Chiefs Enter Patriots Game With Biggest Injury Report Of The Year

The Kansas City Chiefs didn't list LB Demorrio Williams on the their practice report this week but when the final injury reports came out he was labeled as out with a groin injury. He, along with QB Matt Cassel, are the two players the Chiefs have already ruled out for Monday Night Football against the New England Patriots.

Chris updated you on the injury report over the weekend but for those of you that missed it there are four players listed as questionable including CB Brandon Carr (ankle), DE Glenn Dorsey (knee), CB Brandon Flowers (back), S Jon McGraw (shoulder).

Flowers and Carr are the big ones on this list and we don't really have any information on whether they'll play. They've been talking this week as if they will, though.

Dorsey told the KC Star earlier in this week he hoped to play but we won't know that for sure until the inactives come out Monday evening.

McGraw, who we found out a couple weeks ago is an important piece of the puzzle, is also questionable. He was a full participant in practice early in the week and then downgraded to limited so we're not sure where he stands.

Six players on the injury report is the most KC has had all season. Great timing to be banged up, right?

Yeah definitely great timing.

Now we can showcase those 3rd and 4th string guys on a national stage.

Come at us, Brady!

For the conspiracy-theory bunch...

Is this by any chance a sign they’re starting to look more to next season and approach injuries with a “let’s be extra careful not to exacerbate it long-term” attitude?

I love my wife, my kids, and the Chiefs. In that order. Except on game days.

Could be .

Makes sense not to waste matt cassel this year . Lol jk , but i guess well see if they play. With the way things are going .will we even do anything next year ?. Being average seems to be the chiefs favorite thing to do

I look at our team and see plenty of talent

I think our expectations as fans were unrealistic after three things combined to give us a better-than-expected 2010…

1) A historically easy schedule
2) A draft class that caught on more quickly than expected
3) Wonderful luck with injuries.

All of those issues came together and gave us a 10-6 year. I’m guessing when Scott and Todd were planning last year, they figured we’d be an 8-8 team and try to make the jump next year.

Without those first two working in our favor this year, we’ve fallen back down to earth. We’ve also proceeded to sink considerably below it with injuries that were just crushing.

Now, next year, getting those guys back along with Moeaki, and giving our draft this year a little time to develop (Powe, Hudson, Houston, Baldwin), I can see us as making the originally-planned jump to “good team” next year.

But this is all speculation, of course…

I think this is correct.

I also think the Raiders rise will be hampered by the fact that they have no draft picks for the foreseeable future.

Yeah, it's tough to improve

When you’re not getting new players, like, ever.

Is it a first next year for Palmer if they win a playoff game?

Making it two firsts? Anyone know if that’s the stipulation?

I doubt if Haley is taking that particular approach.

Because if he doesn’t win some of these remaining games, or at least be competitive…there might not be a next year for him. At least not here.

My earliest Chiefs memories are watching guys named Dawson, Podolak, Taylor, Thomas, Bell, and Buchanan. So, yeah...I'm kind of an old fart.

by Scott B. on Nov 21, 2011 9:42 AM CST up reply actions

True enough

I’m curious about that. He’s got an automatic excuse in that the guys he planned the team around went down.

That and he kept them playing hard after some tough times. BUT…

The team’s been looking more sloppy, and the play calling has ranged from bad to atrocious. So an argument could be made either way.

I see Haley as sticking around next year. It’s the final year of his contract regardless…

I'll be curious to see what happens, too

Because if we end up winning only 4 or 5 games…then Pioli also has an “automatic excuse” to replace his Head Coach.

But if Haley rallies the team, and at least plays tough down the stretch against some damn good teams? Not so much.

I have a tough time seeing this team do anything with the offense

Unless Palko or Stanzi turn out to be better than expected.

The defense has been bad in spots, sure. But the offense has been dismal…

I'm wondering if we'll even see Stanzi?

Barring injury, of course.

by Scott B. on Nov 21, 2011 9:55 AM CST up reply actions

I think if/when we get blown out the next two weeks

And then if we lose @ Chi and @NYJ, they would have to think about giving Stanzi some playing time the last three weeks of the season.

They may wait until after the GB game and just go against Oak and Den.

by kcsno56 on Nov 21, 2011 10:08 AM CST up reply actions

Two games, though...

Not exactly a lot to get a feel for whether a player has “it”, or not. Especially a Rookie QB.

My earliest Chiefs memories are watching guys named Dawson, Podolak, Taylor, Thomas, Bell, and Buchanan. So, yeah...I'm kind of an old fart.

by Scott B. on Nov 21, 2011 10:11 AM CST up reply actions

He would be the #2 QB right now

If the staff thought he had ‘it.’

Especially as mediocre (and that is me being extremely nice) as Palko is.

by kcsno56 on Nov 21, 2011 10:23 AM CST up reply actions

A mediocre Palko has still gotten many more reps in the Chiefs offense than the rookie who didn’t have a normal off-season to prepare.

"Hater" is a term used by weak-minded people in the face of legitimate criticism.

by JComp11 on Nov 21, 2011 10:50 AM CST up reply actions

He's had 10 weeks...

I agree Palko has been getting the practice reps, but that’s because they think he is more ready to play. There is a reason for this.

I’m a big Stanzi fan, I’m an Iowa fan. I also realize he isn’t ready. That is more about his talent than his ‘off-season to prepare.’ See Newton, Cam and Dalton, Andy.

by kcsno56 on Nov 21, 2011 12:23 PM CST up reply actions

I doubt it, against the Pats on MNF

That may start week 13.

However, the real ‘conspiracy’ could be that they are just playing the Pats game of listing everyone on the injury report to throw them off.

Brady is on the injury report every week, or at least he was for a long time.

by kcsno56 on Nov 21, 2011 9:42 AM CST up reply actions

Crap, every player they've got seems to be on the injury list week in and week out.

If I recal, there’s been drama about that as other teams have complained.

The Patriots have 18 players listed on their injury report

With 13 of them questionable…

I have a feeling most of them are playing.

They could probably actually sit all those guys and still whip our asses.

With Cassel out

Why didnt they just put him on IR already so we could add another body to the active roster.

How long should you try? Until.

They probably haven't found anybody worth adding, yet.

Until they do, no reason to move Cassel to IR. Just as well have him holding a clipboard and helping Palko/Stanzi.

Oh I bet I could be.

Sure I can take the handoff, run into the line and fall over.

But Jones is solid in pass protection.

I’d have a pretty bad time trying to slow down guys like Doom and Von Miller.

Though I’d promise not to break any rookies’ thumbs if they put me on the roster and pay me the league minimum for a year or two.
