Cassel is under pressure
and is already releasing the ball. He didn’t ‘miss’ anything. He had to get rid of it.
"You gonna pull them pistols...or whistle Dixie?"
No kidding
Amazing how people will defend our joke QB

and right into
those Viking lineman outstretched arms. You know thos guys with their hands up between Pope and Cassel. Not to mention the LB standing on the goal line ready to jump the route.
Mcclain is the only option there. It’s amazing the people who over look the obvious.

really?
So you want to throw a light ball into an area where a defender can easily break on the ball? Yes the ignorance is astounding.
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting 'Holy ****... What a Ride!'
Cassel does suck
But it’s still a bad decision to try and make that throw. Pope is breaking for the sideline not the back corner. There may not be any defenders behind him but that doesn’t mean hes going to all of the sudden make a break to the back for a floated ball. He throws a floater to the back and its an incomplete. If I remember that play correctly (and I may have the wrong one in mind) it’s a completion to McClain – the only real option on that play.
I’m sorry it took you until Wed. this week to find pic’s for your weekly slam of Cassel – but this one is weak at best and truthfully not a bad decision by MC.

and this is all based of of your picture
How open was Pope when the throwing motion started? Not half way through it.

If Cassel could anticipate, he'd a known Pope was going to be open
He knows the route Pope is running. It’s not that hard. He panicked because someone got within a few yards of him and he threw it to his checkdown.
How do you know?
Pope could have broke on the original route to try to find a soft spot in the endzone.
Like chiefFANatic says below
He did step up and play well. I just think he missed a TD on this particular play. A TD pass that several other NFL Qb’s 1. see and 2. complete.
I agree that this is a terrible picture.
Cassel almost has the ball out of his hand already and he is about to get hit by the defender.

Regardless if he completed it to Mcclain or not
that drive ended in a field goal, where as if he throws the ball to Pope, it’s either a TD or an incomplete pass and if it is incomplete, then we kick the field goal anyways.. You really don’t think that a “quality” NFL qb could have made that throw?

Yep.
This is just dumb. That pass gets completed in that situation for a TD every week. Go back and watch the replay, that was a sure TD.

I think I understand now
your upset that he didn’t make that throw – a likely interception. would have been a much better pic/animated gif for you to post.

C'mon, man.
There are no defenders anywhere near Pope. There are certainly none over the top waiting to jump the route.
It’s a sure TD.
by bfett81 on Oct 5, 2011 1:44 PM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
Sure TD my ass.
Do you not see the LB on the goal line ready to jump the route or make a stop/incomplete pass? There was gonna be NO TD from Pope on that play. Minnesota had Pope defended. Get over it.

so Mcclain has no chance to score?
with 1 defender to beat? Instead you want Cassel to throw a pass that could be easily jumped by the defender and intercepted on the goal line?
Where did I say the throw couldn’t be made? I said the throw SHOULDN’T be made. A quality QB would know that and not make that pass.

There is 0 chance of that throw being picked.
None whatsoever. Where do you people come up with this crap?
by bfett81 on Oct 5, 2011 1:44 PM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
Yes I'm glad
You know exactly what happened. Since you know so much, what NFL team were you the QB for? Because it’s so easy for you to know what to do. So pipe down and go back to making your Cassel hate posts that no one likes

Look man...
That play goes for a TD every week in the NFL. I’ve seen Cassel throw that pass before for a TD. He just missed the open guy this time, that’s all. Deal with it. This isn’t rocket science. You just don’t want to see what’s in front of you – a bad play by Cassel.
by bfett81 on Oct 5, 2011 1:49 PM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
The same
Can be said for you about not wanting to see what’s in front of you. If this is your only angle and there is clear evidence of a wide open pope then I’m sure any NFL QB would have made the pass. Even if he was though, if you’re being pressured by any ginormous pass rusher it’s hard to focus on every player. Deal with it man we got the W and he was a major part of it, why can’t you just accept it?

waaah
It’s hard for Cassel to find an open man!
Sheesh….GOOD QUARTERBACKS FIND THE OPEN MAN.
FYI, there IS clear evidence of a wide open pope. I encourage you to watch the play again yourself.

that doesn't mean it's going to be a td. the LB pulls the stop out being on the goal and pope isnt getting there for no td

it's not a bad play by cassel.
it’s an unopen pope.

I was screaming when i saw that.
But he did step it up and play well.

It's amazing how easy it is to play QB from the couch.
While watching everything from above and getting to see the whole play develop and not even once think about what the actually QB saw on that play.
I’m not a Cassel supporter by no means, but this seems nit picky and the guy game out and play a decent second half. This seems to be just finding something to bitch about.
If you are going to bitch about the negative play, give him credit for throwing for over 200 yards and a TD in the second half too. Don’t pick and choose.

This is a terrible shot.
How about the picture when Cassel starts his throwing motion, not when the ball is almost out of his hand?
Always a fan, win or lose. Go Chiefs!
Wide open....
except for the linebacker in zone in front of Pope, and the pressure out the ass, and the whole releasing the ball thing?
Come on, there are legit complaints about Cassel, let’s not make them up.

The linebacker has no play on the ball...
If it’s thrown over his head.
Come on people….

This
LeRon McClain (the guy whose job is running over LBs) has one maybe two defenders to beat for 1st down or TD and you want to pass the ball over like 6 guys that could make the play (3 that are obviously waiting for the pass). Blah blah this play works every week. The chance of getting the 1st down and LeRon McClain making 2 piddly yards in 4 downs is way higher than Pope and Cassel connecting on that pass.
I have to agree...
There is plenty to complain about Cassel but this isn’t it….

Really?
It’s a simple pass to make. Lob it to a spot, Pope goes to the spot.
I can’t believe anyone would argue otherwise. Pope is wide, wide open, and the throw has 0 chance of being batted down by anyone who isn’t 12 feet tall.
by bfett81 on Oct 5, 2011 2:02 PM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
Sure
Lob it and Pope goes from “open” to clusterfucked before the ball crosses the 5 yard line. Look at the coverage. There’s a guy on Jake O’Connel that could easily break in time for that pass and two guys staring down the QB waiting for the pass. Leonard Pope isn’t Megatron.
by NotAGoodName on Oct 5, 2011 2:07 PM CDT up reply actions 1 recs
and the defender
won’t bother to also run to that spot. By golly you’re correct how could we not have seen that before.

Also not mentioned here
is the fact that there was still a first down to be had. Playing in this offense, I would think the choice that has been drilled into Matt’s head is take the safer play. McClain has the chance for a completion, a first down and a TD. Pope has coverage, Cassel has coverage and the lob may not be safe if the QB cannot see the endzone in totality because of a defender in his face so the safe play here is McClain where Cassel can see no defender to McClain’s outside shoulder. Difficult to understand? I think not.
"You gonna pull them pistols...or whistle Dixie?"
The Chiefs might have tryouts for QB one day
remember if all else fails….float the ball in the endzone and pray.
Just another weekly attempt for bfett to bash Cassel. Move along.
