What History Tells Us About Chargers Vs. Chiefs

Stay connected for news and updates

The Kansas City Chiefs and San Diego Chargers will face off on Monday Night Football and, if history is any indication, we know a couple of things about this game.

First, the Chargers will win, as they've done in seven of the last eight games between these teams. Second, Matt Cassel will struggle or have, at best, an average game. Those are two things we've learned about the Cassel-led Chiefs against the Chargers.

The history of Cassel vs. the Chargers:

  • Oct. 25, 2009 (Chargers win, 37-7): 10-of-25 for 97 yards, one touchdown, one interception.
  • Nov. 29, 2009 (Chargers win, 43-14): 19-of-31 for 178 yards, one touchdown, one interception.
  • Sept. 13, 2010 (Chiefs win, 21-14): 10-of-22 for 68 yards, one touchdown, no interceptions.
  • Sept. 25, 2011 (Chargers win, 20-17): 17-of-24 for 176 yards, two touchdowns, one interception.

The good thing is that history doesn't matter. Not at all, actually.

Unless we're comparing this game to last year's KC victory on Monday Night Football. Then history matters.
