, cause i would walk up to every single of them in their face and say you F’n SUCK…

Rich Kotite (did I spell that correctly)

did the same thing to his players that you are suggesting Haley do and he lost control of the team and they quit playing hard for him. Philly decided it was time to replace the coach.

by chief66 on Nov 21, 2011 12:56 PM CST up reply actions

It may bother you

But come on, these are grown men we are talking about. They are not going to care one way or another if todd haley uses bad words. And it’s not like he is the only coach to do this in the NFL, have you ever watched a Jets game this year?

by HotRoute on Nov 21, 2011 10:57 AM CST via mobile up reply actions   1 recs

Doesn't bother me at all

If he told me FU, then I would say FU back at him. I’ve witnessed coaches who yell constantly, but never say FU to anyone. That phrase is not well received it the heat of battle, but its his job on the line, not mine.

by chief66 on Nov 21, 2011 11:08 AM CST up reply actions

They aren’t a bunch of little babies (most of the time). The f bomb isn’t going to hurt anyone. now, if we are talking about a public setting like a restaurant or something then I agree with you. Just part of football. If you can’t take the heat.. well you know the rest

I didn't pay attention to the names

There appears to be a tension along the sidelines. It may be nothing, but I don’t feel like HE is able to get the most out of the players due to his temper. He needs the players and coaches around him more than they need him. We’ll see how it plays out.

Because when you’re getting your butt kicked, there should be tension along the sidelines.

just read on AA that carr and flowers are questionable tonight.wont that make tonights game real fun to watch with arenas and dainels at corners and brown covering slot.

Hopefully both. But it’ll be a LONG night if they don’t …

by chiefsman! on Nov 21, 2011 12:45 PM CST via mobile up reply actions

don't play daniels...

get that piece of crap out of KC… all the “hybrid” players are just annoying and do nothing for our team, Daniels was once a CB that hybrided over to SS… he sucked a CB and couldn’t tackle what the hell was Haley thinking he could play and tackle at safety?? seems like to me, Hunt said that’s all the money you get and Haley said ok, and put just whoever back at Safety for a backup plan…. point being get Daniels and the dude who let decker past him the hell out of here cause they can’t play football at all… (most of these players would be better if they wouldn’t worry about their teammates so much and worried about their own job…)

by BlackDoom on Nov 21, 2011 11:51 AM CST reply actions

I could be wrong but...

Wasnt that play Langfords fault? Prett sure he was playing safety. Also Daniela played very well when Flowers was hurt last year.

Carr and Flowers are going to play

but look for Daniels coming in for Flowers or who ever is injured MORE. I can see Palko breaking 250yards tonight. I hope for 3 TDs, 1 to Bowe, Baldwin, and Breaston.

I would like to see Dex get a huge KR return, maybe out to the 50yard line or so.

And if it’s first and goal, I would like to see Battle take a leap over the line for a TD….memories of Priest Holmes….

by Mitul V. Patel on Nov 21, 2011 1:20 PM CST reply actions

I think Battle

Has his own signiture move, The reverse slam dunk….althought i will agree with your, The Priest Holmes leap was just a thing of beauty to watch, ok now i need to go find a you tube video of it.
